Toronto Trades: Lowry
Toronto Receives: T. Young
Philly trades: S. Hawes
Philly receives: D. Wright, Mo Williams, M. Leonard and Will Barton
Portland Trades: D. Wright, Mo Williams, M. Leonard and Will Barton
Portland receives: S. Hawes, Kyle Lowry
Why does Toronto do it?
Lowry will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. I don't believe they can keep him and teams that are under cap can offer him some good money on probably a better location. They aren't really winning anything substantial, so they may need to reload. Adding Young would give them a solid player (borderline all-star capable) on a 3 year contract. They would most likely still make the playoffs and build this summer for the next go around.
Why does Philly do it?
Hawes is also a player that won't likely be back, especially since he knows Noel will most likely be back next season. T. Young is extremely unhappy with Philly openly tanking this season and asked to be traded. Adding the young pieces of Leonard and Barton is decent, knowing that they are totally tanking. Mo Williams and D. Wright will at least make the tank job somewhat entertaining for the fans. Most likely Mo will opt out of his contract this summer; which saves them cap space and playing time for their up and coming star PG.
Why does Portland do it?
Hawes and Lowry would be the perfect 1-2 bench players for our squad. They are semi-veteran and young enough to give us a long window of contention. This would help cut down Aldridge, Lopez and Dame's minutes. Toronto and Philly have the "Bird Rights" for Lowry and Hawes, so we can be over cap and still sign them for what they are worth. The reality is we trade players not getting significant burn, with the exception of Mo Williams and replace them with 2 players that are a solid scoring unit. Also, Lowry seems like a better PG than Williams too.
The reason why I think we can keep Hawes and Lowry easier than their current team is we have an owner willing to pay, as long as we are winning. We look to be in the thick of contention, especially if they come to Portland. Win win for all sides.
