Jordan Spieth opens with even-par 72 at the Players Championship

Jordan Spieth, Phil Mickelson miss cut at the Players Championship

Jason Day aiming to close out wire-to-wire win at Players Championship
Earlier this week, before Jason Day raced out to an impressive Players Championship lead on an increasingly severe TPC Sawgrass course, he recalled his first serious opportunity to claim a professional title in the United States.
It was April Fools' Day in 2007 and he was competing in the final pairing at a tournament called the Livermore Valley Wine Country Championship at Wente Vineyards on the Nationwide Tour. All of 19 years old and filled with raw talent and palpable potential, Day lacked the experience to close out the victory.
Jason Day was nervous Sunday morning. He told his wife Ellie he didn't think he'd ever been so uneasy prior to teeing off in any tournament of his career.
This wasn't just any tournament, either. It was THE PLAYERS Championship, the PGA TOUR's showcase event, and the distinctive Waterford crystal obelisk to be hoisted when the final putt dropped was one he dearly wanted to add to his growing trophy collection.
Day was well on his way to winning, too. Up by four entering the final round at TPC Sawgrass, the world No. 1 was trying to successfully convert a 54-hole lead into victory for the sixth time in his career, and fifth straight.
