Thron's rebuilding plan has a deadline: 2010

Not enough time to do what? Trade veterans for young talent and open up cap room to sign the King? Dude that should have been done yesterday.

well, that article's just saying what some of us have been saying here for quite some time

still, you never know. thorn's last move as a gm is to bring lebron over in a few years and have a solid championship team.

Devin Harris along with Boone and Williams is great. Add a LeBron and that's a sexy lineup that can compete for years.

If I was Lebron, I'd rather go play with veterens in their prime, than young players who are still learning how to play the game. One of the main reasons Joe Johnson looks so disinterested in Atlanta, he much rather play with veterans, than depend on a bunch of 22 and 23 year olds

Devon Harris would be in his prime, as would Swat and Boone...adding Lebron to that lineup with some younger players and some solid vets and you have a really solid team.

If Harris turns into a top 5 pointguard, Lebron maintains as a top 3 player and Swat and Boone progress like they should then yeah...should be a solid core.

Agreed. We wouldn't be throwing him into a rookie mix. He would have players who have competed together for two years.

If we completed the Jermaine O'neal deal and the Mike Miller deal than we'd be clearing damn near 41 million in cap space for that offseason...realistically we could make a play for both Lebron and Dwade.

I thought we were just trying to improve our team by exchanging a disgruntled player for a young player with a bunch of upside.

IMO this isn't exactly rebuilding - if it was, we'd probably be getting rid of Carter and Jefferson for some young talent, too.

that's what i've been saying all along...the plan should be clearing cap space for the 2010-11 season and targetting lebron...lots of young superstars will be unrestricted and the lure of a new ultramodern arena plus millions of brooklyn fans waiting for another major sports team plus the arena is in manhattan's backyard where fans are used to shelling out $$$ to watch a losing, dysfunctional team.

lebron and good pal and nets' co-owner jay-z already have a side deal in place and both aren't as stupid as stackhouse...nike and lebron are already seeing $$$...

I think the Nets can do it by 2010. They are building a team that should be competitive for the new arena opening in Brooklyn. They have Kiki Vandeweghe in the front office along with Thorn, and he knows how to work the salary cap, and that appears to be what they are doing.

The possibilty of moving Kidd for Devin Harris, buying out Stackhouse, and the expiring contracts will help them (if that option is still on the table). This would give the Nets the flexibility of moving Marcus Williams with either Vince or Krstic. Krstic would be very valuable cause teams know he's a good player and they can sign and trade him this offseason. Package Marcus Williams and Krstic together along with one or two draft picks (prefered from the Kidd trade) and maybe some cash and ship them off to the LA Clippers for Elton Brand. The Clippers (mainly Donald Sterling) should realize that they aren't going anywhere and try to get rid of Brand for some valuable pieces and try to rebuild again. They need a PG and Williams would fit that. They would need an able big body to replace Brand and that is where Krstic can come in. The draft picks would help the Clippers in other areas needed (basically everywhere).

I basically want the Nets to steer clear of Jermaine O'Neal at all costs.

Now I hear the Nets are talking to the Grizzlies again for Mike Miller for Boki and Magloire. I say go for it. Miller is a nice vet who can score, play defense, handle the ball, and shoot the 3. If they can move VC, he'd be a good replacement.

In the offseason they can make a play for guys like Monta Ellis, Mickael Pietrus, and Damien Wilkins.

Ultimately, this would be my Nets Roster for next season if things are done the right way (maybe Thorn and Kiki can read this and make it happen?):

PG - Devin Harris
SG - Mike Miller
SF - Richard Jefferson
PF - Elton Brand
C - Josh Boone

Bench:
F/C - Sean Williams
G/F - Mickael Pietrus
G - Monta Ellis or Damien Wilkins

This would be a nice scoring/defense team. Brand and Jefferson would be the main scorers but you got secondary guys like Harris and Miller who can also score when the defense focuses on RJ and Brand. Williams would provide a spark off the bench and Pietrus would get some good playing time like he wanted. Lack of defense wouldn't be a problem since everyone here plays it. It's just what the Nets want, a young, energetic team with budding stars (RJ, Elton Brand). They also have the trade chips available if Lebron wants out of Cleveland.
