Ashland has a great farmers market type store downtown....I stayed there (in Ashland) for a few days when our son finally left home and went to college and the wife and I wanted to getaway for a weekend...I enjoyed Ashland. Probably pricey but I don't think about that when I'm on vacation much...if I lived in Klamath I'd probably go to Ashland all the time.

It's a nice little town, like a mini Portland or something :mook:

Anyone else here dislike shopping as much as I do? I go directly to the area where the item I want is and pay up without wandering around window shopping...the exception would be if I'm in a music store......I LOVE wandering around in a music store for hours if I happen to be in Eugene...McKenzie River Music is my favorite ….Charlie there does all my repair work. Great guitars on the walls....but if I'm in Bimart….I go get the six pack of socks and split in short order
Exactly!
Your post could have been my post. Especial the bail of socks. Get them and count them later.

Don’t let me get started on our neighborhood restaurants son.

A lot of new restaurants over the past 15 years. More cultural choices of cuisine than before.

Hell, there are also a lot of food carts popping up around town especially in the downtown area and SEP.

Yeah!
Reminds me of Puerto Vallarta rather than Portland.

Had a dog named Kirkland, the kids are named Kirklandon and Kirklandette, and the wife screams "Costco" when she orgasms.

You know, typical American family.

barfo
Denny will love you for that...only the wife might be screaming Rosco while gritting her teeth
Kirk …..going where no mancaptain kirk.jpg has gone before!

Was this thread made to see how many people would say Target isn't a discount store?

How the hell can you be 100% disabled and still be able to type!!!!???
Sometimes I can't. I've got a tremor in my right hand so bad that it's now impossible for me to sign my name. That coupled with my bad vision means that I make a lot of spelling errors. Thank God for Spell Check.
Yeah, I hit the wrong keys often.
I also have trouble positioning the mouse in the right spot 'cause it jerks around so much that it's difficult to get it to stop in the right spot.
I'll bet I made 30 or 40 errors, that I usually correct quickly, just in this post.
TMI? Well, you asked.

Food carts are some of the best food around.
Generally speaking, I'd have to say that restaurants have gone downhill dramatically. The old Rose's is gone. Black Angus (Cattle Company) is gone from the Portland area so you have to go to Vancouver. The Refrectory is gone. Chevy's is gone. The Country Kitchen is not what it used to be. Restaurants used to serve prime steaks, now you're lucky if you get choice. Bonnie's Burgers is gone. The Carnival restaurant is gone. Gene and Joe's is now Tebo's and is no longer the greatest place to get a great hamburger. The Pagoda is gone. The Tik Tok is gone. Wade's, Bart's Wharf and Bill's Gold Coin are gone. The Crab Bowl is gone. The Dairy Maid in Lake Oswego is gone as i the Pinafore. Shakey's Pizza is gone. Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour is gone. The Original Taco House is gone. The restaurant in the Hoyt Hotel called the Roaring 20s Barbary Coast is gone. Sam's Hofbrau is gone. Hung Far Low is gone. Jazz de Opus and Opus Too is gone. The London Grill is gone. Quality Pie is gone. Trader Vic's is gone. The Veritable Quandary is gone. Waddle's is gone. Yaw's Top Notch is gone. The Canlis is gone. Der Reinlander is gone. The Elephant and Castle is gone. The Hill Villa is gone, it's now called the Chart House and isn't nearly as good. John's Meat Market (my parents used to frequent there and then ride their special bus to the Blazer games). The Monte Carlo, a quaint Italian restaurant is gone. The River Queen restaurant is gone. The Speck Drive-In is gone. Sylvia's is gone. The Top of the Cosmo is gone. Victoria Station is gone.

There was a steakhouse near Portland State University back in the early 60s that's long closed and I just can't remember their name. I'll try and recall it.

Edit: Jerry's Gable was the name of the steak house near the foot of Broadway Drive that I was trying to recall.

There are food carts here in Newberg as well. I usually go to the Mediterranean food cart and purchase a Lamb Shawarma or a Lamb Gyro. I am salivating at the thought of it now.

A lot of the old ones we grew up with have long gone lanny, but there are tons of new ones all over town that have some great reviews. Division street between 12th and 39th has really started to grow with new places as well as Belmont area, Hawthorne area, Mississippi Ave in N Portland and Alberta area have really grown with some eclectic restaurants. Then you factor in all the food carts and there are tons of choices for some good eats.

Just ha a burger at Mikes drive-inn last night!
Haven't been there in a few years...still very good.

Nope, they and Walmart are both in the discount category. Kmart too if there are any left. Im referring national chains.
Been to many Corporate retail conferences where they categorize retail.

Two kinds of Walmarts' >>>>>>>>>>>>>>The insane people populate particular stores and others have ordinary old men and women depending on the Walmart every week. Target gets sensible people they serve.

The night they closed the Kmart down, and the bells were ringing
The night they closed the Kmart down, and the people were singin' they went
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

I remember that song very well.
"The night they drove old Dixie down, and the bells were ringing
The night they drove old Dixie down, and the people were singin' they went
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la… "
