My point exactly- how many years do we have to go through this? We have been essentially a .500 team since Carter arrived. Blame injuries, refs, the coach, whatever, the point is that this team's ceiling is nowhere near a championship. Not only that, but they don't even play an entertaining brand of basketball. Say what you will about the championship aspriations of the Warriors (or even the Suns), but at least they are great to watch. the worst thing to be in the NBA is mediocre. Not only are Nets mediocre, but they are absolutely brutal to watch- no one runs the break and the offense is a mess- Kidd can no longer play in the half court, Carter doesn't run, and the only player capable of running the pick and roll- arguably the NBA's single best (and simplest) offense- is Marcus Williams. If the Nets simply traded Kidd and switched to a pick and roll system, people would be calling Marcus untouchable. Its no accident that Williams always plays best with Boone- Josh is almost exclusively a pick and roll big. Williams simply looks lost in the motion offense, and understandably so- it doesn't play to any of his strengths.

Yes! I've been calling for more pick-and-roll offense for a while now. Boone is nigh unstoppable in this, and we're already using screens to free up our wings in our current offense so I see this as a marriage of the two.

It makes me wonder what Thorn is thinking. Sure, they're only 1.5 games out, but what's the point of going in as the 7th or 8th seed only to get swept by Detroit or Boston. If I were the Nets, I'd say to hell with this season and rebuild for the future. Might as well tank to get your name thrown into the lottery in this potentially stacked draft class.

This guy has so much pub in the past 5 years, yes including 8th grade, it's scary. But this season at SC, he's been a teammate first and foremost...not to say he wasn't in high school. But listening to all these things, this guy is about himself, he'll pound the rock for 25 seconds than jack up a 30 footer...etc. He hasn't really done that, watched him play at UCLA. The analysts were saying he needs to shoot more. He scored only 2 in the first half, but was instrumental in the last 5 minutes in getting the win. I think he would be a nice fit alongside Marcus in that he can create his offense, and allow Marcus open space to launch jumpers.

And I just have to say that I completely agree with you - this team is sooooo boring to watch, I just can't stand it any more. When Sean gets taken off the court, and Josh isn't involved in plays at all, it pretty much turns into a chuckfest...and makes my eyes bleed.

Pick and roll offense would be nice with Marcus and Josh, but too easy. Idk if Frank would go for doing that as a main option when Marcus is in the game.

And with looking into this team's future, that pick and roll offense could become very much a luxury, if Marcus improves his shooting and Josh improves at the free throw line. I mean, Marcus-to-Josh pick and rolls work great, with their chemistry, and if their skills and comfortability continue to grow...well, that sounds pretty damn good to me.

considering this team just lost 9 in a row with a healthy kidd and carter, i would be surprised if a sans kidd nets didnt finish with at least a bottom 5 record- the Nets are already in the bottom 10 as it is. anywhere in the bottom 5 gives you a chance to land a great pick, and its not even necessary to land the top talent in the draft to turn a franchise's fortunes around. simply getting under the cap and featuring several up and coming players is a proven road to success- look at the blazers, hornets, nuggets, and suns- all franchises that gutted their rosters and rebuilt with the 3rd, 4th,6th, and 9th picks. see where marcus and krstic are at the end of the year and draft accordingly (big or small). throw an OJ Mayo or DeAndre Jordan into the current mix of young guys and jefferson and you have a potentially explosive young team. even the chance to strike paydirt and grab beasly or rose is a compelling reason to pack it in the season. i'd rather suck really bad and have something to look forward to than simply suck, period.

i would do the carter trade if farmar and/or picks were attached, but i think carter is kobetown is unrealistic. i just really hope the nets don't go half way- keeping kidd and trading carter for jermaine o'neal. ideally they would both go, though i think simply trading kidd would be enough to move into high lottery territory- especially if carter could be "shut down" to heal his ankles/knees/whatever.

Derrick Rose has star written all over him. If I had the #1 pick, I'd take him over Beasley and Jordan easily. Part of me, likes this losing streak. I am hoping we go into the lottery and we can miraculously draft him. I'm on board for blowing it up. I think I've come to accept the end of the "Kidd era".

Hey came over from bbb.net cause things have pretty much died over there. The Nets should really stock up on picks in the next draft particularly. Like people have mentioned Derrick Rose is an amazing PG. He will pretty much be a young Jason Kidd. Therefore the Nets need to stock up on picks so that if they aren't in position to get Rose they can trade up and get the job done. Also they should try to pick Sefolosha, I think this guy would mesh well with a running, defense oriented team. Think about this young lineup:

PG- Derrick Rose
SG- Thabo Sefolosha
SF- Richard Jefferson
PF- Sean Williams
C- Josh Boone

This team would defend extremely well and would absolutely destroy teams with it's faster pace. It might take time for this team to grow up but I think it has a lot more potential than our current roster.

I don't know if the Nets would take a PG with the top pick. They do have a pretty good one waiting in the wings with Marcus Williams, a player whom I think has the potential to have his name near the top of the league in assists year in and year out.

As far as Thabo goes, I don't see the Bulls parting ways with him, especially considering they haven't gotten Deng or Gordon signed long term, I'd think he's a definite insurance policy in case one of those two doesn't return.

Really? I just haven't seen that much out of him. He seems to pound the ball too much and outside of the pick and roll he has disappointed me with his passing instincts. His defense leaves much desired and I put a lot of emphasis on that because I am old school and value defense over a lot of other things. Could be the way I play as well b/c I am defense oriented guard when I play bball myself. I am gonna be coming up with a full mock rebuild plan soon, should be good stuff.

See, I've always liked Marcus Williams and thought he was a huge steal for the Nets a couple years back. I think he's got some great vision and pretty solid instincts. While things aren't spectacular at the moment, it should be understandable since he doesn't get all that much burn. I think once his PT goes up, you'll start seeing how good he can be.

Thabo would be a decent player to rebuild with, but that's also contingent on a trade (unless he's a FA after this year?). I'd feel pretty good with Marcus and Rose in the back court at the same time if we can't get something going with the Bulls, although there's really no sign that either will happen.

thats just another reason to tank- find out what we have in marcus. give him 40 odd games to show what he can do, and then draft accordingly. if he shows glimpses of making good on his considerable potential (remember him in preseason last year, before frank wrecked his confidence?) then you might not even need derrick rose. if he shows himself to be a career backup, then go ahead and get on the rose bandwagon. this might be the team's only chance to see what marcus is capable of, and allow the nets to draft the best player available rather than the best point guard on the board- unless of course they are the same thing, in which case it never hurts to have an embarassment of riches on draft night.

Yea I guess it would be good to give him significant PT over the rest of the season to see how good he is. I am just a huge Rose fan, I think he has way more upside than Williams, which really isn't a shot at Williams as it is a testament to Rose's talent.

Marcus is more of the player that's going to look to make his teammates better before he worries about getting his own. Now I'm not saying Derrick Rose isn't going to be that type of player, but I look at Derrick Rose more of a Baron Davis, a guy who will get his teammates involved but also look to get his own a lot more often. So really, while they play the same position, they play opposite styles, so it's really not a fair comparison.
