Rip job: Thomas bashes Martin, Collins -- and own teammates

By CHRIS SHERIDAN, AP Basketball Writer
April 21, 2004

GREENBURGH, N.Y. (AP) -- Injured Knicks forward Tim Thomas ripped Nets forward Kenyon Martin as a phony tough guy and criticized his teammates, too, for failing to respond to the flagrant foul that sidelined him.

Thomas will not play in Game 3 Thursday night, when New Jersey will try to take a 3-0 lead over New York, but if he makes it back for Game 4, a confrontation is all but guaranteed.

``My goal is just to get back out there on the court before this series is over so I can go hit somebody. That's it. That's all I'm looking forward to,'' Thomas said Wednesday. ``What's been done to me is going to be done to them. It's very simple.''

Uhhh... I really hope he's not serious about "hitting somebody." Not so professional.

Whoa....I would'nt be surprised if Thomas gets fined for speaking that. I don't care how dumb this may sound. But if I was Thomas I would have the same intentions. Face it. The Knicks are done. They're not going to beat the Nets. No Allan Houston. So what the point? He left the arena in a STRETCHER! If I were him I would want payback. David Stern could suspend me for the next 42 games next season. As long as Jason Collins or whom ever fouled me gets something return. I'm good. If Thomas is smart he better not try to swing and intentionally try to knock Collins or whoever senseless. But he better commit one hard flargant foul when Jason Collins goes to the rim for a slam.

The phase "all talk and no action" comes to mind here but thats been the story of Tim Thomas's career.

Well I dont know if you guys know this but Tim Thomas is the biggest joke in the NBA. He great at talking trash in the media & not backing any of his statements up with any type of action. This goes all the way back to his days with the Bucks. So these fake"Iam going to get them comments" dont really shock me at all. He saying them because he knows he want be on the court for game 3 and most likely game 4 either. So he will never have to back his tuff talk up with any action.

I just hope a guy like Martin doesnt get caught up listening to what this clown says in the newpaper. The Nets have bigger goals & things to think about then a talker like Thomas. We all know that K-mart would be more than willing to introduce Tim Thomas' jaw to Kenyon's knuckle. But thats not what the Nets need right now.

Isiah Thomas & Lenny Wilkens need to tell TT & a few other knicks to shut their mouths. And take their beating like grown ups. They talked all this hard stuff about what they were going to do to the Nets in game 2, as a far as committing serious fouls. And then the Nets walk thru the lane to get 50 layups. And the Knicks end up looking stupid. So it wouldnt shock me if the same thing happened in game 3.

Tim Thomas should be thanking Jason Collins. The way Tim Thomas was getting beat off the dribble for most of game 1 by RJ, Collins saved him from getting abused for the rest of the series. Collins saved him from being exposed as the overpaid, biggest waste of talent, one dimensional player that he has been since he came in the league out of Villinova. Sit on the side lines & shut up Thomas!

he still think his team will do something to the Nets. Any1 else find what Thomas say very, very funny?

i wouldn't be suprised if the league suspended thomas for the rest of the series(since he will come back eventually). publicly saying that he is going onto the court to physically hurt someone is basically assault. you go out there and play the game, not to hurt people. you are a freakin nba professional! u get paid great money to play a great game. almost anyone would like to be in your shoes. stop being a little bi*tch and stop crying to your mommy. go talk to isiah. if collins did that to thomas in the bad boys era, that wouldnt even be considered a foul. tim, you were/are a dissapointment in talent. you were supposed to be a superstar, but you became a joke that noone will ever take serious.

bottom line, people have gotten fouled a lot harder than he has. you have to THINK before you SPEAK. saying anything in public is asking for trouble. him and deke are pretty good in the papers, just bad on the court. so they shoudl take their pick which profession they want to choose.

btw. i heard it on the TNT show after i watched the bucks/det game (bucks won btw) and ernie (whatever his last name is) said that thomas also said to call don king and set up a match between him and kmart. you have got to be kidding me. 1st you call kmart fake, then you wana get in a ring with him? if you wana die, jump out of the car of the NJTP, it will be much easier and less painful. also, i would think it woudl be embarrasing to be a knicks fan now, you finally get back into the playoffs and your team have a few cry babies.

The Nets may be laughing at his comments right now. He's the fake one. KMart picking his opponents? Man, you'll even see him banging it up with Shaq or Big Ben.

He basically said that his only goal this series is to get back at the Nets and hurt them. He should be suspended.

He's just bringing more trouble to the Knicks team.

He's the one acting all tough with no actions to back it up. He's the one who couldn't understand that there'll be hard fouls in the NBA esp. the playoffs. To quote Barkley, NBA= No Babies Allowed.

man, i wish i could get paid millions of dollars to put on a knicks uniform, do nothing and just cry on the bench. man, that HAS to be the life.

i wonder what he is going to say when people call him out for being all talk. this seriously could be the beginning of the end of tt's career. he wont be respected, not like he is now. he is basically a backup playing in a starters role.

the best thing he said was something along the lines that 'if you can't beat me, then hurt me" it was on the tnt show last night. that was really a joke. he has some balls to call kmart fake, then cry, then act like he is the best player on the knicks, then cry some more, then call his mommy to cry, then call out his teammates. gj timmy t, you've officially embarrassed yourself in public.

Martin wears tabloid back page on his jersey at practice

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Kenyon Martin taped the back page of a newspaper with the headline "Whiny Tim" to his practice jersey Thursday before his New Jersey Nets' Game 3 against the New York Knicks.

Martin also mocked and challenged Knicks forward Tim Thomas, who criticized his own teammates and called Martin a phony tough guy a day earlier.

"He knows I'm going to be there at 7 o'clock tonight," Martin said. "He knows where to find me. ... Lock me and him in a room together and see who comes out."</div>

lol, that i great. i hope someone took a photo of that. i think kmart is really getting inside tt's head. K isnt just talking, he is talking the truth. whether people want to believe it or not, whether they like kmart or not, but what he is saying is the truth. tt isnt a duncan or even an all-star. he is just another person traded to another team. knicks might want to look for a starting f next year. he hasnt shown to be a low post guy or a guy who wants to get physical.

kurt also isnt a f who wants to get physical. someone needs to be a post presence to try give kmart fouls. they cant do that, thats why kmart is so good this series. its just too easy

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I just hope a guy like Martin doesnt get caught up listening to what this clown says in the newpaper.</div>

Too late that for that. He knowns all about it. Its all in the article that InNetsWeTrust posted. Here's the quote that Kenyon Martin said that really caught my attention:

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">"He knows where to find me. ... Lock me and him in a room together and see who comes out.''</div>

Is this a challenge?

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">He saying them because he knows he want be on the court for game 3 and most likely game 4 either.</div>

I never thought about that. He's a injured and most likely wont come back unless if the Knicks force a Game 7 which is not going to happen. So he would have to wait till next season to confront K-Mart in person. By then K-Mart might forget all about it. So there goes that fight...

Lets hope this creates a great, intense game tonight.

It wasn't a challenge. He's basically creating a scenario to prove a point regarding the "fugazy" tough guy image that Tim said. We all know that KMart will be the one to come out of that room if ever that happens.

That is a really funny article, I look forward to Game 3

Thomas embrassing himself just seals a big game for K-Mart. The Knicks are softer than cotton. When will they learn?

this could not be the most anticipated game in the first round in the league. the other games in the east and west are iffy. the lakers/rockets game 1 was the best so far. spurs/griz=boring, pacers/celts=boring, wolves/nugs=boring, pistons/bucks=even so its interesting, mavs/kings= promots this as a high scoring game, both teams are playing subpar=boring, heat/hornets=boring cause hornets are lost, nets/knicks=intensty for game3.

with all this going on, i still dont see the nets losing. they showed no reason why i would think that. the knicks showed me now reason why they could win this one. yea its msg so i expect a close 1st half, we could even be losing at halftime, but the second half is when our defense will kick in. bottom line, we play better defense.

TT was stupid to say that he was going to hit some1....hes should just keep his mouth shut...and when he gets back then hit some1 hard

I wouldn't ask that after reading this a little bit earlier :

So , should both get something serious? I think it was a great comment by K-Mart but , I wouldn't take that risk.

Props to Timmy man, this is the PLAYOFFS, you cant let it pass without some hittin and fightin, this is some DRAMA I like that!

You guys heard bout KMart's comment on Timmy's attack tho right? Holllyy... only if these guys could rap... make some diss records, or somethin haha!

both!? kmart didnt say he wanted to go out and hurt someone, thomas did. how would you like it if an opponent said he wanted to hurt someone on your team? we have a chance to get back to the finals, i dont a cry baby coming into a game and taking out our emotional leader with a cheap shot.

bottom line, it won't happen. even if/when he does play, if he plays in game4, he won't do anything. i would be suprised if he said something then backed it up. he will probably sit out game 4 so he wont have to see kmart/nets till next yr.

obviously most of the posts here would be biased. most ppl here r nets fans so they would h8 tt.

if this was in the knicks forum it would be a totally new story....

Well honestly Iam not dissin Thomas for what he said to k-mart. I can understand him being a little bit upset. All Iam saying is Tim Thomas is a joke. And Always has been a joke from his days with the Bucks. His whole career he has made excuses on why he is trash. I cant respect players like that.

He cries about not being on the floor in the playoffs yet when the playoffs use to come around when he was a Buck for the most part he played scared. He turned the ball over alot. And was extremely inconsistent. Truth be told I dont think he really cares about being on the court in the playoffs as much as he claims too. In game 1, all he did was committ silly fouls to find him self on the bench. It didnt reallly seem like he wanted to be on the court at that point an time.

yeah im not saying that tt is good. im just saying that nets fans would diss tt and knicks fans would like what hes doing. the argument could be in debate. im personally not a supporter or hater of either team.

the knicks fans can argue that TT is standing up for himself and he shouldnt have been fouled so hard by collins and kmart shouldnt have taped those comments to his shirt.

on the other hand, nets fans can argue that TT's comments about hitting ppl is inappropriate and he just whines too much.

Actually man, there's nothing wrong about TT standing up for himself. The problem is, everybody knows that he can't back up his words. He's all talk and no action. He's been an underachiever all the years of his career. Now if some tough and intense guy like KMart, Artest and Big Ben who give all out during games say this, you have to sit down and listen. Minus of course the "I'm going to the court and hit somebody" part coz that's just pure insanity.

KMart a fugazy? He just made a game sealing three point play and rebound. Now that's mental toughness.

yeah i agree that TT is an overrated player and all....im just saying that every1 is going to be biased with their own fave teams....

Knicks fans are the most critical, knowledgable fans in the NBA. I would expect them before everyone else to see through TT words. I don't think Knicks fans would exactly be praising TT right about now.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting InNETSweTrust:</div><div class="quote_post">

And we cant forget about the defensive play he made on penny the trip before that. That was probably the most important play.

i would like to see tt succeed, i really would. i want a home-town guy to make it big and be a good player. he is from paterson,nj and i would like to see a guy from here make it. he absolutly has beef about complaining about the foul and his teammates not sticking up for him, but he shouldnt make that public. that embarrasses your teammates in the playoff spotlight. it was a HARD FOUL and he should know what a hard foul is if he played in the parks in paterson. but he's making a fool of himself with the comments about how good he thinks he is, when he said if you cant beat someone then hurt them(gimme a break tt, your no td or kg), and comments about kmart.

first off, he started the war vs kmart. it was JASON COLLINS who fouled tt, not kmart. he was already upset at his teammates and upset he got hurt and he saw that kmart was having a good game and was celebrating after his dunks/shots went down. therefore tt took his anger out on kmart. anger makes you say stupid things, has happened to me. so that's why i personally think he attacked kmart.

since tt started it, THEN kmart taped the nypost backpage on his practice jersey. thats only after he also called kmart a fugazy.

bottom line points. TT started this war vs kmart. collins fouled tt, not kmart. tt is making a fool of himself. he has done anything with his career, therefore he really has no right (in the bball world) to talk about other players, it's called respecting your opponents like professionals do. lastly, thursday when he made those comments, he said "we have two games left", so that even shows you that HE knew they would be swept by the nets. that has to hurt if your a knicks fan to read that your guy says they can't even win a game. not like he will play in game 4 to try and get some pride back. see ya next yr mr."tough guy" tim.
