Danny Ainge is a weird dude, but I think the only reason why George isn't a Celtic is because KP is a moron.
Yah, when KP took over for Bird, he skipped the first 3 bases and home plate with the people of Indiana, and slid right into "5th base" (butt fucking).

These two were great!
This one sucked ass. Screw Jason Quack....

Hey if Portland does land Melo. All Portland only has to hope two things happen.
Melo remembers what team he's playing for, and doesn't revert to his 08-09 wcf style of play.
And
KD returns to his OKC form.
Then Portland has a chance to beat GSW in a 7 game series.

This is old news folks, Blazers have been trying to get Melo for over a month. No one believed, but now its finally out there. (a "real possibility")

No, shut the thread down, MM says its a non-story
It's just a summer story. I was told they don't matter.

I agree AD ain't coming here, but I feel like the past 3-4 big players moved, anytime it would be mentioned, someone would say yeah but Boston... and yet Boston doesn't have cousins. Or butler. Or George. Likely not going to add Carmelo. Didn't get (or likely try) for paul. Needed rebounding and passing out of a big, but didn't make a play for nurkic. I'll believe their assets trump the rest of the league when they're actually offered up in trade.

Well, not getting Paul George may not have really been Ainge's fault. From the sound of things KP wasn't going to let him go to any Eastern Conference team where he might actually re-sign, no matter how good the offer.

But, I think Ainge's main target all along for this summer was Gordon Hayward. Yes, George and Butler are better players, but they would have cost significant assets. Hayward gives them an all star level SF and it cost them nothing but cap space.

And, I think this was all part of Ainge's long game - to get Hayward this summer while preserving all of his valuable assets. Now, he has the assets to go after Anthony Davis, and if that fails he still has all of those top draft picks to add to his two top 3 picks in the last two drafts (Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum). Either way BOS is going to just keep getting better. I mean, if your fall back plan is 4 top 5 picks in 4 years, while already being the No, 1 seed in your conference. I think you're doing OK.

Another source but basically the same as above:

Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum aren't shying away from making an aggressive pitch—and breaking the NBA's tampering rules—in attempt to persuade Carmelo Anthony to join the Portland Trail Blazers.

Speaking to reporters at Lillard's basketball camp Wednesday, the Blazers backcourt duo said they believe Anthony is interested in making a move to the Pacific Northwest based on conversations they've had with the 10-time All-Star.

While McCollum said he thinks Anthony is "interested," according to the Oregonian's Joe Freeman, Lillard went so far as to say it's "a real possibility" that Anthony could bolt for Portland, per Rip City Radio's Jay Allen.

"Hashtag Free Melo," McCollum added, according to Blazers.com's Casey Holdahl.

Yeah, I liked the tweet, just not who tweeted it. Quack is about to pass Rick Fox on my list of most dispised people in the world. And I still HATE Rick Fox!!! STILL! Floppin, dirty playing, whiney little bitch! ARG!!!

(deep breaths Doug.....)

I only mentioned the 2018 BRK and LAL picks. BOS could easily end up with two top 5 picks in 2018 (or top 3 picks in both 2018 and 2019) They own all of their own future first round picks. plus the following that they are owed from other teams:
BOS would end up with the 1st and 2nd picks in the draft if this years lottery reoccurs next year, with the BKN pick being 1st, and the LAL pick being 2nd. That would be insane.

Can't be this bonesJones. He was on here bulldozing all my Melo takes a month ago.
I don't agree with how good you think he is. I think he'd be a good starter, not an all-star. I don't like his defense, but I've decided to say fuck it, because in the end, we're not winning it all, so we might as well land a household name and future HOF and have some fun scoring 120 points per game.

And I want us to trade for him because we would barely have to give anything up.

The other thing I've changed my mind on is that, if he would waive his NTC to come here, then he wouldn't be a problem egotistically. I always figured he'd bring the team down with his selfishness, but he knows this is Dame's and CJ's team. If he waived his NTC, I think it would show how he wants to add to that.

So while I don't agree with you, I have come around to the idea of Melo in a Blazers uniform for a couple different reasons, and I think that it'd be a good move to trade the little we'd have to trade to get him.

The ability to change one's mind, especially when new data becomes available, is not a weakness or character flaw.

Of course, it's also not nearly as fun as being able to say, "Neener, neener, neener, got you!!!! Burn!!!!"

He has, what, three years left on his deal? I haven't heard any reports of him being unhappy.

Nor have I - but the assets (the pile of shit) is not the issue. If he is unhappy and he does demand a trade - Portland has assets to send out.

IMHO - NO's play last season with all the big contracts was to have the assets to trade when something like this happens. I do not think he targeted AD or any other player - he just wanted to have the assets when the opportunity presented itself.

To go along with the No. 3 picks in the last two drafts + adding Gordon Hayward to the top seed in the East.

We already have the Ted Stepien Rule. Shit like this makes me wonder how long before we see a Mikhail Prokhorov Rule - something like you can't trade away a butt load of future unprotected first round picks for a bunch of guys who are over 35 years old.

Do you believe Garnett was 37 when that trade happened and Pierce and Terry turned 36 before playing their first game in BRK? That has to be the worst trade in NBA history.
