Sure. I'm happy for him and all but why? What does he bring that will make this team better in the next 3 years?
If he is still on the team they are tanking still.

I don’t see it.
Happy for him. He worked his whole life to get this but he will not be playing rotational minutes on a contender from what I see. NBA is full of guys better than him.

That was pretty much my point. I'm happy for him. He has worked very hard to get to where he is.

definitely didnt come across that way, sounds like your shitting on him for not being some A+ star or some shit.

…. And? What you said, Doesn’t really respond to what I’m saying.
He's a 13-15 bench player on a bad team playing because of injuries. Why would anyone think he was an A+ star player?
Glad he got his contract. He's obviously earned that but he will only be a practice guy playing spot minutes on this team going forward unless they decide to tank again next year. Which as much as I would hate that It might be exactly what they do and if that happens he might play the same role next season as well.
Good luck to him.

He's also 27, and I can't imagine he's going to take a leap at this stage in his career. If he were, say, 21 years old then I could be excited about this new contract, but as it is... **shrug**

Yeah not trashing the guy at all. He worked a long time and probably very hard to get that contract. You pretty much summed it up. ***shrug***

all im saying is that if you are actually happy for him, you sure doesnt sound like your actually happy for him. Just feels like backhanded complements on whats supposed to be a positive post, That's all.

He's also a hell of a lot better than anyone would have predicted this time last year, so there's no reason to believe his age will be a limitation relative to his contract.

Yeah, that's what I said about Joe Ingles his rookie year......at 27.
He got better and turned out to be a very good contributor for the Jazz.

At 27 Duop doesn't have the NBA center grind and wear on his body so he's a unicorn. Low miles. That's a good thing for extending his career. As it is I like his 3 year deal better than Trendon Watford...another guy who came out of the G league. Duop has a lot of skills for a big man.

I don't think building a roster based on the fact that one dude, one time, did something is a good strategy.

I agree that, if I had said that about Ingles (as you admit to), we would have been wrong. But that doesn't mean our thinking was wrong.

It's not like we're building around Reath. He's very good value as a minimum salary player that at the very least has shown that he could play in the league. Ideally he's our 3rd string. It's a minimum contract. You need to fill roster spots. Not all 15 spots have to be earmarked to upside and potential. Sometimes a grown up in the room is an OK thing

There is a difference between an A+ player and an A+ signing.
No one said he is a star.

I most certainly don’t consider that an A+ signing.

Fair enough. I don't either. Id give it a B+ though. In this rebuild, he will get playing time, has proven he can contribute and is a position of need with our history of bigs. It’s only 3 years and not alot of money. So, to me, I see it as a great move overall. In 2-3 years we can use him in a trade as an expiring, as we climb out of the cellar.
I just don't see any negatives to the signing.

You made the same basic argument with Lillard ... too old to have much upside ... the occasional counter-example doesn't hold much promise in his case. Being wrong is one thing, but being too stubborn to learn from it is another.

I misinterpreted what you said, initially, thinking you said I said that about Dame, rather than about other prospects being older.

Dame was 22 and a lottery pick. Him succeeding is much more likely than a 27 year-old guy who has never played in the NBA before. Comparing the two is silly, and saying I'm "stubborn" for having an opinion that Reath probably won't get much better is even moreso.

Do tou think he needs to get better for this to be a value signing or he we get what we have seen its still a good signing?
Im not expecting much more. 15 minutes as second/third string is fine and worth the contract in my opinion.

You're moving the goal posts from it being a good value contract to him succeeding, which is an easy one to weasel out of by not defining success.
