Full statement on attorney general firing

President Trump, at 9:16 p.m. Monday, announced the firing of the acting attorney general who had defied him on his migrant-travel ban, saying she "has betrayed the Department of Justice."

Sally Yates, an Obama holdover, had said she was refusing to enforce his executive order restricting migrant travel.

Here is the text, emailed to reporters:

Statement on the Appointment of Dana Boente as Acting Attorney General

The acting Attorney General, Sally Yates, has betrayed the Department of Justice by refusing to enforce a legal order designed to protect the citizens of the United States. This order was approved as to form and legality by the Department of Justice Office of Legal Counsel.

Ms. Yates is an Obama Administration appointee who is weak on borders and very weak on illegal immigration.

It is time to get serious about protecting our country. Calling for tougher vetting for individuals travelling from seven dangerous places is not extreme. It is reasonable and necessary to protect our country.

Tonight, President Trump relieved Ms. Yates of her duties and subsequently named Dana Boente, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, to serve as Acting Attorney General until Senator Jeff Sessions is finally confirmed by the Senate, where he is being wrongly held up by Democrat senators for strictly political reasons.

"I am honored to serve President Trump in this role until Senator Sessions is confirmed. I will defend and enforce the laws of our country to ensure that our people and our nation are protected," said Dana Boente, Acting Attorney General.

She knew she was going to get fired no matter what she did. She was an Obama appointee. At least she had fun on the way out.

In all my posts, I never used that word. I used snowflake once.

Stay classy, dog.

This is like Dame left alone on the court with management expecting him to score 97 points for a win. Trump should have kept experienced people to assist his corporate cohort

This is 3 or 4 people who "quit."

They were scandal ridden and should not have had the jobs in the first place.

This is actually a plus for the country.

All you cheering - if there is a natural disaster, or coup, or terrorist attack in some foreign country, the people whose job it was to get US citizens safely out are gone. No one is carrying out routine treaty monitoring. If you are abroad and lose your passport there is no one issuing new ones. That make you secure?

One official was en route to Rome for a meeting to discuss monitoring international arms control agreements and was called back. The US was not represented at the meeting.

They are not draining the swamp, they are draining the competents and replacing them with swamp creatures from post-apocalypse mutations.

Seriously, makes no sense how this is considered good. If you needed your appendix out, would you prefer it be done by someone who has never taken out an appendix, not even an MD? Would you feel even better if the unqualified surgeon fired all the experienced nurses, lab techs, anesthesiologists?

Trump is a terrible manager. Good managers do not throw the company into turmoil the first week, they put in their own team but try to keep longterm skilled employees, they do not label some people lesser, they do not issue idiotic and meaningless decrees (eliminate two regulations for every new one? WTF? Just a stupid fantasy of an ignoramus).

This is just untrue.

They are draining the swamp.

These officials are part of the regime that bombed 7 countries without congressional authority in 5 of them. The whole middle east is in flames, and ISIS arose, on their watch.

They are also scandal ridden. The leaked Clinton emails show Kennedy tried to coerce the FBI in a quid pro quo deal that is highly unethical, if not against government rules.

Buh bye. Don't let the door hit you in the fanny on your way out.
