Should the Blazers puruse Carmelo Anthony?

Question: is there any team that has enough cap space just to absorb his contract? Seems pretty unlikely, but Philly used to. Because if I were Melo, I'd waive my no-trade clause for THAT team, with the condition that they agree to ship me on to some desperate contender later in the season. Anything's better than staying with NY at this point given that they've essentially scrubbed him from their website.

Ive been saying this for WEEKS now, I think he probably stays both of his years tho. Hard to turn down 30m on a good playoff team.

That is what I'm worried about. Haarlow had me nice and relaxed (like she used to do for LA, but that's another story...)
 
'Melo could add additional leverage by waiving his no-trade clause for at least a couple of teams he was willing to go to. That way, HOU would have to step up their offer as they are competing against no one right now. He might not end up at his first choice but at least he would have a shot. As of now, no way NY is trading him to HOU for what they are offering....which is the only reason POR has a shot.

Houston literally has nothing to offer NY.

They have very little in terms of players but so far, have refused to include future 1st round picks which they do have.
 
While I understand why Houston wants to trade for him, I don' know if they'll be significantly better with him than without.
 
Noah Vonleh starts at his position on one team and Ryan Anderson starts on the other.... If you swap melo out for one or the other one team is improved significantly more than the other

Houston is already better than Portland.

Think of it this way.

Portland is a 1.2 on the Richter scale. With Anthony, they'd be a 3.5

Houston is a 3.9 currently, with Anthony they'd be a 4.2.

Why is Houston better? Lillard and CJ are MAYBE a slightly worse version of CP and Harden. Paul is the only one of the 4 that plays defense. No one on their roster is Nurk, and I'd argue we MIGHT be a tad deeper.
 
As a Blazer fan for over 35 years its hard to have faith in this happening but at the very least it good entertainment to get us through the weekend to training camp. Even if it doesnt happen Im still very exciting about this years team.

Since they already traded their 2018 pick to LAC in the Chris Paul trade, the earliest first round picks HOU can trade to the Knicks are their 2020 and 2022 due to the Ted Stepien rule.

POR can offer their 2018 and 2020 picks. Advantage Portland (by four years, which is a huge difference for a rebuilding team like NYK).

I agree with you, but for a different reason. I just think Harden and CP3 are completely different types of players than Dame and CJ. I think at times we need an offensive wing like Melo to run the offense through and I am not sure Houston really does.

And I think that CJ and Dame will complement him more via spreading the floor than Cp3 would. Even though CP3 can shoot from deep-he just doesn't like to stand out there. I just don't think Melo fits with Paul. The types of players who do are the ones who are constantly in motion like JJ Reddick or players who he can find on the run or at the rim. Not Melo's forte'.
