Heres a little backround on hanukah from guys on my forums<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>818 Ballers wrote: It's 8 days long (represnting the 8 days that the oil lasted). First night one candle, then you add another one each day afterwards (light each using the middle candle of the Hannukiah). Kids get a present each day of the holiday. Play games like Dreidel for gelt (spelling?), or gold coins, and you eat lots of potato pancankes (latkes). I think I covered most of it...any Jewish people on the site feel free to correct any mistakes. 818Ballers pretty much nailed it but without historical context. It basically started when the Jews had only enough oil for 1 night because the Babylonians had taken all their stuff and killed many people. But when they lit the menorah it is said that God created a miracle that allowed the oil to last for 8 days. On Channukah you have a menorah which holds 8 candles that signify each day that the oil lasted and you take the middle candle and you go from left to right (forgot why you do that, although I'd assume that is how the Jews did it years ago). As said by 818, you get a present every day and play dreidel for gelt which is basically chocolate wrapped in gold foil. The latkes is probably the best part of Channukah. If you have good ones you'll know what I'm talking about. My family usually doesn't play dreidel or any of that stuff because we aren't really that religious and it is usually something little children do, and we have kind of faded out of doing gifts every night.</div>
