Trump is stopping in Eugene because 9% of the civilian work force there is unemployed and if they find a job somewhere else will owe their first 10 years of income to Uncle Sam for worthless student loans.
 
All he does is complain about people and talk about himself. It's kinda funny in a sad sorta way.
 
Gotta be honest with you, I feel the same way about Bernie. My facebook feed is constantly full of old high school friends wanting to have a "chat" with people that aren't pro-bernie, because obviously if you aren't for bernie you hate america.

This entire election process is pretty pathetic.

Denny, I got a (serious) question for you.

What's the process for getting the Libertarian nomination? I know the nominating convention is at the end of the month. Do you have to throw your hat into the ring beforehand, or is everything up for grabs? Are there/ were there Libertarian primaries? Signatures? Delegates? How does it work?

It seems to me odd that no well-known figure has declared for a third-party run - it seems like there is an obvious opening for a conservative to try it. But given how hard it is to get on the ballot in all states, the Libertarian party nomination seems like it would be the easiest route.

Just about anyone who's legally eligible for the office and not a candidate for another party can be recognized as a presidential candidate. They must be a dues paying LP member.

Electors are elected in the primaries, but they are bound to no candidate. The electors select the nominee at the convention.

If you want to run and win, you have to get your electors voted in during the primaries.

I've witnessed about a half dozen conventions. Some take more than one ballot. There's not any noticeable acrimony among the contenders.

Bob Barr, republican turned libertarian, was the nominee one year. I wrote in Ron Paul. Otherwise, I voted for the nominee. Honest and good men, every one.

Gary Johnson is polling at about 11% nationally against Trump and Hiliar.

If republicans refuse to vote Trump, then I suggest vote Libertarian. At least you'll get the smaller government you say you want.

The neocons are looking at starting their own 3rd party. I want no part of it, and I think it won't get real traction.

Besides the neocons, it seems like another splinter group that could try a 3rd party would be the social conservatives.

Back to the Libertarian Party - Is there anyone who could plausibly parachute in from the outside (having not participated in the elector election) and win over the electors?
Most obvious example - Rand Paul? Could he win, or would your party rather have Gary Johnson? Anyone else?

Rand Paul is the most Libertarian of republicans, but he's not at all his father.

Maybe Bernie Sanders can paratroop into the green party as their nominee, eh?

Maybe - I have no idea. But I'm not sure the Green party is on very many ballots, and also most democrats are fine with Hillary. Not every democrat, to be sure, but a larger fraction than republicans who are fine with Trump.

Can't speak for dviss1, obviously. But a lot of Hillary supporters weren't going to vote for Obama in 2008. PUMA. But, in the end they did. Maybe it will turn out that way again. Maybe it won't.

It seems like Bernie supporters tend to be young, and young people don't like Trump even more than they don't like Clinton. But maybe they stay home or vote Green Party.

Exactly. I can't imagine any libertarian I know voting for someone like Cruz or any other social conservative. They might like the small or limited government add they are indeed fiscally conservative. But, most libertarians would be on the opposite side of the fence from Cruz socially.
 
The Lynden Fair is half an hour from me, plus a half hour to find parking and walk a few blocks, plus standing in line to get in. Then it will be standing room only (the stands hold 5000, and there's a field for about 5000 to stand). I haven't been there for about 15 years, since they raised prices. I used to go to the fair every year in the 80s and sit in those same grandstands (Johnny Cash, Paul Revere & the Raiders, etc.).

His Spokane event starts at Noon, so he won't be in Lynden (15 miles from his arrival at the Bellingham airport) till 2-3 hours after the stated 3 pm time. So everyone will wait for hours. I'm heading out now to McDonalds to buy some French Fries. In Bellingham, not half an hour away in Lynden. You guys tell me what happened in the blogs and TV.
