With a logjam at the swingman position in Anderson,Wells, Patterson and PF Wallace,Randolph,Davis. and some dodgy peronalities Stoudamire, Wallace & Patterson
The other problem the Blazers face is that the contracts they have are huge and therefore make Blazers like Sheed and Mighty Mouse hard to trade.
But if I was GM this is what I would do. All these moves pass through realgm.com
Step 1
Trade Wallace to Houston for Kelvin Cato and Mo Taylor This gives the Houston someone to matchup with the Duncans, Malones, Garnetts and Co in the west and also allows the blazers to Use Cato as their starting centre. Davis has 1 year remainging and then may fly the coop therefore Taylor would be a serviceable option as a backup.
Lineup at this stage
Cato/Davis
Randolph/Taylor
Patterson/Woods
Wells/Anderson
Stoudamire/McInnis
Step 2
Trade away Stoudamire to Knicks for Ward, Doleac, Travis Knight. This would be addition by subtraction take away Damons want for the ball and add work ethic and experience in ward and to solid people in Doleac and Knight to provide 6 fouls and a big body both with expiring contracts the Knicks receive a point guard who can play but just needs the right situation.
Lineup at this stage
Cato/Davis/Doleac/Knight
Randolph/Taylor
Patterson/Woods
Wells/Anderson
McInnis/Ward
With this lineup you have potential to go big or small
Big
Cato,Randolph,Taylor,Wells,Anderson
Small
Cato,Randolph,Wells,Anderson,McInnis
And depending on matchups Patterson would be used as a defensive stopper against the other teams top 2 or 3 a role he would relish.
Anderson and Wells could provide matchup troubles if put in the same backcourt with Anderson the primary ballhandler.
But the major thing here is Peronalities and money they would free up $$$ next year with Knight & Wards contracts expiring this year and Wallaces and stoudamires gone they could look to lock in Randolph if he performs. And even look into the Free Agent market and acheive all this whilst still makin the playoffs. As well Davis, & Doleac have only a year to run as does McInnis so they could be used next year as leverage to trade for an upgrade at the Point if mcinnis does not fill the void.
This team would suceed if Randolph was to blossom, Wells could cotinue on his production, Patterson fill a role as a stopper Anderson provide leadership for the second unit. Cato play big and solid D at the 5. All things well within there reach
Let me know your thought of where the Blazers are headed
