Also I am always looking for new and better ways to moderate this community while not trying to play police dog or forum dad (and while making it fun for myself.) Just today I tried for the first time microbanning, which is banning someone from an individual thread. Will it work? Don't know. But it's worth trying.

That's fine, but it seems pretty obvious that with less moderation there will be more personal insults. So either embrace that or figure out a new way to moderate.

I try not to make the personal insult rule arbitrary but it can be difficult. Pretty much if I see a post using the format, "You are a ________." that's a personal insult. Some on here know that and are very creative in their personal insults.

Again, I firmly believe that less moderation is best.

What if your skin is thinner than mine, and what you seem insulting, I dont? How is it an insult if the person being spoken to doesn't view it as such?

There is a lot more to running this forum than reading every fucking post for possible insults and other BS. With Denny taking a break from things I have been busy. That's why I brought in @PtldPlatypus as a mod and asked @Strenuus to step up.

I completely agree that with less moderation there have been more personal insults, that's why I made this thread asking everyone to stop and announced that I am going to be trying something different to reduce them.

Because even if your intended target doesn't see your personal insult others will and they will think it's okay for them to insult others.

If someone's skin is thinner then talk to me or other staff members. We can discuss it and hopefully come to an understanding. You know I have always respectfully replied to your criticism and complaints both publicly and privately.
 
Social media...politics...S2... This is how people "communicate" now. Moderating the old way is probably a futile effort with how rapidly social norms are devolving.

I agree the personal insults have got to stop but some people are getting some very thin skin around here.
Some jokes just are not funny but it also seems to be who is saying the joke.
Some posters seem to have a knack at saying things that are funny. Those things are funny. But you have the exact same statement by another poster and it's inflammatory or even down right rude. Also repairing a tough relationship on here is difficult. Taking a step back and reading what i post before i send it seems to help.
You have a tough job @SlyPokerDog. I wish you the best. I will do my part to help out for i know i have been some of the problem at times. It's all we can do. Keep ourselves in check. Peace!

I don't care if you have time to read through every fucking post or not. I don't care if there are insults or not (I'd prefer there were). What I find annoying is you bitching about the insults when you're the one who's developed this policy of allowing people to bait and troll and do whatever they want so long as they don't name call. And it isn't a new phenomena, this was the case long before Denny took a break.

And now your new plan is to continue to allow baiting and trolling, but your going to micro-ban people from specific threads. Great, good luck. You do realize that's more time consuming than just banning trolls right? Or maybe you just like to bitch.

Thats not fair man. Its easy to define an insult. Sly just did it earlier. Everything else is subject to intepretation based on the mindset of the reader. And this near impossible to police in a consistent and fair manner.

Im with you, I cant stand the baiters and trolls and sometimes fall or stoop to thier level in frustration, but how do you police that? Most of us here have baited at one time or another, then there simply are a few who just bait almsot exclusively.

If you could line out a clear policy on how to define and point out trolls and baiters without tossing in those of us who punch back at them once in a while, id love to hear it and im sure sly would too.

Really i actually did catch that and hoped you would not take offense to saying it that way. My point was more about the way you post. I happen to laugh very loud at some of your posts. But it can be said that you "Don't give a flying fuck" about peoples feelings. That of course is your prerogative.
 
Maybe the answer is to moderate this site Kim Jong Un style (aka fat boy).

Mis-spell fat boy's name you will spend a year doing hard labor in a North Korean prison. (True story)

Insult anyone and get feed to the dogs.

We may need to import some of NK's hunger dogs an a few mean prison guards.
