How did I know that the guy starting a thread with the idea of "let's re-think how bad slavery was!" would be MarAzul? Call it a wild hunch.

My favorite part is how he laments that there were not reparations for the slave owners.

You bet! Just think how much better it would have been than war. If you don't think avoiding war by "compensation" for loss of property, I can't follow you reasoning.

restore what family fortunes they would have had

Starting down that road, you will find many intersection where big crowds demand a take of the treasury.
A lot of family fortunes have never been made, because of bad shit happening, and taking from them to give to a select few is just some more bad shit.

Ha! You know Rasta! You really have a bent mind with limited ability to grasp the essence. But I am pleased that you can spell MarAzul!

You really have a bent mind with limited ability to grasp the essence
You sir are an unqualified judge of people.....once again with a false judgement about someone ...parroting Trump's practice of leading by insult...respect...pass it on...if anyone has a limited ability to grasp a concept that doesn't support his narrative....pot, kettle, black

big crowds demand a take of the treasury.
Like billions for an unnecessary border wall? I'd say the Civil War accomplished more than the Viet Nam or Korean wars did....and the Civil war was not all about slavery...that was part of it but humans selling humans for monetary compensation is wrong no matter what the profit margins are.....the south did not have to drag the war out.....they still practiced racial segregation long after the war.

family fortunes they would have had if they were white like you.

Now this is a concept that is most interesting. Whites all have generational fortunes!
I don't even know any of these people, but I guess you do? Just what is the thinking here?

Well he sure did not grasp the essence of what the thread was about, just like you fail to grasp the reason for the response.

Next you'll say that we shouldn't have lost so many lives in the American revolution or wasted the money when England was the supreme leader of the colonies.....England should have just bought the colonists off and avoided the cost of war eh?

Well he sure did not grasp the essence of what the thread was about, just like you fail to grasp the reason for the response.
I grasped the insult.......and your failure at civil discourse concerning it...but I'm not surprised

and your failure at civil discourse concerning it...but I'm not surprised

Ha!

Well now you have something. Rasta has never, not one time responded to a comment from me about his wild claims. Never even acknowledge there was a MarAzul in this form. Until the post you bitch about where he miss characterizes the whole idea behind the thread. And you want civil discourse from me?

Take a break river, before I pass out some more not so civil discourse.

Take a break river, before I pass out some more not so civil discourse.
ooooo.....the threat...this is me taking a break ...never stopped you before...I've read the thread daily here....made me wonder why economics and human slave trade made you start it? Sort of a human rights issue across the board wouldn't you think? All wars are costly...this one was very costly ...so was the American revolution and I wonder why you chose the Civil War to single out for loss of life and cost. I Agree with Denny...20 acres and a mule should have been addressed..Japan is dealing with reparations for comfort women around asia forced into prostitution...ignored it for decades...another thing not covered under war costs is the demolition that is unavoidable...this causes countries like Germany and Japan to retool post war and ugrade infrastructure....so war also creates less competition in the job market post war...thins the population of employable men...and makes arms dealers wealthy beyond reason...it's not all loss for everyone but it is for many

Much of this happened during your lifetime - you had to have seen it.

Yes Denny, I saw it.
But not from my view in Oregon. There were no Black people where I lived. Most of the Black people in Oregon came here during WWII to work in the shipyards. At least that is my understanding. They congregated close to the Shipyards on the Willamette and Columbia rivers. A large percentage of people in the area worked in these ship yard also. Everyone on both side of my family except those in the military, worked in the shipyards even though they lived in Oregon City.

One Uncle got a bus and the whole gang traveled to Portland every day along with others that filled the bus. Gasoline was not available for private cars, but my uncle got all he needed with priority hauling workers to the yards.

One Grandfather painted ships,
The other was a rigger, assembling ships,
All of the women were welders Including my mother and five aunts,
Three Uncles were riggers or shipwrights.

Dad was in the Navy, did not make it back from the Pacific.
Two of his brother in the Marines, did survive the war.
Dads father, the rigger, did not survive the shipyard,
Mother survive an accident in the shipyard, so I am told, but I never saw her again.

So much for generational wealth. When I was 15, I was renting a house making my way, paying my $10 monthy rent.

I do not know nor did I see the foul treatment you describe in Oregon, it does not mean it was not there, just not in my view.

I did see the bullshit on TV when it became available in Oregon. Starting with Little Rock AR.

Later, it whacked me in the Face in Lexington Kentucky when I went there for what I call IBM boot camp. New employee training.

A class that lasted about a month, 25 in a class, including two Black guys from NY City.
I was elected by the class as the Class President. Which really means the company grunt. Responsible for setting up the class dinner.
I had been to the Henry Clay house in Lexington where the host informs the visitors of all the great works by Henry Clay and his good intentions for Black people. You will find no discrimination in Lexington? The home of Henry Clay.

So I proceed with my duties to set up a class dinner at a place of my classmates choosing.
A steak house in Lexington. As everyone was arriving, I was hovering. The two Black guys showed up near the last,
and that is when the shit hit the fan. They won't let the Black guys in! WTF! They are part of my party of 25!

No go! So I suggest we all go to the Blue Ox, I knew that would work. By the way it was the original restaurant of Colonel Sanders.
We all ate dinner, but that was not the end the shit for me. The Blacks bitched to the boss of the school, about me putting them though this humiliation. I should have known better.
Well I did not.

But I would oppose your suggestion with all my strength. I see nothing fair in it at all. But I realize it could be force on us, but not without a fierce fucking fight.

You know that there are not a lot of Blacks in Oregon because they were banned from living in Oregon until the 1920's right?

Here's some Oregon history for you. In 1922 Oregon's governor was a KKK member. The Coon Chicken Inn was an actual restaurant in Oregon from 1931 to the 1950s.

I believe you are correct.

We did buy off ISIS in the W Bush years. We probably could (and maybe should?) buy off North Korea, too. We bought off Iran in the Obama years, no?
Why do we have to give an entity or country any assets at all? These politicians spend our tax money like drunken sailors in a whiskey bar.

Well on the first point. One thing at a time.

On the second point, I also agree.

Where I disagree is with Denny's idea that since the 20 acres and Mule deal failed to be completed, he wants to do it now.
Not with 20 acres and Mule, but as if the original deal had been done in and ideal way and now with fanatic appreciation.

Thus guaranteeing all of today's off spring of slaves a fruits of a perfect investments over the 150 years. Thereby assuring them of perfect outcomes through the years. Almost none of the rest of us can look astern at a track record anywhere near this. Often due to the normal bad stuff that happens to human beings. Thus the cost to us would be horrendous, even punitive.

You sound like you're going to start crying. You poor white victim you.

While the 20 arces and Mule could have been done in 1865. I am not so sure you could even do that today.

In 1865 you only needed 70 million acres. Easy at that time.
today you may need a Billion acres. I think we only have 2 billion total. Many of the 20 plots carved out of the available Federal land today, would not feed a man. So the Squabble would begin... no, it would change, but not end.

Wow, I'd never seen that before. Any indication of where it was located?

Oh crap! Wrong again.
2.7 billion acres total land in the US! Federal lands are only 640 million acres. Can't even do the 20 acres and a mule without beginning a confiscation program.

Which would be accomplished by...heavily taxing rich white people? I never knew that the Libertarian platform included such radical wealth distribution. Learn something new every day...

Obama put $10T on the government credit card without taxing anyone to pay for it. $2T of that would have sufficed for reparations.
