Time to replace my Galaxy Stratosphere ll phone. My wife just got an iphone 5s, but Apple seems to be up to their neck in lawsuits over false claims and anti-Android tactics like losing your texts if you switch back to Android later.

I can get the i5s w/16gb for $99. I can get a Galaxy S4 w16gb for free.

Anyone have opinions of either phone?

I use it mainly for calling and texting, checking my email. Not interested in playing music on it or viewing videos, or using any apps I have to pay for.

The iphone Facetime feature seems it would be very useful when I'm checking out properties for clients who are not with me.

S4 is a firestarter, literally. Stay away from iPhones imo as well. You are paying for the brand. Google (android) has a free App called hangouts, which also offers free video chat. (Just make sure you're on wifi) I like the nexus 5, and a nexus 6 is probably not bad either.

I've had the HTC one for the past two years and have loved it. Will probably upgrade to the s6 soon though

Verizon has the only worthwhile service here in Beautiful Central Oregon due to limited area coverage by all competitors, but my wife brought her iphone home yesterday, made one call, and now it won't call out. She has spent hours on my phone with customer service to no avail.

get one with WiFi calling. Its not available yet on Verizon I believe but will be shortly. It'll help out on those areas where there is poor cell reception but there is a wifi hotspot.

Not sure if the Verizon Galaxy S4 will have it. I have one on Sprint and it does have the Wifi Calling feature.

Go with an iPhone 6+ or a Galaxy Note 4. Get insurance on it and you're good. They are bigger phones but they are great. You can do video calls using google hangouts on Android or Skype.

I guess you can go for a regular Iphone6 or Galaxy S5.

Since all cell phones are made under forced slave labor conditions in 3rd world countries in order to further empower their foriegn corporate tax dodging overlords, I think a REAL american would vow to go phoneless.

Forever.

Real Americans use rotary dial phones.

I haven't had a phone for a couple of months. Haven't posted here either.

The natural life is good.

I was strongly considering the MOTO X, as it was the only phone actually Made In The USA, but Google shut down the factory this year due to overt slavery having been outlawed in America. Apple designs the iphone in the US but that is all they do here. Supposedly they will build macs here in the future but it remains to be seen.

As a Realtor, I am forced to have a cell phone. It is frustrating that the billionaires who own the companies are soul-less, morally-depraved, baby-killing traitors who have never had to work up an actual sweat to be so blessed. I can only hope someday one of them steps off a curb and gets squashed by a gypsy cab.

This is the America that Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush and Obama have created for US.

All I hear from you are excuses as to why you continue to support the sworn enemies of REAL americans.

Clearly, if your job requires you to embolden the evil slave masters of industry, you have chosen a job that places you at WAR with REAL americans. You are the enemy of a free and prosperous country. And I feel sorry for you that you must deal with this self betrayal every time you look in the mirror.

The Billionaires in question are workers' 401K plans and retirement plans.

So, Verizon finally got my wife's iphone5 to work tonight about 9pm. Only took them 3 days. Going to wait a few weeks and see if she has any more issues before I decide what to get.

WHY DIDN'T YOU JUST GO INTO THE VERIZON OR APPLE STORE TO HAVE THEM FIX IT RIGHT THERE?

That's who fucked up setting it up in the first place. And when we got our previous phones there, I actually had to teach the CS guy how his product worked, not the other way around. And I'm no tech-whiz. Most of their help are former car salesmen between jobs and have very little actual technical knowledge.

Maris61 - I think it depends on what you want out of your cell phone and sounds like you use yours like I do, just for basic texting, calling, and a little internet.

The main thing that is important to me is battery/charge life and a good camera. I did a little research and ended up getting a Motorola Turbo. If you plug it in for 15 minutes you have 8 hours of charge. If you fully charge it you have 2 days. Tonight when I get home I'll plug it in for a charge for only the 3rd time since I bought it (on 12/27). The camera is really good too. There's plenty of techy stuff navigation, games, voice activated stuff, etc. The design is very sleek and thin (I got the Red, the Black one doesn't look as good) but sturdy, it's not going to bend like the iPhone. So far this phone is da bomb!

For what you want your phone for, it doesnt really matter. Iphone is more user friendly, but since you are already familiar with galaxy OS then thats not an issue. I would stick with galaxy though for one main reason, app cost. Google play store has tons of apps that are free on droid but cost $0.99 on itunes. Also another feature that I love with my droid is for $40 you can get a replacement battery and charger, I never have to plug my phone in anymore I just swap batteries and if Im going to be away from home for a long time I just bring the extra battery.

Apps. Don't want to pay for them but maybe there are none I need anyway.

I keep hearing that Apple charges for apps while google has free ones. The only apps I'm aware that I use now are a flashlight app, which is free.

I don't listen to music on my phone because no phone can reproduce the already extremely limited tonal range of digital music to satisfactory quality. It's like viewing a great painting through a sheet of polyester film.

I have a gps in my car and most of my photography is with my Nikon.

So, other than music apps, what are some apps you find useful that apple would charge for?

The flashlight app for android is spyware.

Flashlight is built into iPhone/iOS.

I have lots of apps on my phone. I paid for 2 or 3 of them. One being tapatalk when it used to cost money. The other two are health related (cook books).

I had access to my "flashlight" for a while using a non stock launcher, but it is built into 5.0.

To Maris, both android and ios have paid and free apps. My advice would be to play with your wife's phone for the next week or two. If you like the OS, get an iPhone. If not, get an android. Unless you really love how your GS2 worked, look at other manufacturers as well.

Oh, and if you plan on using face time, you'll need an iPhone. If you just mean video chat in general, there are apps that run on both platforms that'd work.

I blame Obama

Stop being cheap, and just get the 64GB Iphone 6/6+ (the storage space is a lot better for the money). Its easy to use versus Android and you probably don't do much on the phone anyways besides video chat, emailing photo, light email and all that shit. Don't get the 16GB

Off the top of my head, I use my phone for

  • Rarely voice calls
  • Text messaging instead of calls
  • Www browsing when away from the computer
  • Camera
  • Music player
  • Flashlight
  • NBA LP
  • Email
  • Monitor my exercise
  • Calculator
  • Buy movie tickets
  • Pay for Starbucks
  • My case is a wallet that holds a debit card, house key, and drivers license (grab and go)
  • As a notepad
Probably more, but this was off the top of my head.

Regardless of the audiophile bias against digital music, spotify plays high quality audio through ear buds, which is fine for when I go for a walk/run. Better than nothing.m lots better.

My phone I use the most:

Sirius XM for the car
Waze for Navigation
Gmail
Dropbox to access all of my files
Google Plus for auto photo backup
PocketCasts for listening to Podcasts
Hangouts for instant messaging
Evernote for taking notes
Instagram
Facebook
Twitter
HTC RE: companion app for my HTC Camera
Whatsapp for "texting" internationally
Airline apps for checking in and e-boarding passes

If you have to email and receive documents like PDFs, need to sign stuff while mobile, I'd suggest getting a Galaxy Note 4. In real estate, I'd imagine that would be helpful.
