Hopefully by the next election there will be no electoral college

Whoa!!! You don't want the elections to be by states? Do you think the required amendment could possible pass? The ratification required is by states you know.

There's no way that would pass. Why would a less populous state want to ratify the amendment and reduce their influence over the Presidential election?

I want it to be by states, but for the states to go by who the popular vote winner is.

Whatever! I am going to argue anyway!

Whatever? Do you think the people of Idaho should vote for California's choice even when 70% of them want the other? How will this amendment ever pass in 2/3 of the states?

It won't. But the current system is old and needs to be updated/fixed. This was a system built for our country in its infancy, not for the current state of it. But then again I guess we aren't really a democracy, just a republic in sheep's clothing.

Might be why it is the way it is, heh?

It seems to me the experiment has been a raging success. We're the greatest and most wealthy nation in the history of the planet.

Of course we're not a democracy, and if you ponder why we should or shouldn't be one, you'll agree why we shouldn't be.

In an actual democracy, there is no congress or president. Everything is a referendum, voted by the people. EVERYTHING.

Textbook definitions may label Republics as Democracies. But hey, that's what we do have.

Good point. As it is do they really have any influence anyway...3, 4 votes in the college. There has got to be a better way. Maybe not the idea that I offered, that's been going around, but something has to be better.

Hell who knows California might be it's own country by next election, and then the republicans can win every presidential election from here on out.

I could argue this too, but I wont. I will just point out, the election is just like our representative Republic, State by State, just like our Congress with all of it's votes. Two Senator per State requardless of population, and Representatives for each state by it's population. Seems quite fair.

In Washington or maybe it's just Seattle, the voters passed this Democracy Vouchers thing. It's ridiculous.

What the hell am I supposed to do with my 4 $25 democracy vouchers?

WTF...why the Hell? Part of a property tax increase? Was this one of those things written in randomly in the middle of a bill...weird. I guess it's a way to get people more involved but, it's still strange.

Geez, that is ridiculous. They just schemed up another way for politicians to raid the public treasury, using the population as a disbursement tool.
Yeah it seems like a total waste of money and fraught with abuse potentially. I don't know if this was a voter passed thing or something else, but it is the most puzzling thing I have seen. Like, who thought this was needed?

Yeah, I guess I'm just tired of people being elected to office and not representing the people of the United States, but rather padding their own pockets with money, and serving their own needs, pushing their own agendas. The people just don't matter anymore.

It seems the geopolitical landscape has changed to the point that just this year state's are seeming to question the direction of the country...how the current bunch is going to bring the country together again has me baffled....just don't see it. The climate is sort of what led to Brexit in England.

Actually I am not all that enthusiastic about democracy. It leaves open the possibility for dummies to vote for the wrong thing way too often.
I just haven't come up with a good replacement plan.

Maybe I should run for Seattle office. Get some sweet sweet voucher money. You guys mind if I move the Blazers up here? j/k!

Yep.

Vote Libertarian.

Term limits, long overdue. We need represenative government of the poeple by the real people. Not career politicians that leave to become the tools of the ruling class.

I'd begin by raising the bar for elegibility to run for office...any govt office..there should be no ghosts in the closet before a campaign begins and there should be required blue prints for the job requirements...an actual plan in detail of their agenda before they campaign...scandals should be weeded out before you can apply for the job...we don't need campaigns of covered up lies and denials....seems it's harder to get a liquor license than to run for office
