3 college quarters times (1000 tuition + 300 books) + (9 months times 500/month for a studio apartment) = 8400

That's tuition for the "U. at State." It's about 600-800 per quarter at State College.

The free stuff line always cracks me up. Buffett, Gates, Clooney, Springsteen etc.... They all just want free stuff. Yeah, that's it.

They're rich enough to where no government policy will impact their lives financially.

Sweet. I want to go back to finish my dissertation. The U of C is roughly $60K annually for tuition. Pay up.

If you want to go to college, you derive a benefit from it, both intellectually and in terms of skills. Why should that benefit be free? It's an investment you make in yourself.

Zags, while Jay Berwanger may have won the very first Heisman Trophy (his likeness is the trophy itself), the University of Chicago is hardly a sports hotbed. However, you want first class education, right? You have to make an investment in quality faculty. It's a small price to pay for our future. Pay up!

I was speaking in general. University of Colorado for instance, where my cousin went is beginning the excavation of a $65 million rec center. Thats the idea...

Use all that money from ridiculous tuition to pay for an awesome rec center with a buffalo shaped swimming pool.

Tuition prices are ridiculous, cheap and free college is the way to go. Europe has it right.

There's a big difference between a lifestyle where one makes $5,000,000 annually and one where one only makes $250K. Both are called "rich", but the former can't really be touched by tax increases.

I'm not the one unwilling to invest in our country. And why when I bring up children do you think about weiners? That's a little disturbing.

In seriousness, tuition doesn't pay for those kinds of stupid trifles. Alums give money to school to pay for that stuff. In fact, at most private universities, tuition doesn't cover the actual cost of educatiion. The endowment kicks in the rest. Of course, the endowment is primarly comprised of greedy people like me, who give money to their alma maters, so obviously it's immoral.
