For years I've struggled along with many other fans to grasp exactly what kind of offense are we running further what kind of defense is being coached? To often our offense looks like 1 on five and a clear out and "HOPE IT WORKS!" When do we stop blaming the players, the refs, the injuries and focus on the fact that Nate can't freaking coach!?

He's a defensive minded coach right? He gets a ton of praise for what? Last night, just like with Utah, Cavs, Lakers, Grizzle and others it turns into a layup clinic and honestly it's down right embarrassing. Our Blazers cant box out, defend, or even help each other out?

I'm concerned that with the amount of talent we have that our team will never be better than what we could've been. This team needs an offense with sets plays that work and a defense that looks atleast coached. Why is the media not focusing on the painful lack of coaching and preperation? Why is our team starting every game including at home 10-15 down by the second quarter? What are they doing in freaking practice? How many shot clock violations must we endure? Come on........

The buck stops with Nate, and last night was a clear sign he's not earning his paycheck!!

Or maybe last night was a sign that our franchise player is playing at about 25% AND WE PLAYED ARGUABLY ONE OF THE BEST DEFENSIVE TEAMS IN THE LEAGUE!

TEH, don't argue with yardape. Best thing to do is just agree with him or you'll get a reply laced with lots of "Ha!".

Yardape, you're right. I'm glad you noticed that no one else has ever called Nate's coaching ability into question.

Start? We've blamed every coach we've ever had, and Nate is no different.

Funny how the national media never says anything but positives towards Nate and the job he's done. It could be a lot worse, and when Nate is gone, people will realize this...

Not if we get you to coach... ;)

People would really be complaining! And this time, with good reason!!!

Though with the way people talk, they probably think anyone with a pulse would be a better coach than Nate.

Was does "It could be worse" have to do with anything?

You could say the same thing about the Nets FFS.

Nate, to me, is a B coach. He's better than average but not among the league elite. So if we get rid of him, there are only a handful of coaches who can do a better job- and none are available. So unless we have someone better that's available I see no reason to bitch & moan too much.

If Ronald McDillion is the coach just because we can't think of anyone better, he should not be the coach.

I don't think he'll ever take this team farther or to a better record than he did last season.

On top of all of that, if you're going to play this boring take the air out of the ball offense you BETTER fucking win, because it's horrible basketball to watch.

WE have no say in the matter, WE are just talking shit about hoops on a chat site

So you want to live in a specific neighborhood, where there are only 100 lots, all of which are full with houses. You have one of the 15 nicest houses in the neighborhood, but the other 14 houses that are nicer are not for sale... Would you still sell your house because you don't have the best possible one?

We don't have the best coach, but the better coaches are not available, so why would we want to make things worse??

Let's be clear. There are no known good coaches available. I am sure there are some out there, the problem would be identifying them. Good coaches have to come from somewhere. Rick Adelman was a little known assistant before he was hired.

I think it's time for a coaching change. We have talented players, but for some reason or another they are not getting it done. Nate has had his 5 years, bring on a fresh face and a new set of ideas.

I am not so sure about the talent of the players. Some players come into the NBA and are good right away. Some players come in and take a few years to reach their peak level and turn out good. Right now, I am in the wait and see mode, where I think if we are lucky, a player or two out of our current group of young unproven guys will turn out good. By good, I mean players who contribute positivly in a vast majority of the games they play in. Not scoring 25-30 points once every 5 games, and then stinking it up the rest of the time. The best teams run like a machine, every night. You know where your scoring is coming from. You know what you are going to get defensivly from night to night. Right now, I don't think the Blazers with Roy out, know any of that.

There are only what 5 people on this planet who can coach a basketball team better than our guy?

That's absurd.

Yes, I agree. Nate needs to go for this team to take the next step. I'm tired of watching something that never appears to improve in his offense.

I guess my question is, is it really his offense that is doing this? I see plenty of Blazers just flat out failing to do things that they need to nut up and do. Failure to knock down open shots is one of them. Lazy passes. Failing to help a guard who has picked up his dribble. Passing up a good shot. Is that all on the coaches? Is it possible that the coach has the players second guessing themselves so much that they are overthinking the situation? I don't know what it is going on. But the way I look at it, the whole rest of the season should probably be devoted to figuring that out. Right now for the first time in a few years, we have a good set rotation where pretty much everybody should be happy and getting minutes. 2 deep at PG, SG, SF, PF, and center by committee. If they can't get comfortable in a normal rotation where they know they aren't going to get jerked, then I don't know what will get them to that stage.

Now that being said, I see the coaches make plenty of mistakes, all the time. I don't know how many times I am going to watch them not have the best foul shooter take the technical free throws. Or how many times when it is crunch time and we need a good inbound, and Nate uses a short inbounder when you know the other team is going to put size on them to make it tough. But it makes me wonder, what else is he fucking up on? Sometimes you need every point to win.

Well usually when the players don't do what they are supposed to do, it normally falls back on the coach. Atleast if you look back in history, it has turned out that way.

But when they do what they're supposed to and we beat a team by 20, Nate gets none of the creadit from the "Coach McSuxxors" party. So which is it? Coach only gets the blame? Players only get the credit?

Fuck, that's straight bullshit.

The real problem isn't the isolated incidents for me. It's the overall product on the floor and the lack of improvement in certain areas such as offense. There is such a lack of creativity there. And defensively, they lack focus, fire and consistency. But the big problem is offensively, this team isn't growing under him.

I dont blame him for singular losses though. I'm an overall picture sort of chap.

The team played its best ball once NM ran out of choices to make. Last night it was back to the exact same shite that they were playing to open the season. Uninspired and clueless on both sides of the ball.

Wait until we get 2 more players back next year... Full steam ahead cappin!

You say these things, but I'd like to see you name (and defend your selections) for better available coaches.

Everyone is quick to point out how something is less than perfect, but they never seem to have a well thought out solution to making it better.

Yes but the question is, is it because the talent level is growing, or the team is growing? This can easily be attributed to better talent IMO.

The addition of actual talent helps too.

That's not to say that the team hasn't improved under Nate's watch, but it's what he's able to do from this point forward with a mostly well-rounded and talented team that will determine whether or not he belongs long term.

For my part I've gone from a lukewarm Nate supporter, to slightly 'South' of that invisible line between confidence in a coach and his system and thinking that a change might be necessary.

Whatever the case he's probably going to be here for at least one more season (barring a total collapse down the stretch)
