...on the court that is.

Dennis Rodman!

The premier undersized bigman with amazing athleticism. If Sean can learn to defend and REBOUND like Rodman he will have a nice career. Doesn't even need to be as good because he has a slightly better offensive game.

He has the tools to do it.

Sean can start by wearing shorter shorts. lol. Rodman is a genius at rebounding and disrupting the flow of the game. Would be awesome if SWat can become more like Rodman. However, I don't think the league tolerates that style of play anymore.

I don't think anyone will ever be like Rodman. I always thought he was one of the most underrated players in the league, he was a game changer with his rebounding and his defensive skills.

at 6'7" he had rebounding averages of 11.2, 12.5, 14.3, 14.9, 15, 16.1, 16.8, 17.3, 18.3, and 18.7. 18.7 BOARDS A GAME?! THAT'S NUTS...

If he could get 10 RPG I'd be freaking happy. If he turned into Rodman, I'd be scared.

I wouldn't say he has a better offensive game than Rodman. Rodman was a pretty good scorer in college and he could have been in the NBA too, he just didn't want to score for some reason.

A better offensive Rodman would be ideal, but I am not expecting him to avg more then 7 rbs. We have too many bigs that can or need to rebound. I do want to see him avg2 blks agame.

well, according a recent Phil Jackson statement, the best player he's ever coached was Rodman.
hmm..

Rodman was an absolute warrior on the court. He would hustle for every loose ball, and rebound like there's no tomorrow. He also Phil Jackson's favorite player to coach, so that says a lot.

I would love for Sean Williams to be like Rodman, just without the off-court theatrics. The thing is, you can't teach how to be Rodman. He's got to have the passion to hustle, defend, and rebound on every play.

That's the part he needs to emulate. It may not necessarily be teachable, but the switch can go on.

He has the athleticism and he's a smart guy.

At one point, I thought Reggie Evans could be the next Dennis Rodman. Nope.

I don't think I'd want Sean to turn out like him, either. I'd rather have him turn out to be like Kevin Garnett, except not a pussy.

Asking for the 17th pick in the draft who barely played ball prior to college to turn out like KG is a bit of a stretch. I would love to see it happen, but I'm not holding my breath. He can't even dominate summer league.

Wow...for some reason when i saw the thread title i immediately thought Dennis Rodman

i would pay DR to work with SWat and twin to spend time with Brook (next year that is)

KG's a pussy pegs??

To emulate Rodman?? you've got to be kidding me! Sean is atrocious rebounder. Atrocious...

I personally want Sean to emulate Marcus Camby. They're similar players (above average defensively, decent offensively, can finish around the basket). If he puts up Camby stats when he was in his prime eventually, I'd love life and this Sean was a complete steal. As long as he doesn't sneeze to hard and sit out a month like Camby did for a few years then I'm fine. That and Sean needs to play with attitude. He looks like he never really cares. I need to see an angry streak go through this kid sometimes. If he learns that, he can be pretty intimidating.

So you want Sean to be nothing more than a weakside shot blocker that doesn't rotate, a player that pushes teammates out of the way to grab rebounds, a player that bitches and moans if he doesn't get enough shot attempts and a player that is almost worthless on back to back games?

Sean needs to look to Chandler and his constant growth he's shown his entire career.

I don't see Sean ever becoming a strong 1-on-1 defender, and he really is already a solid weakside shot blocker. His defense is very similar to Marcus's now. He's never gonna be like Tyson and he doesn't show enough killer instinct to be Dennis Rodman. You know how difficult it is to team defense the way those 2 play, especially when you got a guy who's motivation is already being questioned at times?

Other than the attitude problems Marcus had WHEN HE WAS YOUNGER, yes I want him to be exactly like Marcus Camby. Honestly, Nene was the ONLY one who ever complained about his rebounding...and come on you're calling him out for NENE HILARIO complaining? That overpaid hunk of junk. You're cutting down a guy who is consistently one of the top defenders in the league for a situation that occurred only a few times and was like 3 years ago.

If Sean can at some point in his career average 10-15ppg, 7-12rebs a game, 2-3 blocks a game, and can be one of the above average defensive big man in the league, that is translated into someone similar to Marcus Camby, therefore I'd be absolutely stoked.

Again, I'm talking STATS WISE and his defensive presence. You're brining up attitude issues which honestly have NO BEARING in this discussion.

No, Melo also complains about. Quit regularly too since almost every game he was pushed out of the way by Camby. If you listened to the Altitude feed, you could hear Melo bitch at him.

Camby is not a top defender. Watched him play and other blocks he contributes noting else on defense. His DPOY award was a true joke.

Nope, it happens consistently.

No, I'm bringing up the fact that Camby really isn't a good defender.

Ok so you're saying that a panel of over 100 people all decided to give an award to a guy who doesn't play defense whatsoever and you're the only guy who Marcus Camby fooled? Just making sure I got that straight.

It's also kind of amusing that as much as Carmelo apparently dislikes him, he also mentioned how disappointed he was in that they let the Defensive Player of the Year go for basically nothing. So as much as he apparently dislikes him and his style, he still didn't want him gone. I wonder why that is? Maybe because, even if you believe Camby doesn't play defense, Melo also knows, nobody else does which will come to focus this season. So is this like Kobe and Shaq then, at least according to your take? Melo can't get along with Camby yet he's already realized he needs him or a guy like him to succeed in this league?

Yes, they gave it a guy with an unearned defensive reputation who puts up pretty stats. The award is meaningless

and you're the only guy who Marcus Camby fooled? Just making sure I got that straight.

No, the vast majority of informed Nuggets fans are well aware of what Camby is, which is a vastly overrated defender who only blocks shots

It's also kind of amusing that as much as Carmelo apparently dislikes him,

Where did I say Melo dislikes him? I said he bitches at Marcus for pushing him out of the way on rebound attempts.

he also mentioned how disappointed he was in that they let the Defensive Player of the Year go for basically nothing. So as much as he apparently dislikes him and his style, he still didn't want him gone. I wonder why that is?

Where did I say anything about Melo wanting him gone? Melo has had him as a teammate for his entire career. Besides that, like most active players, Melo would be a horrible GM at the moment as they look at the little picture instead of the big picture.

Maybe because, even if you believe Camby doesn't play defense, Melo also knows, nobody else does which will come to focus this season.

Quite the contrary, Melo knows that both Kenyon and Nene are better defenders and that he himself needs to play more defense.

So is this like Kobe and Shaq then, at least according to your take? Melo can't get along with Camby yet he's already realized he needs him or a guy like him to succeed in this league?

Your reading comprehension needs a lot of work. Nothing in my words comes close to the what you have said.

Since everyone goes and compares Yi's stats to Dirk's stats...

Sean: 5.6 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 1.5 bpg, 54% fg, 17:30 mpg

Tyson: 6.1 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.3 bpg, 50% fg, 19:36 mpg

Not bad

Camby as DPOY was a joke. I don't think the whole pushing for rebounds issue is as big as cpaw thinks, but Camby is a bad post defender, too stupid to play team defense well and generally makes bonehead plays. He chases weak side blocks just like Sean does right now, which means he leaves his feet often, leaves his man open and instead of rotating gambles on getting blocks.
Chances are, for every block Camby has he also has 3 plays in which the defense broke down because of him.

As for Melo saying he's sad to see Camby go, what do you expect him to say? "I'm glad he's gone. I hated him"? It's business. Even if you dislike someone you have to be able to work with them and be professional.

That's what i'm sayin'! Nice work pegs.

I'm not saying Sean is the next Tyson because he simply doesn't have the height but if he follows the same path Chandler has where he continually works on his strengths and his weaknesses he could be a nice force for us around the basket on both ends.
