I think he honestly thinks American companies won’t just raise their prices to be the same as the imports.
They'll raise them more.

I handle purchasing for my employer and we received letters from some of our customers stating that we have to give them an itemized list of all of the things they buy from us which would be tariffed.

That's going to take a ton of time. Prices are going to have to go way up to cover that. So my employer is going to want to raise prices as much as possible until the customer pushes back.

You see, capitalism.

In an unhinged rant, Trump attacked reluctant Republicans. Demanded they support huge tariffs on Canada because of fentanyl coming across Northern border without tariffs.

Canada is not a significant source of fentanyl. And does Trump think drug smugglers pay tariffs?

The United States has one of the most open economies in the world, and the lowest average tariff rates in the world. While trade accounts for 67% of Canada's GDP, 73% of Mexico's GDP, and 37% of China's GDP, it accounts for only 24% of U.S. GDP.

I don't know if it's a good idea or a bad idea, but I see what he's ostensibly trying to do. It certainly won't curb inflation though.

Good and bad are meaningless words because they assume Trump has the same goals as you do.

The incorrect assumption is that Trump has a plan. He does whatever pops into his head and no matter how many people tell him he has facts wrong he insists he is always right. He is influenced by whatever he hears on Fox and whoever flatters him.
Even his sycophants don't try to find reason, they just say trust Trump.

In this case, wherever pops into Ghost Lee Iacocca’s head

The incorrect assumption is that Trump has a plan.

It's just like the reboot of Battlestar Galactica. Every episode it started off with...

AND THE SERIES ENDED AND WE NEVER KNEW WHAT THE PLAN WAS.

If he thinks he can run a third time, he'll be running against Obama then.

Apparently, he wants that and doesn't care. As long as he can run, he doesn't care who runs against him.

Didn't he say he wanted to run again and against Obama? I think he feels like if Obama will be allowed to run again that the Dems will be more likely to vote to change presidential term limits in the constitution.

Dems need to say fuck that. And, I think they will. They will be happy to not have him running and run someone else over getting to run Obama

What are imports from islands with no human inhabitants?

The idiot will force Taiwan to take it's world class chip tech to another country after we had just agreed to cooperate...they won't like this at all. How dumb can this administration be? All for the sake of insecure posturing and a feeble attempt at bullying people for no reason other than to show he can.

A flat $32 isn't that bad...

Seriously though. There is a reason for all of this. It makes the US look bad and strengthens Russia. It strengthens all authoritarians, really.

There will probably be another eight countries with nukes within the next year or two...
