Too soon. Let’s enjoy playoffs first while we have these guys. Break down the possible matchups.

Except it doesn't really explain anything because too many things can change. So yeah. Too early and we might as well just see what happens and where the chips fall.

How? What?

What's going to change before free agency? How wont we be in the position I explained?

This is what i said. Try to read and comprehend the statement-

There are so many things that it would be literally impossible to write every scenario available.

Not going to argue with you about something there is no right answer to.

How dare bones talk about the future!
WHAT ARE YOU THINKING BONES?
You're not a fan!

Wasn't it just yesterday that you started a thread about getting Cousins in the off season. Then today you posted about trying to get KD, Cousins, and AD? How is it okay for you to post off season stuff but too soon for Bones to do this?

Things can always change, but failing to plan is planning on failure.

Between now & FA, the likelihood of significant changes is minimal. There's really no way for Portland to get any cap space until after July 1 (and even then, its highly unlikely).

Why am I striking such a nerve in you? Relax. Can’t Bones and I both be wrong?

I'm not asking you to write every single one. If theres so many, then write 3.

Hahaha. I even said "normally I would've waited for the off-season for this and that's what I planned on doing but so many of you guys have asked me about it that I'm going to answer it now".

Makes it obvious they didnt watch the video. Smh. If your going to negatively comment on a video of mine, at least watch it first.

Why do you assume you struck a nerve? I was just curious as to your reasoning behind certain off season topics being okay and others that should wait.

Because the basic argument tactic against somebody calmly bringing up a reasonable point that you don't like is to say "Calm Down" or "Why are you so mad" or "why am I drinking a nerve with you"...

I hate when someone brings up a good point and because others have no good response they just assign false emotions to try to discredit them.

Fair enough-
#1 Major injuries or even fairly minor injuries. We all know they can happen. Portland is dealing with a couple right now. Lets take on scenario. We all love what Seth is bringing. But lets just say he tweaks (Minor) his knee again and goes down for the playoffs? What happens to his value? Trying to knock on wood really fucking hard right now. How about CJ? Collins? Turner?

#2 Playoff results. What happens if the Blazers go on a roll and find a way to click? Lets say the play a great series and roll through a team in 4 or 5 games in the first round and get some great rest. Second round they come in prepared and win in 7 games because they ended up with a great draw and had home court. Lets take it further.... CJ makes a game seven winner with 1 second left that propels them into the WCF's. Or conversely Dame falls down and they lose with one second left in front of the home crowd.

#3- This one is my absolute favorite. Evan Turner! If i would have told you on March 31st he was going to go out and log a triple D on April fools day you would have had a great laugh. What happens if Evan Turner goes Super Nova in the playoffs and averages a Double Double with three more triple doubles and does it pushing this team through a win against Golden State?

Just for fun AmiNO.... What happens if in the first round a team does the exact same thing the Pels did last year. Let Aminu have wide open looks all day and essentially play 5 on 4 with everyone else? They lock the guards down and cruise the passing lanes and let Aminu shoot or (dribble off his knee) the Blazers out of the series into a sweep. Seriously i honestly would rather have you out there shooting wide open looks from three in that case.

That is just the Blazers! there are 15 other teams that are going into the playoffs and a couple that will wilt in the end and miss them altogether.

Seriously i am not bashing you on the conversation at all. Just my take is it's way too early for that stuff.

Gold. This is pure gold. Sometimes, my friend, you are a comedic genius.

Can we get @hcp to be wrong and have the wrong trifecta?

Im talking about Curry, Hood, and Kanter only, and the struggle it will be to resign them under CBA rules. One of the caveats is we may (for better or worse) be able to resign one for the taxpayer MLE. But most likely, itll take the Full MLE, which means and need to shed a bit of salary to resign one of them. I dont really see how these 3 things directly change that specifically.

Like I said in the response there are just so many variables involved. All of the same issues apply to every player. I also covered issues that would effect all three of those players.

Nice job. It’s like the game let’s make a deal and we have to choose which door (player). My thought is to retain Hood, he is more versatile for what we need if we feel the need to hard cap ourselves. But I don’t know... we probably just make trades for underutilized players from other teams in the off season

Here's a suggestion. Take a speaking class or something similar as you have a bad habit that many amateurs have when doing videos. You kind of sing when you are talking with emphasis by raising the pitch at the end of a sentence. Listen to the professional people and how their voice is projected.

This is a really good breakdown. Well done, @BonesJones

But I disagree with the premise that all three of those guys will get more than than TP- MLE. With like 25% of the league entering free agency this year, the guys in the Kanter/Hood/Curry tier are inevitably gonna get squeezed after the mid-tier borderline stars get overpaid like they always do in FA. I don't think our situation will be as dire with these guys as you intimate.

Don’t think any of them get more than the tax MLE

Hood signed for $3.5M last summer. Don’t see how his value is going to double, or triple, a year later. His numbers in Portland aren’t much different than they were last year. In some ways, they’re down.

Curry signed for the minimum. Yes he was coming off an injury but we’re talking about a 29 year old journeyman. He’s played well lately but there’s nothing in his overall numbers that suggest anything more than maybe the tax MLE, if he’s lucky. He’s not going to be an option for a young team, so the most likely teams to pursue him are going to be teams in the tax. I don’t expect him back though, unless we trade CJ.

Kanter is the most likely to fetch the full MLE, but I still can’t see it happening. His defensive deficiencies hold his value back, and the center market isn’t littered with buyers.

If I had to guess, I think Portland will throw the tax MLE at one, probably Kanter given Nurks injury, and Meyers headed into the final year of his contract. But it’s also possible they throw the MLE at someone else that isn’t on the roster. Rondo, Dedmon, and the Morris twins come to mind, just off the top. It’s also possible they split the MLE up like they did last offseason.

Not saying you are wrong at all because I agree wholeheartedly. But one or all of their values could change in the next month.

Max we can offer Hood without using MLE is 4.2M. If we can get him to re-sign for that, I think it'd be a major coup.

Between Curry and Kanter, I have to believe that Kanter will get the larger free agent offer. If he'd take it, I wouldn't be opposed to using the MLE to keep Curry around.

Just boggles the mind when I read things like if he will take five to six million dollars a year to play basketball.

I doubt it, because even if they go crazy in a playoff series, there will be a much larger sample for teams to fall back on. They are who they are at this point.
