Bro I’ve said before, I honestly think I could beat your girls 1on1! I’m a lot faster than I used to be!

I wonder if the coaches have been hired elsewhere? LC overachieved this year, right?
They didn't overachieve this year, unfortunately. They did about the same as last year, but they were much closer in games than they were last year. Last year there were a lot of blowouts. This year they were in almost every game. And we took some nationally ranked teams down to the wire.

We also lost our leading scorer and rebounder halfway through the season to a broken foot.

And it sounds like they let Coach go based on performance.

Sounds like the assistant coaches (I believe in all sports) were let go due to budget cuts. I think that's the big beautiful bill coming back to bite us...

So the assistant coaches were taken down to half pay unless they had a teaching degree and could teach more classes. Which resulted in a lot of coaches just quitting.

It seems like all schools, elementary through college are dealing with the budget cuts...

I was just reading that.

Ouch, 29-95 record.

Will this have any effect on your daughter, who currently plays for them, and your other daughter, who they expressed interest in?
I don't think so. Unless you have a really bad coach come in who wants to get rid of current players and bring in their own. I know Western Oregon had that problem a few years ago.

I guess it just depends on who they hire.

They also had a Costa Rica trip next month that may get canceled or delayed.

You should tell the OC girl's coach to apply for the job. Then all 3 daughters can play there.

It's too bad. I really thought they were on the right track. We beat the League champion this year at home, and had a tough game with them at their place.

Get our young players some more experience and get Frederickson back for her senior year... I thought that team could contend.

Hoping this change of coaches goes better for your daughter than mine and her situation.

Sounds like our club coach's phone is blowing up from teams asking if Kait will transfer. Asking if her younger sisters are in play...

It's devastating having Coach Ann and Kaycie stripped away from us. Silver lining is that it's flattering to know the girls are wanted.

Tinsley’s not still the coach at OC?

Tinsley’s not still the coach at OC?
No. Tinsley hasn't been coach for at least 15 years. Brad took back over and won a few more titles I think, then Guelsdorf took over and won a couple titles and had several deep runs. Then his replacement never made it to state. This was her first year gone and our first year making State since Guelsdorf was Coach.

But the post you're replying to was talking about Lewis & Clark

Hey @Phatguysrule, my daughter’s college coach just stepped down yesterday after their last spring practice. Caught everybody by surprise. He is headed to Stanford across the bay.

Damn. I hope that works out well for your daughter!

Hope your little one and her teammates are doing OK with their transition. My daughter’s 2 roommates just hit the transfer portal this morning!

Not sure yet. Lots of moving parts....

Whoops.

Angry Parent Leaks Private Screenshots On Burner Phone To Force Oregon Basketball Coach’s Ouster

Brooke Cates is no longer the head coach of the women’s basketball team at West Linn High School in Oregon. That comes despite a state title win in March.

A scandal erupted following that championship season, leading to her resignation. An angry parent is believed to be the source of an information leak.

Details of the controversy have now been made public. Private text messages were made circulated throughout the West Linn community. The optics of those conversations aren’t great.

West Linn High School’s basketball coach stepped down.

Cates led the Lions to a 26-3 record in the 2026 season, capturing the program’s first state title and a No. 1 overall ranking in Oregon.

West Linn secured that crown with a 61-56 win over South Medford on March 14th. About a month later, its head coach retired.

That decision was not exactly made willingly.

In April, private conversations were made public by a parent of a player on the team. He or she allegedly gained access to a staffer’s iPad and snapped screenshots of the messages.

Some of those discussions involved criticism of players, including one in which Cates referenced a team member as being “cancerous.”

Andrew Nemec of West Coast Biased broke the story on Monday. He revealed what transpired behind the scenes following what was the school’s most successful season.

Last month, West Linn coach Brooke Cates stepped down from her position after private texts messages between her and a parent were copied onto a burner phone by another parent and sent to “who knows how many people” in the basketball community.

According to multiple sources inside the program, those messages included criticism of players and parents of the West Linn team, fueling considerable anger and resentment from parents.

Cates stood by some of her criticisms despite the optics. She admitted that there was tension within the team citing jealousy.

That may or may not have been linked to playing time and attention. Cates, according to Nemec’s story, had struggled appeasing parents in the past.

She put that animosity aside to coach in 2026. She will not do the same in 2027.
Recruiting activity is also under investigation.

A text message referenced the potential transfer of a player from Southridge located in nearby Beaverton. That conversation has been sent to the OSAA. A probe is “ongoing.”

The scandal puts a dark cloud over a championship winning season. Brook Cates will retire after nine years leading the program. She was hired in 2018 following the resignation of predecessor Jared Curtiss.

There has been little reported on her retirement. She is still listed on the school’s athletic directory but will reportedly serve in a teaching-only role moving forward.

West Linn’s search for a new women’s basketball coach is underway.
