This sums up our off-season

You can question shit, though, without being the whiney bitch most on here are being. It's kind of ridiculous. It's like the incessant whining that happens during game threads, we fall behind in the first quarter, and everyone ties off the knot on their noose and stands up on the chair. Quarter two they sit down on the chair, quarter 3 they take down the noose from the piping, and quarter 4 they are jumping and down on the chair cheering. This same pattern plays out EVERY game thread by the same posters, after a while you would think some wouldn't just flip the fuck out every first quarter, and call the game over when we get down 20-10. But they do.
So it's the same. Saying KP needs to be fired for failing to make countless trades that you don't know who was involved. Or for not signing someone in free agency, when he TRIED to, and the player wasn't going to sign here anyways. What was he supposed to do there? He went after arguably the top free agent this offseasona, dn tat player wanted mroe money in a different city. So he got that. KP went hard for him, and in that time, players went elsewhere. He could haverecruited 5 people at once, but then we might have heard Hedo in a press conference saying yeah, I didn't like how there wasn't really a sense of attention paid to me, so I went to Toronto.
No, he hasn't made a big mid-season trade, so apparently he needs to be fired. Just building a very good very young team is no longer good enough. Let's fire KP, Fire Nate, and have Paul sell the team, and we can deal with a new owner, who might be cheap, a dumb GM, who makes moves, but they don't amount to shit, and a coach with a fancy offense, that may or may not produce wins. And watch as KP and Nate build another team into a winner. Bunch of fickle whiney bitches. You can cry about getting cvalled names, but then don't act the part and you won't.

I've been steadily complaining about this cap space bullshit the last two years, I'm keeping it consistent.

You may like losing every year, but I sure don't. So if you like to lose each year, go ahead and keep up your "keep on rolling with what we got" attitude, and taking swipes at the people who are upset. None of you provided a basis for argument against what he said. I just see a lot of name calling. So that means they are probably right, and you folks who don't like to hear about it, are wrong. :pimp:

Yeah, those 54 wins last year were torture. No offense, but if you don't think that this team doesn't improve simply by standing pat, you're not paying attention.

I'm sorry for you. Clearly, you're a Whitsitt era Blazer fan who needs his little trade fix, where getting players as mercenaries is the name of the game. Thankfully, I come from a time when we actually built a team. That team grew together and improved together. Where who wore the jersey meant something, not just the latest rent-a-player.

Well yippee for you. Do you want a cookie for complaining for the last two years about an event in the future, as opposed to appreciating what was going on on the floor during that time?

this team will get better just by getting older. hell, even OUTLAW and BLAKE will get better...so why not just keep them right? Sergio would have gotten better if he just stayed another year and got better!

Its not just our team getting better, its the competition sacking up....you go big or go home.

I can sum up this off season:

It's like a Keystone Cops movie with our front office as the cops. They run here and there, tripping over each other and generally getting nowhere. The guys they are trying to capture get away again and again, making the cops look like fools.

Hopefully it ends the way those movies do. Namely, everything works out for the best in the end.

Exactly.

So you would prefer to shorten our window? No thanks.

Philly "sacked up" last year with Elton Brand. How'd that work out for them?

Clippers "sacked up" with baron Davis last year. How'd that work out for them?

Who do you want to see signed that will constitue "sacking up" for you? What trade available that you know of that constitutes it?

I wasn't doing that instead of appreciating the team on the floor. I saw as many games as I could have possibly seen and appreciated the effort.

I merely recognized the turd of cap space two years into the future.

You seem to think that because a team is doing well, you leave "well enough alone". well, that's fine and dandy but when the past two years have been about the "09 plan to put us over the top" and jack shit isn't being done about it....well, you can see my disappointment...or maybe not. Maybe you enjoy mediocrity and comfort.

Yes, and you have just proved how worthless cap space is. Thank you for proving my point.

Consolidation trades and trading expiring contracts IS THE WAY TO GO.

oh, I forgot...because no trades have been completed, we might as well give up!

yay for mediocrity!

Sorry, I didn't know 54 wins was mediocrity. But I do enjoy the comfort from getting those 54 wins with an injured C and SF, and a young rotation. Yes I do. I would like to see something happen this offseason. I would like to see a big addition to our team. I'm just not flippin gout withevery hour that passes that it hasn't happened yet. The season hsan't started yet. Or has it? Did I miss when the offseason ended? Again, who is it you want that was pushing us over the top that we missed out on?

Crazy I didnt realized that I had gone back and logged on to the O-live forum today.

It's amazing, I will generally flip between here, RealGm, and O-Live, and thru this past week, O-Live is actually the more rational and sane of the 3. Portland really needs a baseball team, so people have something else to do during the summer, and a different team to worry and focus on.

Are we an elite team next season?

Did we make it out of the first round of the playoffs?

These are the only things that matter. I realize that Roy + Aldridge + Oden are sufficient to get us to the top.

Its not so much someone pushing us over the top versus the blind myth of what people on this board have been hyping...the cap space. To me I never really expected anything of it. I believe the real reason we didn't trade RLEC was so we didn't take back a contract that would have killed our capspace this summer. It was a chess game and we're a pawn in check right now.

By your standards, we should never trade anyone on the team since we won 54 games last year. Its a stupid argument and is one that keeps us down the ladder a bit. The teams we are aiming at, the elite teams in the west got stronger...we have done NOTHING to address that other than we got more experience. You adjust to the situations, you can't assume the league is going to be easier next year.

Question: If we win LESS than 54 games, is it an epic fuckup then?

Gotta agree with Pop on this one.. we got something pretty fun for the summers.

Well, if we're a pawn in check, then I think we'll make out pretty well. Good thing the other side is focusing on putting our pawns in check, instead of our king.

My standards are not at all never trade anyone. So yes, it's a stupid argument I didn't make. Good job. I mentioned our win total, because you said we were stuck in mediocrity. 54 wins is not mediocrity. If that's your definition of mediocrity, then your expectations for success are a little inflated. In my post you quoted, I specifically said I would like to see something happen. My issue is with everyone whining abou tnothing happening every second, hour, day. OMG, another 5 minutes passed, and we didn't trade for anyone, EPIC FAIL! Gimme a fucking break.

As for adjusting to situations I agree. You adjust to them. And part of our adjustment right now is adjusting to the realization that the free agent market isn't all it's cracked up to be, and as of righ tnow, people are possibly asking for too much in return on trade. So you adjust, and focus internally. You don't rush out and make the first move you can just to make a move. Again, what trade do you want made? And is it worth the cost? Does Richard Jefferson make us a title contender? Does Vince Carter? At the cost of Batum or Rudy? Who else?

My standards of success are winning in the playoffs and winning the NBA championship. Right now, we are capable of the former but probably not of the latter.

And yes, getting Crash Wallace at the expense of Batum is a gamble I would have taken, if that was available.

My problem is not the lack of action, as I believe that there is really nothing out there to begin with, its more of an overall picture from the last two years of not building more assets that can be used to upgrade talent.

Everyone likes to throw "54 wins" out there as a measure of our team's worth....so, I ask again, if we do win less than 54 games next year, does that mean we're a team on the decline?

If we win fewer than 54 games, but have the same seeding as before (4th), I'd call it a wash. If our seeding is higher (3rd, 2nd) because the rest of the West is also winning fewer games, then our season is an improvement over last season.

And I'll be an adult and say it out loud: if we win fewer games and have a lower seed (5th or worse), then the season will have been a let-down.

:clap::clap::clap:

Complacency is the enemy of success.

It's not complacency if the individual players are not complacent, though. They can continue to improve, which in turn improves the team.

For the record, I don't blame KP for the Hedo situation. Sometimes, stuff happens.

I do believe the whole "cap space in 09" plan was silly, and I said so from the get-go. You cannot predict the FA market 2 years in advance. It just can't be done! Playing the FA market is like being one of 10 people on a leaky boat with only one life-jacket. *Somebody* is going to survive when the boat goes down, but the odds are it won't be you!
