THIS is why Canzano's "piece" was pathetic

So I have to be a veteran before I can comment on what Roy is doing?? By that rationale, I also can't comment on how Roy is playing, since I personally have never been an NBA player.

While I'm at it, I'm getting a little tired of you tooting your own horn about your military service. You being a veteran gives you no more "authority" than any of us. Yes, "people are free to do what they want," which means I'm free to criticize Roy for what I perceive to be disrespectful behavior toward his own country.

I think the majority of us are tired of you tooting the "disrespectful towards veterans" card, when you shouldn't, and can't, speak for them.

That's not really what he said.

He's saying you keep saying Roy is disrespecting vets by not being on the court, yet HCP is a vet and says he doesn't see it as being disrespectful. You're basically trying to speak for a whole group of people even when not all agree with you.

Get it?

It's not just veterans whom Roy is disrespecting. It's the flag and what it stands for.

Get it?

If it makes you feel any better, think of me as a spokesperson for all the veterans who disagree with HCP and DO think that Roy is disrespecting them.

You're entitled to your opinion.

(Think of me as a spokesperson for all the veterans who think your perspective is nuts and think perspectives like yours are what's wrong with America.)

Shooter, veterans think your perspective is nuts and think perspectives like yours are what's wrong with America.

Make you feel better? :)

And don't be disrespecting "THE" Flag. Flag aint gonna take that shit. Flag stands for something, but it won't stand for that. Flag be real angry if you disrespect it. Flag be popping a cap in yo ass.

barfo

Besides the fact his outrage and concern is absolutely fabricated (and done for the sole purpose of making money), this is the kind of shit that comes out of it.

And that's not the best of it. Read through some of the crap these idiots say.

Canzano just whored himself and Brandons right (yes, it's a RIGHT) to not stand in line with his teammates (after saying it wasn't a big deal 10 months ago), for website hits and $$.

I think Canzano's hero is McCarthy. :)

I don't see why you'd even copy this guys shit so it gets more attention than it already got.

I don't think that it's disrespecting veterans, personally, but I find it in bad taste because it's found disrespectful by so many people who attend the game and choose to honor the country as a whole by standing.

If I attend a wedding and someone else doesn't stand when the bride enters, I think I'd feel a bit bad. Not because the person not standing is offending ME, but because I find it to be in bad taste.

I have a similar opinion of Roy (alone) separating himself from his team and the rest of the audience during the SSB.

Ed O.

I didn't read the story because I don't want to give the page any extra hits, but from what others have posted you wouldn't have seen someone not standing at the wedding because he wouldn't have been in the room that the wedding was held. It's not like Roy sat on the bench while everyone else stood.

Also, like I said I didn't read the article, but if he's in a tunnel praying isn't he standing?

"Should be taken back to Africa"?

That in itself shows you how ignorant that person is.

JC openned up a big ugly can of worms.

Yep, Canzano is responsible for every comment someone makes on his story. Uh, huh.

Canzano's story was legitimate, and no fool talking about sending Roy back to Africa will change that.

Bahahaha @ all the people talking about DISRESPECTING THE FLAG and about Roy's "statement". You can't possibly be serious?! Oh well, it will give me something funny to send to everyone I know and we can all laugh at you in unison. Keep it up, I can't write comedy this gold.

I haven't seen HCP tooting his horn. He was asked a while back if he was a vet because of something said on the broadcast around veterans day. As a vet he should be able to point it out without getting a bunch of bull shit for it. I myself am not a vet. My lottery number was high enough I didn't get drafted for Viet Nam. I have nothing but respect for veterans. My father fought in WWII.

Brandon has a right to his choices even if we don't agree with them. I think it was tasteless on Canfartzo's part to mention it.

Everyone makes a choice that has consequences. Canzano chose to write this piece probably knowing well that it would cause nothing but negative feedback for Brandon Roy. But, it sure is creating a buzz for his column.

What do you think his intention was when writing this, exactly?

Canzano wanted to offend people like Shooter. Roy standing in the tunnel for the NA was like a tree falling in the forest with no one to hear if it made a sound. Canzano made sure that the sound was heard so that it could offend people like Shooter. Yet Shooter praises Canzano for allowing him to be outraged.

This you know how? Do you have secret insights into Canzano's motives? Isn't it just possible that Canzano was offended by Roy's behavior himself??

Isn't that the purpose of journalism--to inform us about things we may not be familiar with? Should Woodward and Bernstein have sat on their story about Nixon just to keep the sound of the tree falling in the forest from becoming audible?

I am not quite as powerful as you. I can read Canzano's mind, but not the country's mind, or the mind of all of the veterans.

Well, the main purpose of journalism is to sell papers. I will concede my point was a little flawed, but your comparison is not so similar. That was some mighty fine investigative journalism by Canzano...

He probably wasn't considering he wrote an article about Roy standing in the tunnel last January, during the national anthem, and used it to help promote Roy for the all-star game.

Um, do you have secret insights into Roy's motives?

Like when you said that Roy had political reasons behind it? Or implied....

So Roy has a problem with the national anthem of this country?? The same country that allows him to make millions of dollars playing a game he loves? The country with the greatest freedom and opportunity in the world, where his people have a higher standard of living than any country in Africa? The country where a black man is president, and a black women is the richest female in the country, and a black man sits on the Supreme Court?? The country which millions of people around the world are fighting to get into??

what secret insights do you have into Roy's motives??

after tonight's game, I'm feeling angrier towards Canzano and people who are criticizing Roy. I'm also a little disappointed in Roy if he let them bully him into changing his routine tonight; I'm sure if he did, that he resents it and it could subconsciously play out in less offensive and defensive effort. As in, "OK, you guys don't want me doing my routine that has worked so well for me, maybe I don't want you sitting here and seeing a great game!"
