The first was questionable. The second was flat wrong. Terry was furious. Although I'm pretty sure he was already in a bad mood after the players threw the ball away 36 times and let them back in the game.

About 7 feet behind the line. 30 foot shots aren't that uncommon, though they're obviously an extreme minority on a percentage basis. But completely unguarded shots are also generally an extreme minority of shot attempts. Someone like Curry or Lillard taking one against no defense isn't a terrible shot at all.

I think Dame shoots just as well from there as he does the normal 3pt line. Really deep threes makes it so that you have to extend your follow through all the way and stops you from short-arming it if you maintain some resemblance of your form. There's days I shoot better from two feet below the NBA line than I do at the college thing. Dame's proven he can hit that and he's done it many times before. He was set and wide-open, with the shot clock ticking down and no other easy option. With 20 on the clock, I don't think he takes that, as he shouldn't. But in that situation, it's fine.

Right, with a WIDE open shot. You take that shot with 8 seconds left ot give you time to rebound and put back in case you miss....

Yeah, to me, those are the biggest things. A wide open 30' set shot is a lot easier than a contested three of normal length or a three off the dribble. 7-8 seconds was theoretically enough time to try for something else, but not nearly enough time to guarantee a better shot. More likely, someone gets off a closer but much more contested shot up against the shot clock.

Completely open at a comfortable distance for any 3pt shooter, nearly a minute left in the tied game, and a decent chance we get the rebound if he should miss.

Can't think of any reason not to go for the 3pt lead with such a nice opportunity.

To his credit, he's reeled in his shot selection quite a bit this year, but tonight was a major step back.
