Watching Tanaka today & his other spring outings I've got a very good feeling about him. With his stuff I just don't see anybody going off on him. By that I mean jumping on him for 6-7 runs. I just think that with the exception of an occasional bump I really think he's going to be able to keep the Yankees in a very large % of the games he starts.

I mean unless the Yankees offense betrays him I can see him winning between 15-18 games. And I may be pushing it but I'm also going to predict an ERA of AT LEAST in the low 3 area.

Saw the comment that Tanaka and Kuroda will be split up in the rotation due to similar stuff, keep teams from getting used to it in a 3 game series.

1st-has his velocity increased in the last couple of weeks? (I know its not all about velocity, accuracy, & pitch selection as well).

2nd-I heard Tanaka pitched every 7th day in Japan. Given his readiness physcially, do you foresee him tapering off with a tired arm, come August? I'm sure the Yanks will keep their eyes glued to him, as the season wears on, what is the Skipper saying on how they are going to utilize him? Will he be our 2nd starter, our take over C.C.s spot? Or will only time tell? What are you hearing?

We get so damn little Yankee News. Hell now I am lucky to get any Local BB news. These and many other questions, I have heard little to nothing about, not until DTV pulls their hand and wallets out of the sand.

The Yankees have already mentioned that he'll skip a turn every now & then until he gets use to it.

If Tanaka can sustain a good (enough) fastball to keep the hitters from sitting on his breaking stuff, I think he'll be a very good- maybe ace-like pitcher for the Yanks for years to come, and lets not forget he's still a young pitcher.

So far so good but ST is a long way from pitching to everyday seasoned hitters.

...he was blowing away seasoned hitters in his last start. His splitter is just plain nasty. He can throw it up in the zone or down in the zone. So far hitters are outmatched against "Mr. Splitty".

I got to agree with you on this one Rick. I like Pineda much more than Phelps. I think Pineda's got a livelier deceptive set of pitches. I haven't seen near the amount of games I would like to this ST. But from what I've seen, on TV and the I-Net, I like Pineda quite a bit more than Phelps.

If his shoulder holds up, Pineda should nail down the 5 spot. Phelps looked good his last outing versus Boston, yet looked like crap warmed over vs. the Twins. I like Pineda's pitch selection more-so. I like his size, 6'7" is intimidating. When looking, at both Pitcher's past years worth of accomplishments: walks, strike outs, and Hits- per Innings Pitched, with this data, along with what I am seeing now, I give the nod to Pineda overwhelmingly! I'm sure I'm going to hear flack for this, from the board, yet I can take it. Bring it on......whoever wants the debate, I'll stay open minded.
