Sorry, gonna call bullshit in this one. It's called negotiating. Neil was playing DEN and PHI against each other to get the best deal he could. If he had valued Okafor over Nurkic, we'd have Okafor on our team right now.

BNM

See my post above. Remember to press like. Lol.

That never happened tho. There was never an acceptance of any deal. Here's the thing:

Neil doesn't leak anything. Right? Riiiight..

Not one thing.

Neil FIRES MFs over leaks.... Ask Kim.

When you hear about a NO deal, it's right after it happened not anytime before. So he leaks info about the Okafor "deal" in an effort to squeeze the shit out of Denver. He succeeds at squeezing a first out of Denver.

MFs should just give credit where it's due.

No mention of Portland...

Mentioned Cleveland though which I thought they were out of it. Personally I hope Cleveland gets back in this bih and we end up with Love instead of Anderson. Hark, Vonleh, Ed and a 2nd to NY in exchange for Love would be a whole lot better than any return NY should get when Anderson is the main piece Hou is sending out.

Think about all the power forwards that are going to dominate us because Anderson can't play D... I'd rather start Vonleh.
What percentage of the time do you suppose Noah Vonleh outscored the opposing PF?

:biglaugh:

Clearly I gave Neil some credit.

And I didn't know you had a direct line to Neil. You seem to know how everything went down. I'm going off what was reported. It could be wrong.

You're going off what you think may have happened.

According to Windhorst, Portland and Philly had a conference call scheduled with the league to announce a trade involving Jahlil Okafor.

And Denver gave in and included their pick in our Nurkic trade after hearing how close we were to getting Jah.

The New York Knicks are pausing trade talks centered on Carmelo Anthony and want to pursue a conversation with the 10-time NBA All-Star about possibly reincorporating him into the organization, league sources told ESPN.

After talking with the Houston Rockets and Cleveland Cavaliers for nearly a month to help engineer deals for Anthony, the Knicks told both teams that they're stepping back from trade talks for a short time, league sources said.

It is believed the timing of that communication with Houston and Cleveland coincided with the clandestine negotiations that were ongoing with Sacramento and Perry, the Kings VP of Basketball Operations.

The Knicks have reached an agreement in principle on a deal to make Perry the team's new GM, but consummation of the hiring is pending the Knicks and Kings arriving at terms on compensation, league sources said.

The Knicks want Anthony to meet with the new front office and coach Jeff Hornacek in the near future, but it's unlikely that Anthony will respond with eagerness about a plan to reincorporate himself into a franchise that has been pushing him -- publicly and privately -- to accept a trade out of New York, league sources said.

Anthony has been fully focused on getting a deal done, especially with advanced talks that surrounded Houston. The Rockets were working on a four-team trade with the Knicks that had gained traction throughout the week, league sources said.

There was no indication that he was going to walk. He was adamant on his love for Portland even as he got traded.

I don't recall Nic ever professing his undying love to the city of Portland or the Trail Blazers organization. If he did, please provide a quote or a link.

What I do recall is that he was perfectly willing to leave us for MN and was much happier playing in CHO than POR:

"MINNEAPOLIS -- Restricted free agent Nicolas Batum has agreed to terms on an offer sheet with the Timberwolves and is hoping the Portland Trail Blazers either do not match the offer or execute a sign-and-trade to get him to Minnesota, Batum's agent told The Associated Press on Thursday night."

"In a season-closing interview with the Charlotte Observer, Batum told writer Rick Bonnell, "It was a pretty cool year. First time I got to play like I want to in eight years in the NBA."

When people are entertaining the idea of having Anderson on the team, yeah it's getting pretty fucking desperate...

I'd be thrilled to have Ryan Anderson on the team...off the bench at $10M per year.

I was speaking about others who weren't giving Neil his credit.

With regard to knowing what NO's going to do, nobody knows.

Why don't they know?

They don't know because NO doesn't leak anything. So when you got information that was leaked, logic dictates that that info is probably faulty.

NY - desperate to get rid of 'Melo....don't want Anderson or Leonard.
HOU - really wants 'Melo....don't want Anderson or Leonard.
POR - desperate to get out of some bad contracts...don't want Anderson or Leonard.
Yet they keep talking.

With regard to knowing what NO's going to do, nobody knows.

Right, all we know is what he DID and what he DID was get Nurkic and a 1st round pick for an expiring Plumlee.

Credit where credit is due.

The Olshey haters love to bash him for his questionable free agent targets (Hibbert, Hawes, Parsons, etc.) with usually nothing more than heresay to back up their claims, but when it comes to what he actually has done, they refuse to give him credit. They say we dodged a bullet when one of his supposed signings falls through, and then claim he got lucky when he does work a favorable trade. He may not be the best GM in the league, but apparently he's the luckiest.

These things don't make him sound like a guy that badly wanted to leave.

He wouldn't have known what playing in Charlotte was like if we kept him.

On playing in Portland:

NB: ...that place is special. Portland is special. I loved it. I loved it.

ZL: You hear sometimes a lot of players don’t wanna play there because it’s out of the way, it’s, you know…

NB: To be honest, when I first got here, I was like, why am I here? The first time I got there, I was like, wow, I mean… special. I loved it.

NBPA: A few years into your time in Portland, you had a spike in assists from 1.4 to 4.9 per game over two seasons. What was key behind your big increase?

NB: Terry Stotts was the key. He was the first to really allow me to be a playmaker. When I signed my first deal, I said, “Coach, I think I can be a 15, 5 and 5 guy.” He said, “I know you can be, so I’m going to try to do everything to make you an all-around player.” And he let me be what I wanted to be. He was the first one to do that.

So, he's smart enough not to trash a place after he leaves. But he definitely wanted to go to MIN and has said playing in CHO was the first time in 8 years he got to play the way he wanted to play - meaning he NEVER got to play the way he wanted to in POR, not even under Terry Stotts.

"Ndiaye said Batum has great respect for the Blazers and their fans but believes playing for Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman and alongside point guard Ricky Rubio and forward Kevin Love is the best situation for him."

Like fuck you Dame. Fuck you Wes.

This is probably the main reason we traded him.

Oh please. The second quote of my last post had him stating stotts was the first guy to let him play how he wanted :biglaugh:

Nicolas Batum 'happy' in Portland with Trail Blazers three years after his flirtation with Minnesota

"I've thought about it, but the thing is, we will never know,'' Batum said. "Maybe it would have worked out well and (Minnesota) would have been a good team. Maybe not. You just never know. The thing is, I'm glad (Portland) matched because we are doing good since we matched.''

Batum says the feeling fades as the years go on, but he remembers the first time Portland visited Minnesota in the 2012-2013 season and he went against Timberwolves players he once envisioned playing alongside.

"It was weird,'' Batum recalled. "It felt like it was my former team.''

Batum said his desire to leave had nothing to do with Portland the city, or its fans, but rather the direction of the franchise.

"When I signed with Minnesota, Portland had three guys under contract,'' Batum said. "We had drafted Dame, but I didn't know him. Knew he was from a small school, but didn't know him. And didn't know the system we would play because hadn't signed Terry (Stotts) yet ... and we just had a bad season.''

Minnesota courted him heavily, and Batum said he became sold after spending several days with Adelman.

"He was the right coach for me, that was the main reason - coach Adelman,'' Batum said. "But now, I don't regret it, because the way we play, and the direction of the franchise. I'm good with it. I'm good now.''
