They have to have a combination of assets that NY would want AND be able to take shitty contracts from Houston. There's a reason why it hasn't happened yet. Nobody wants Ryan Anderson.

Woj was on Mike and Mike this morning and said (paraphrasing) the team to watch here is Portland. The league has become all about recruiting recently, and he's been told that Dame and CJ have made real progress with peaking Melo's interest in playing with them in Portland. He said that Portland, with Melo, is as good as any team in the west outside of GSW. Wish I could find a video to better get the quote down, but that's the gist of it. He only mentioned Houston and Portland as teams that have a shot

No. Anyone could have said that over the past month and been equally correct. Portland could acquire Melo, except for the small stumbling block of Anthony not being willing to waive his NTC for Portland.

Honestly, getting fans to believe something they already want to believe is shooting fish in a barrel. I'm surprised more people don't pretend to be insiders and every so often say they're hearing that Portland could do something if not for the obvious reasons why they can't.

Scott Perry tried to get Melo back in NY, but Melo doesn't have interest. Team to watch is POR-- it's become a recruiting league. James Harden played a role in getting CP3 to HOU, similarly CJ and Dame have made progress piquing Melo's interest in POR. If POR can put together a package that can intrigue NY, this is a possibility. CJ is in NY now was on video yesterday playing pickup with Melo and these two have made legit in-roads on convincing Melo of POR as a possible destination. That team with Melo/CJ/Dame/and Nurk is as good as any team in the west outside of GS. Portland is becoming a team at the top of his list outside of HOU. Melo's contract would cost in nearly $100 mil in luxury tax for two years and Paul Allen is willing to pay that. But that contract isn't for everyone in this league."

We were only joking a month back but this melodrama (see what I did there?!?) really is going to go on for another month, isn't it? This dude is going to wait until the last minute for Houston and then waive his NTC right before training camp.
 
just listened to the Woj bit. Sounding like Portland is becoming more and more real. All CJ really has to do now is send Melo a highlight mix of Nurkic and it'll be a done deal imo.
