If anyone hasn't figured it out yet, besides being old, PED's, and injuries, The Yankees with the exception of Jeter, Grandy and Gardner do not have any "gritty" ballplayers in the lineup. Make fun of Pedrosia all you want, but he is a mini Paul O'Niell. Tino, was intense and wouldn't accept losing, "just ask the Marlin kids who reduse to change". But we have a bunch of gutless Madonna's out there. I'm so sick of this teams lack of guts, from CC, right down to Arod. The organization deserves what they are getting. They want to pay 38 year old guys 25 million to have 2 Game Winning hits per year. I can't wait to see if this once proud organization can speed up the rebuilding to competitive post season level of play. We were once built for the post season, now we are built to be guest on Maury...

wow..couple of losses after winning what 10 of 14 and they are gutless...overreacting a bit?
 
In a crucial series against a contender the best pitcher failed, the "ace" continued to fail and the Yankees big 6 went 6-42, not exactly a quality showing.

every series is crucial from here on out...was the last series against the sox crucial? was sweeping the blue jays cruicial...??

I understand your frustration major & I agree with most of what you said. But this just may be a case of just not being able to over come all the injuries we had this year. With that said, yes you do expect your two aces to keep the line moving when you're on a roll. Very disappointing. Lets hope Nova can get one back today.
 
I understand how people can see this as a over-reaction to 2 loses but it's not the loses that bother me. It is how we lose the game. With uninspired play, with the lineup that produced 5 hits, 4 singles and 1 triple. 5 hits that came from 3 players. Gutless. 5 Hits vs. 4 HR's by your opponent. Then you follow it up with Saturdays performance. We have 6 hits, with Reynolds having 2. All singles except for Grandy's double. So far today, we come out and look like we are ready to get out of Tampa. Oh, look, Longoria with another rbi against us. We continue to make those adjustments don't we. According to Lupica, Going into Saturday’s games the Yankees were 17-3 against the Blue Jays and Twins this season and six games under .500 against the rest of the world. So anyone that think these guys are nails, show me one player who has exhibited any emotion. Oh wait, they are professionals, they don't do that. yeah right! The Rays GM just added DeJesus and Young, we added another pitcher when Nix went down. Gutless!

Al, no disrespect, but 5 hits, 6 hits, pitchers choking (CC) in a must win game. And all you got is the sound bite "All series are big from here on in". Well news flash, no there not anymore after mailing in this 3 game effort. Overreacting no, sick of millionaires showing no guts. Yes. We would be in great shape if we played the Twins and the Blue Jays every day. You could feel real good about your team Al, but somewhere along the way, you have to beat good teams to. 11 hits, 9 singles, 1 double, and a triple in 2 games. Failing to bunt with runners on 1 and 2, nobody out, a lefty on lefty situation. Gutless, uninspired baseball Al. Understand that its not the losses that are bothering me, its our effort and approach on how they are happening and what I'm seeing on the field. Not much...
 
Major..I don't take offense. So no worries. We just have two different opinions. May I ask how old are you? Reason I ask is I remember lost teams and lost seasons in the 90s and dissapointment in the 80s

I am 59. I grew up watching the Yankees lose to the Dodgers and Cardinals. I remember Jerry Kinney, Horace Clarke. I remember when we got Danny Cater from the A's. So no, I'm not spoiled, entitled, etc. What I am is a fan of baseball, and I know the difference between gutless and getting beat. Al, the losing doesn't bother me, but how we are losing, the overall disgraceful state of this franchise, watching Longoria light us up every game without putting him on his ass. Bulletin, Cano homers... So I don't see it the way you do. But I come from a culture where there must be accountability... and you don't see a lot of that do you.
 
...Yanx losing to the Cardinals?...that was what, 1964 or so?...I was in a car with Mom and Dad listening to the WS game on the radio...I wanna say that The Mick hit a HR in that game but Clete Boyer's Brother, Ken hit a GS in that final game...I'm sure I cried.

We both did. Ken Boyer broke both our hearts. And then we hired Johnny Keane the next year. We are to old..

1964 was the end of a very special era. Just as I was starting to get into the game the Yankees started there slide. And no...............It wasn't my fault.
 
Look some players dominate some teams. Shit happens...you are right we see things differently...its a lonnnnng season and shit happens.they are human beings. Yes they make millions of dollars..but they are the elite of their profession. I'm sure Bill Gates has bad stretches of unproductive work too.. I hope you did not take offense on the age question. I deal with kids a lot and they see three series without a parade and to them its diagracefull. Hell I'm a ny jets fan...it can get a lot worse for this team to be anywhere as bad as the jets

...and fwiw, I've been a Raiders fan for nearly as long as a Yanx fan...and it's been ugly for quite awhile now, so I feel your pain...but the Raiders are still my team...and like the Yanx, they always will be.

In that situation it is. It is considered to be passing on the responsibility to someone else. This from a guy who has 4000 hits. Gutless, and anyone who has played this game knows it is. Now to answer your question, there recently has been talk that bunting is a wasted out. I don't believe that. I believe it is dictated by the situation. When the runner is already in scoring position and one out, and you are a former superstar of the game who has been known as a wizard with the bat, what would you call it? From the old school, it's gutless...
 
I don't know about that MB. If you look at the odds of getting a guy in from 3rd - they are a lot higher than getting him in from 2nd, because there are more ways to do it. And seeing that Ichiro is a good bunter with good speed - maybe he makes it 1st and 3rd. Sometimes doing something unexpected is the right move.

I remember a few years back that Brenley ripped some guy for bunting in the 8th inning of a no-hitter to get on base, but failed to acknowledge that the team was only down 1 or 2 runs at the time and needed a base-runner. In another case, had Torre not so stubbornly admitted that he was not going to bunt on Schilling in Game 6 of the 2004 ALCS and take advantage of his 'ketchup sock'- perhaps the Yankees could have gotten a few guys on, and found a way to win that game as well.

I am much more disturbed by guys going for the glory - ie. last year's ALCS Game 1 when Martin was swinging for the fences when the Yankees had a guy in scoring position in extra innings and he could have won the game with just a single. He threw away an AB.

But if he is unsuccessful, there are 2 outs and a guy on third. The out is more precious than moving up a base. But your point about glory swings is very true. One thing that has changed in the past few years is the approaches batters take to situational hitting.
