Racism is not a thing in La Pine because La Pine has has very few minorities. Minorities are a rare thing in La Pine, so rare that they are interesting oddities.
Is Lake Oswego, Happy Valley, Canby, Bend, Sandy, Wisonville racist?
Why would LaPine be anymore or less racist as the cities I mentioned?
This whole political correctness, identity politics, is getting crazy.

I love all these cities and hope they all prosper and grow.

I don't think it's a case of who is more racist or not, as much as pointing out that maris's claiming (er, I mean his characters claim) like racism no longer exists because in his lilly white city he does not see or experience racism.

It's statements like this that prove that maris is just trolling people. I'm not sure why anyone takes anything he says seriously anymore. Unless you're responding/interacting with him because it's entertaining to yourself, I just don't see why anyone should take him seriously.

He is just utilizing the fact he lives (or claims to live) in a small town, as if that speaks for the whole. I.e., someone in a homogeneous city/town/area, is going to have a completely different view on things. It'd be like me saying "Rape is totally overblown. It never happens. I've met literally thousands of people, and I've never known a rapist or met someone who raped anyone. Therefore, it doesn't exist".

Or it could just be that I don't hang out with people who rape people.*

*I do know for a fact I am friends with women who have been raped or sexually assaulted, including my own sister

I wasn't referencing/commenting Maris comments. It just seems like some people in here have criticized a small central Oregon town as being racist primarily.
Again, I don't they are more or less than another city. Just my opinion.

just for the record, my half Asian son experienced racism in Wilsonville in elementary school....racists can live anywhere and do...small town Oregon has easily as many racists per population as say small town Iowa...yeah....we can try to sweep it under the rug but it's always been part of the mix ….my experience is it's more prominent amongst the uneducated wherever they live...I was a bartender in a logging country bar one summer here in a small town and racism was blatant. It was an ugly environment to work in. I quit after a couple months

my point was people brought it up because he always does, as if it's an accurate example of the rest of the country.

What is amazing to me is how he pretty much can say a provable lie about something and his base will believe him, defend him and praise him EVEN if it goes against what they know to be true and even if it's against what helps them in the long run.
Any dictators creed. He loves Putin because The Federation President can be as rich and elitist as he wants without back fire criticism.

My parents live in La Pine and don't get me wrong, I love it out there. HOWEVER, my girlfriend took this picture while we were there this summer and wow, I was a bit ashamed.View attachment 27421
I'm sorry, but that LGBT flag is pretty funny. I guarantee you I know some people who would fly that flag with "pride".

Wait... You don't think Racism is still a thing...? what...

Not in the usual sense of the word. Every day it dies a little simply due to evolution and human nature. Not my definition of a thing.

In America it has declined and faded at a rapid pace since my childhood, and certainly over the last few decades. The false narrative that it is on the rise is absurd.

Were it not for the constant race-baiting by politicians, lying for profit by political pundits, and 24 hour media coverage of every slight to a minority in a donut shop it would certainly be even less prevalent.

Despite the Deep State's efforts to divide US, Americans always come together in real life

Young (to me) people don't have a clue how different life is for everyone in America today in every way, shape and form. They will never know how little they actually know. Public schools and the media have deliberately obliterated/revised/rewritten history and young people can find truth only through old books and oral histories much the same as with American Indians.

This is a vendor from out of town at our Frontier Days Celebration. Many locals, including my son, registered complaints to the organizer suggesting the vendor might not be invited back next year. Pretty sure he didn't sell enough to want to come back.

As for the La Pine LGBT community, it's far greater per capita than Portland's is.

Yeah, somebody
Just so we're all clear about something, you DO realize you're falling for Trumps bullshit about that, right?

Liberals/the left (etc) are not "rooting" for a recession as a means to get rid of Trump. He is saying that, as a means to get re-elected, because he knows that his base believes any and everything he says, no matter how much provable bull shit it is and they won't actually do any research to find out if he's telling the truth or not and take, right?

It's in the con-mans playbook.

They're being conned. They've been conned. He doesn't believe what they believe, nor does he support their beliefs. He just says shit that sound close to what they want to hear, and when someone tells them it's wrong, provides them with some kind of evidence showing he's lying about it (etc), they'll just repeat the phrase "I'll look into it" (or something similar) but actually *won't*, because they are only interested in their side winning.

Somebody didn't do their research.

Somebody is being conned.

Somebody is falling for bullshit.

No, no one is falling for your bullshit. At least not here. Maybe on the mean streets of La Pine?

I understand my point was the smaller towns probably aren't any more or less than some regular PDX metro areas. I have 1/2 Asian grandkid in Gresham and Lake Oswego and they get harassed. Its everywhere I know. On the other hand I've experienced positive results form integration and willingness for races to get along as well.
I have one a grandson that is Caucasian and he's the only one on his HS soccer team, and it's been great, sure some kidding here and there, but he's doing great.

I can only speak for Lake Oswego because I've lived her and in the previous segment of Lake Oswego known as Oswego. Oswego was incredibly racist back in the 50's and before. My grandmother in Oswego couldn't stand Asians and there were dirty jokes galore about every group that wasn't White, Anglo-Saxon, Christian Protestants. We even made fun of Catholics and in my church we swear allegiance to the Catholic church. Somehow, I just never put the two together.
Now, Lake Oswego is pretty Progressive except for the wealthiest donors in our church who had a priest expelled for saying things like we need to be kind to our Hispanic immigrants. So, there still is a nasty element of racism here but they are old and dying out.
Shortly after I moved from Oswego to Portland I met some really nice Black kids and that coupled with my slow realization that racism just seemed wrong and coupled with my father's apology for denigrating Blacks and doing a 180° turn on the subject along with his switch to a string supporter of Black rights being equal to White rights, I changed. It was quite a while before I moved back into one of the old houses my mother still kept upon graduation from college. I don't think I witnessed any racism. Now, after buying a house in Aloha and living there for 35 years I'm back in Lake Oswego and notice a definite turn to Progressive here.
Only one guy lived here that was my age and lived here all of his life and he died in the hospital under the VA's care which broke my heart. Every single one of the others has moved on.

I'd like to see the evidence.

Do you have a link that proves that?
