I think we all must admit: those are some CHEAP commercials. I'd bet they're cheaper than doing one visual approach with graphics and a VO... given the short notice that the show presumably gets about their guests.
I'm not a fan of the commercial, mainly because his delivery of the messages is the same... every... time. But it's probably smarter to make a ton of cheap ads that can be up-to-date than one or two that just have graphical overlays.
