Sorting machines continue to be dismantled. They are thousands of times faster than hand sorting and with staff shortages and ban in overtime there are no hands to sort. In Los Angeles a large post office is inundated with rodents as food rots in packages. A poultry farm received a shipment of chicks, all dead.

Trump's postmaster general has also decreed post office employees may no longer co-sign ballots. Some states require a witness signature. If there is no other adult citizen in a household, voter could bring ballot to post office, sign there, and clerk sign as witness. This is now prohibited.

If 300 million Americans are hurt so that Trump can block people from voting, hey, good deal from world's best deal maker.

Also reported DeJoy's family business has had numerous lawsuits filed against it for sexual harassment, sexual assault, race discrimination, wage theft, and union busting. A true Trumper.

Yeah, Trump stole the election again. Congrats to him.

He didn't steal the election in 2016. He does seem to be trying his best to do so this time, though, with these post office actions. Fortunately, it's happening early enough that people can try to avoid the post office issues by manually bringing in their ballots to early voting drop-offs.

So THE HCP is STILL confused. Why are these sorting machines being dismantled? Who is telling them to do this and why now? Why are the mailboxes being taken away? I'm so lost!

The postmaster general, who's a Trump donor, ally and appointee, is telling them to do these things. He's doing it because Trump has said that he doesn't want widespread mail-in balloting, so his postmaster general is sabotaging the post office to slow down mail and make mail-in balloting harder and, in some cases, impossible.

You know how every year here in Oregon they will say, "if you're sending your vote in by mail, today is the last day you can do it so it will arrive at the county in time to count?"

That's what they're trying to destroy nationwide. People will mail in their votes but they won't arrive in time to the elections office for them to be counted.

This is fucking crazy!!!! And Trump supporters are cool with this?

GOP is trying to implement vote blocking

I voted from overseas several times...always mail in ballots...this will hurt the votes from service members and diplomats working around the globe....there are millions of Americans who have no choice but mail in ballots...

Why would anybody think this is a good thing? I'm so unbelievably disappointed in people. On the bright side, this past 4 years has actually helped me raise my kids. I have daily examples to teach my kids of what NOT to do and how NOT to treat people.

I have said it before and I will say it again - the best thing the Trump administration has done is helped us all to identify the weak portions of power within the federal government. It is ironic that the people that elected him are the ones that rail against federal government power.

The big question is - has America learned from that failed experiment or are we a nation of idiots the rest of the world has come to see us as, given this administration's performance.

Up until the past 4.5 months, I swore Trump was going to win again. I believe all of this turmoil has awoken many. Those that might have been on the fence, I'm truly hoping have had their eyes open to the fact that is can indeed get worse. And that's scary enough to vote for ANYBODY but that moron again.

Yes they are. As long as it doesn't effect their guy. If it was a Democratic President doing this, they would be going ape shit about it, but, since it is their guy, it is OK.

He might still win. Very probable with what he has had done to the USPS. It wouldnt surprise me if Blue states suddenly go red because of this.

The Trump vote will be fueled this election by voters who are terrified of losing all their white privilege ...I just hope there aren't that many Karen's out there this time

I don't understand it either. I'm guessing there are a lot more old Trump voters than Biden voters. Making it easier for them to vote during a pandemic seems like common sense.

Actually I take that back. I do understand it. Trump thinks the path to victory is to invalidate the election.

It's hard to gauge because of echo chambers, and bias' and all that goes on, but I think the 'civil unrest' and protesting that continues to happen is a huge Trump campaign ad. There is also a ton of studies and evidence that show, prolonged protesting has been very good for 'republicans' come election time. They had so much good momentum, but I think it's past diminishing returns to negative returns at this point.

It'll be interesting, because obviously, 'law and order' coming from someone who is so divisive and likes to break the law is kinda funny...
Part of the media is working overtime to say how bad the protests are and other parts of the media are working overtime to say how peaceful they are.

The left's playbook is how crappy Trump is and how divisive he is. The right's playbook is look at all these major cities and the problems they're having if you let them take over the whole country will look like that.
Not agreeing or disagreeing with that stuff, but it's going to be interesting how things progress the next couple of months.

It's just possible that it's not a part of some massive nefarious scheme by the Trump Administration:

"Postal Service officials and industry insiders say the removals were part of a long-range plan, one that reflects Americans’ diminishing use for letters and growing reliance on package delivery."

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2020/08/20/postal-service-mail-sorters-removals/

But, then again, it could be. ;)

It's not an either/or. That article seems to suggest that some amount of decommissioning happens every year, but the volume of sorters decommissioned this year is much larger. I don't doubt that the post office has gradually stepped down infrastructure with falling rates of usage--but the fact that suddenly a much larger amount of infrastructure was removed, just ahead of an election that's expected to have record mail-in balloting, under a President who's explicitly stated he's an enemy of mail-in balloting and also said he blocked funding to the post office to prevent mail-in balloting, seems to point to a purpose beyond a long-range, politically neutral plan.

When packages pile up and rot, it's not reduced demand.

As I read it, the equipment being removed is for letters, not packages. The plan is to remove unnecessary sorting equipment for letters (which is a falling percentage of mail) so that they can increase handling equipment for packages (which is an increasing percentage of mail). Doing it during an election year when there is likely to be an increased need for letter sorting is massively stupid, politically nefarious, or both. I'm thinking option C at this point because that fits Trump's usual mode of operation.

Trump stole the 2016 election by conspiring with the Russians. First Mueller says so and then the Republican controlled Senate committee says so. As someone in here so eloquently put it, case closed.

Almost 60% of the revenue comes from the letters as of 2018.

I don't disagree with you that Trump broke the law to collude with the Russians, I just don't think that's what won him the election.

There were multiple reasons why he squeaked by. The Russia collusion was just one of them. They all added up to an Electoral College victory. Any one of the multiple reasons missing would have meant a Trump loss.
