They aren't unable to read because they lack the ability. It's just nobody taught them. We aren't talking about growing wings and flying here. It's something humans have proven to be capable of knowing.

That is 100% theoretical... It is known that they weren't able to read. That we know. So you mean to tell me that you know for sure that they are just as capable as they are now because you just do? GOTCHA

and you're telling me that you know there is a god because you just do? GOTCHA!

The original point of Sly's post seems to be mocking.

Yeah but I chosen to ignore it until you guys hitched a ride on this banter for your own agenda. If you want to go down this road again, just say "When"

Honest question mags,

Do you think there's other civilizations in the universe?

So I'm curious how you interpret the Bible. I'm not going to lie and say I've read the whole thing cover to cover. Does the Bible account for other civilizations on other planets in any way?

If you really want to know my personal interpretation; I think the Bible is what's right for us. I think what's in the Bible is for our "Earth" to know. I also belief that the explanations in the Bible are worded for the people at the time. Why hasn't it been updated? I think it's our foundation and our future is what we make of it. I look at the Bible as my blue-print. I can choose to follow the blue-print exactly, or I may make my own additions in the future.

The one thing I will not sway from is Jesus Christ. That is the one thing that I 100% belief is accurate and from that point, I belief he lives through me. The rest is gravy.

Oh forgot to answer about the aliens.... I believe that we may never see aliens in this "Human Earth's" lifetime. From what I know today and traveling only at the speed of light, I just don't see how we can travel to places 100 billion light years away to discover life. So I see it as "trimming the fat" per-say.

Bah, I can't find it, but this reminds me of a great webcomic I saw about a year or two ago. Humans and Aliens meet and they start talking and the humans say "We would like to tell you about Jesus. He came to us 2000 years ago and told us his teachings." The alien says "Oh yeah, he was so proud of our society he visits us every year and brings us presents."

:P Hahahahahahahaha

Mags, I respect your way of looking at it. Honestly, I don't care if people believe in God or Jesus or Allah or whatever. Good on them. If it makes you happy, and you have a good life, awesome. What absolutely pisses me off is when people take their beliefs and then try to use those beliefs to persecute others or oppress others. That's when I feel they've overstepped their bounds. The Westboro Baptist Church is not helping Christianity right now.

The best way I can equate it is to how much of the world views America. We have our beliefs, we have our own ideology, and we go around the world tampering and putting our political system in place. It's no miracle that people hate the US. I was watching Argo and at the beginning they were talking about how most of the reason for the Iran hostage crisis was because the US and England engineered a coup to overthrow the leader of Iran and put into power a more westernized government. When we tamper in other countries to benefit our own interests, people will hate us. Period.

I think that's very similar to how some people feel about Christianity or Islam right now. When Christians scream about morals and hell, and try to keep gay people from getting married, it just makes people hate Christians. They don't care if it's all Christians, they just see the vocal part of the community and judge. Similarly, we see the Muslims that are trying to kill us and many people equate that to all Islam and all Muslims. Or many people around the world think that all Americans voted for Bush, or were in favor of the war in Iraq.

I will say, that I think it's annoying how many atheists have a superior attitude towards Christians. They aggressively pester Christians, so I don't think they're any better than the people they're criticizing.

I agree with everything you say 100%. I think true Christians shouldn't be all hell fire and brimstone. I think Grace should be the #1 priority

As for the OP, I'm curious about how we are able to map the universe that way with such precision. I've seen pictures of the Milky Way galaxy (our galaxy), who or what took them? Didn't we just make it Mars? The universe is probably too much for us to grasp so I wouldn't trust a picture attempting scale to it. Sly's pictures would probably only be the tip of the iceberg too. I think we're best worry about our own planet which we barely understand anyway.

So the Hubble can take a picture of its own galaxy?

These are pictures taken from Earth.

The Voyager 1 spacecraft is a 722 kg (1,590 lb) space probe launched by NASA on September 5, 1977 to study the outer Solar System and interstellar medium. Operating for 35 years, 7 months, and 26 days as of 1 May 2013,[2] the spacecraft receives routine commands and transmits data back to the Deep Space Network. At a distance of about 124.02 AU (1.855×1010 km) as of April 2013,[3][4] it is the farthest man-made object from Earth and is currently traveling in a previously unknown region of space. It is still unclear whether this region is part of interstellar space or an area within the Solar System.[5][6][7]

We don't know for sure what our galaxy looks like. We make a best guess based on the fact that we can see billions of others of various shapes. From what we CAN see looking at our galaxy from inside looking out, we can deduce the shape of the galaxy.

Ah, I see. Makes sense.

Oh awesome, you only cared about that one line.

How about this part?

y studying the density of neutral and ionized hydrogen as well as the rotational motion of stars, we know that the Milky Way is a barrel spiral galaxy. We can also take top-down images of nearby galaxies, like the Andromeda Galaxy (M31), NGC 3344 , and the Whirlpool Galaxy (M51). These images help inform the mesmerizing top-down reconstructions of the Milky Way Galaxy we often see.

They shoulda put a giant mirror on Voyager 1 so that Hubble could take pictures of what it looks like looking back at us...
