The year Mike Barrett spent away from the game

It's such a feel good story until he says he killed an animal and then dissed Mike Rice ('I don't want to be one of those guys right now who is hanging on and living vicariously and going on social media'). I'm happy for him though. He was always nice to me.

He was referring to HCP

Nobody really ever wants to go back to a job they've been fired from ....he's getting paid right now without working...come July he'll find a local gig and probably one that let's him sleep in his own bed everynight.....please please please let him and Rice take over Talkin' Ball!

I really don't think he was referring to Rice when he said that.

Has probably just been chillin' in NEP with the HCP

Anyone else find it weird that a self proclaimed Blazer fan since his days growing up didn't watch a single Blazer game this season?

I understand spending more time with family, but if there really was no bad blood then why didn't he tune in to see how things were going this season?

I'm sure he'd check the Blazer score here and there but I doubt he'd sit down and watch an entire game. His wife and family come first after missing so much traveling.

That's got to be one of the lamest excuses I've ever heard. He could've caught one of their 82 games...

I'd be shocked if he really didnt watch a couple of games. He had to be curious to see how the new guys did. He probably says he didnt watch any games so he can avoid being asked his opinion about Kevin and Lamar's on air performance.

If the Blazers have been his life and his profession for so long, maybe he just needed a break.

If you've been mowing lawns professionally all your life, you may not feel like taking a Sunday to mow your own lawn, no matter how much you enjoy mowing lawns. Ask HCP.

I think that after doing this for so long, taking a break is justifiable.

I remember talking to him mid December in the middle of a crazy stretch on the road. Told me he hadn't watched ANY of our broadcasts. Just hurt too much. And tell DorkSpeed that wasn't a shot at Rice when he mentioned social media.

I guess what I'm imagining is Barrett flipping through the channels and watching a couple minutes of the games here and there.

The story I'll remember best about him is the night Nate got fired and I watched Barrett's video reaction after the game in his hotel ....I think he was with Rice...he was really shook up...he had to shut off the video and cut it short. I had a different reaction when they fired Nate.

That's not what a play by play guy does. They're intricately involved in every play. I think not watching games was by design.

I don't think it's unusual to have a life change like he did and avoid visiting the culture.....when I played my last pub gig in the 90s I didn't set foot in a pub for a couple of years.

I still think he watched at least a couple games just out of curiosity and he is saying he didnt to simply avoid being asked his opinion on Kevin and Lamar.

I remember that.
