Notice This isn't good news. Do we need to find Nurkic insurance

Welcome to our community

That's the problem, that NO actually considered either as starting center material.

The entire summer changeover seemed questionable when it happened, and absurdly incompetent today.
Whatever, hindsight is 20/20.

20 million to these nobodies and 20 million to that nobody and so on and on and on.

SynTax points out that, based on what doctors said, Nurkic wasn't at risk of re-injury, Mediocre Man sarcastically talks about doctors in the forum.

tlong says that Nurkic "absolutely could" re-injure it, Mediocre Man eats it up.

Obviously, Mediocre Man believes that tlong really is a doctor and thus accepts his medical opinion.

Clearly if he injured it once it is always a risk to reinjure it. If you replace a lightbulb the new one can burn out at any time.

I'm sure they mean there isn't an increased risk of it breaking at this point.

If it is truly not susceptible to reinjury then explain it to him and play him. He was probably worried because it got more painful.

Start him with Vonleh and run everything through him.

Make him take 20 shots, the other chumps aren't making good use of them.

After the fracture has healed and you begin to walk on the leg again, the entire bone rapidly returns to its normal state of strength. Studies of fractured bones have shown that a repeat fracture is neither more nor less likely to occur at the site of old fracture.

(Playing him likely delays the recovery process)

Well, Nurk's been ruled out for Game 4 so he has plenty of time to heal fully before fall camp.

I'm not a doctor, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!

It was a terrible decision by the organization to play Nurkic. Just way too much risk.

Seriously? You wanna try using that excuse to your boss the next time you are sore form a weekends worth of hard yard work?

Yeah boss, Doctor said I cant do any further damage to myself, but I am sore and thinks its too much of a risk for me to come in and work. Sorry.

Come on now... They were trying to win game three. You win game three you have a chance to even the series up against one of the best teams ever. IF the doc says no risk of further injury, you play him!!!!

I think, if I've read right, that doctors did in fact say he can't re-injure it.

They wouldn't say it'd be his decision if he could. That would be grounds for them getting fired. I dont think they are that dumb.

Link?

No further damage, huh? That must be why he's not playing game 4, right? Some things are just obvious. I realize you believe the Blazers organization can do no wrong, but you may wish to re-think that position.

It could be that it really hurts him to play. No team should force a player to play on a broken leg and through that kind of pain.

No, it could just be pain. Players who force themselves to play through pain can start to use unnatural motions to compensate for the pain, leading to other potential injuries. It's perfectly rational and coherent to say, "There's no increased risk of further damage to the fracture by playing, so as long as the pain isn't too great, it's not dangerous to play but only the player himself can gauge the pain level. If the pain level is too high, he doesn't play."

If it was so bad after just 17 minutes in Game 3 that he can't play in Game 4, it makes one wonder how much it was really healed. The 'talking points' from the organization is that he wouldn't be out there unless he was 100%. Really? I don't know how many times I heard that but CLEARLY, he was not and is not at 100%.

This post has been approved by Bill Walton's feet.

I think him playing was to give the big man a taste of the playoffs. Guy's been so engaged since coming over to the team and really wanted to play. Let him go for a bit and see if he can handle the pain sorta thing. A carrot of sorts to dangle in front of him so he keeps working this summer once he's healthy.

I'm okay with him playing Game 3, and also sitting out Game 4.

Force? Do you really think they "forced" him to play?

Seriously.... you guys.... I can't even.....

The Bulls forced Marcus Fizer to play too soon after knee surgery. "Force" means any/all kinds of pressures.

"You won't get playing time if you don't..."
"We'll trade you to Detroit if you don't..."
"We'll trade your best friend if you don't..."
"You're killing your next contract value if you don't..."

In Fizer's case, it looked like the latter and to potentially save Bill Cartwright's job. More specifically (as I remember it), Cartwright came out and said Fizer wasn't ready to play and a few days later management said he was and he played and screwed up his knee after too recent surgery on it.

Note that I don't think the Blazers forced Nurk to play. He likely was willing, as all true competitors would be. But it was Stotts' choice to play him or not. DNPCD is up to the coach (hence the CD part).

Stott's said it was Nurk's decision for game 3. It wouldn't have been his decision if he hadn't been medically cleared. He gave it a go despite the pain to give his team a boost in a must-win game.

Even though no further damage was done in game 3, the series is essentially over now, so there's no longer a reason for him to push it.

Seems pretty simple to me.
