Have always liked Melo. Thought of him playing with our boys gets me VERY excited for the season. We never make big moves it seems, this would be one for sure.

So, Hoodie Melo moves your needle?

I think bringing Melo in, at worst, cleans up our salary issues as long as we keep our big 3+ Collins... Question is what would your rotation be?

Assuming Harkless/Vonleh/Pick is sent as compensation:

Lillard - CJ - Melo - Swanigan - Nurkic (all five guys can score reasonably from their spots)
Turner - Morrow - Aminu - Collins/Davis - Leonard

Napier/Goodwin/Layman handing out towels.

Depends who Portland keeps.
If Portland keeps Aminu it's real nice.

Lillard/CJ/Napier
CJ/Turner/Morrow
Aminu/Melo/Turner
Melo/Aminu/Swanigan
Nurk/Collins

Yes, it's almost impossible to construct a defense to stop a guy holding the ball for the entire shot clock
Like i said. I can understand why some don't want him. But standing holding the ball ain't one of the reasons. The game is about putting the ball in the hole. That team scores the ball. You can come up with all the smart quips you want but you cannot deny that Dame and CJ both want this guy. There is a reason for that. They know teams would have to defend them. This addition makes it easier for them to score and that makes teams have to work hard on defense. Guess what? That makes playing defense a bit easier also. Teams working harder to defend have to make it up on the offensive end. They also don't get to run as much when they are starting from the baseline inbounding the ball. This is basketball 101. Having another solid scoring threat on the floor helps in lots of ways.

At this point, Portland can give up literally any combination of pieces outside of Dame/CJ/Nurk and this would be the biggest win for the franchise since I-don't-know-when. We're talking about Aminu or Davis or Collins (though I agree with whoever said that would really hurt) or whoever gets 8 touches a night for Carmelo Anthony just past his prime?

BTW, I think Melo playing the Aminu PF role (in the LMA/Dirk style?) is more likely than SF. So while I'd like to keep Aminu around, I'll let Stotts figure it out if he goes with Hark.

OregonLive now picking up the story.

They also reference the tweet from Jason McIntyre. No new info.

Interesting poll at the end of the article. Only 61% voted they would welcome the trade. How can they have a vote to welcome the trade if we don't know what's going out?

whether this rumor is true or not, this guy Jason McIntyre surely got attention on him
if only some reliable NBA journalist confirmed this... hopefully someone will

Would that actually happen in Portland? In case you haven't heard, Nate McMillan s no longer our coach. Our current coach runs a flow offense with lots of ball movement, and not an all ISO all the time offense.

I know that's how Melo played in NY, but it's not how he played in DEN or how he's played with Team USA.

So you think it's a better chance he reverts back in time? It would be nice, but not likely

I wonder if there's a deadline.

Part of me hopes he goes to the Rockets for a perceived worse deal. The venom this forum would have would be epic.

I just think he is a professional. He is going to play team ball. He has shown he does this in the right place. It becomes a coaching thing. Then you also have Damian Lillard. Do you think Dame is going to let this guy sit with the ball? Team USA was not going to let that happen and neither will Dame Stotts or CJ.

If Carmelo were to come to Portland, keeping the ball moving with Dame and CJ and Nurk would make his life and his job and his game a LOT easier than carrying the load, and the ball, every play. I'd think he should be happy about that.
