Unfortunately since his breakout year of 2011 he can't stay healthy. He was off to a great start this past year with the Giants before he went down again.

I was looking for some (not very expensive) help for 1B -

The Yanks MUST have some kind of backup plan for Tex in case he goes into the tank AGAIN in 2015.

Of that list, I'd be agreeable to the following:

McCarthy for a 1 year deal with club option for 2nd yr
Scherzer or Shields for no more than 4 years
Really not liking Lester, but there really isn't any other lefty....

Either Asdrubal Cabrera, Hanley Ramirez, or Jed Lowrie to fill SS
Don't like Sandoval, but.... He would be an A-Rod/Tex insurance plan

Scherzer will be looking for in excess of $25M per so I'd have to pass on that. Hanley will be looking for something close to $20 per & is a freaking head case. He also seems to have trouble staying healthy. So IMO no on Ramirez.

...They can ask for the moon...but I'd be very surprised if Scherzer gets $25 Mil..and I don't think there's any way Hanley gets $20 MIL.

Didn't Scherzer turn down 23-24 mil per last season? And Hanley made $16M this past season, My guess is that he'll be looking for more. Maybe not 20 but close enough, question is, will he get it?

I think it was like 6 years/$144 Mil Scherzer turned down...he was still very good this year but not as good as he was in 2013. If you consider that there are other aces that will also hit the open market next year, I gotta believe it will hurt his chances of getting as much as he would have otherwise.

...as far as Hanley, he's a helluva offensive SS...but he just can't stay healthy and I think whatever deal he gets will be incentive laden based on how many games he can play each year.
