God bless all those Russian dash cams. That is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Hopefully nobody was hurt.

More exciting than I have pictured it all my life. A space capsule leaves a smoky trail above a certain altitude, say 200,000 feet, but descends the rest of the way invisibly, as seen from a distance. That's why after the meteorite's trail ends, a dramatic minute passes before the explosion.

It's awesome only 700 people hurt. I hear 30 hospitalized.

Armageddon.

They say it's not related to the asteroid passing by today.

That too was my first thought! What are the odds? Can you imagine how terrified people would be if astronomers had gotten that wrong?

They did get it wrong, they're just not telling us about it.

Meanwhile, MARIS61 is wearing his tin foil hat and hiding in a cave somewhere today.

So it's like any other day?

Crazy video. Fun to watch it burn up.

I have to say, if I was driving along and I saw that thing coming in with the tail of fire, I'd think the world was ending. That thing looked huge.

3 things.....

1-I was loving the Russian techno music

2-That was probably some of the coolest video I've ever seen

3-Tell these commi bastards to turn there cameras the correct way when recording video!

I agree, and that really makes me wonder, what would a REAL world ending meteor look like?

The Russia meteor is the largest reported since 1908, when a meteor hit Tunguska, Siberia. The meteor entered the atmosphere at about 40,000 mph (18 kilometers per second). The impact time was 7:20:26 p.m. PST, or 10:20:26 p.m. EST on Feb. 14 (3:20:26 UTC on Feb. 15), and the energy released by the impact was in the hundreds of kilotons.

Based on the duration of the event, it was a very shallow entry. It was larger than the meteor over Indonesia on Oct. 8, 2009. Measurements are still coming in, and a more precise measure of the energy may be available later. The size of the object before hitting the atmosphere was about 49 feet (15 meters) and had a mass of about 7,000 tons.

50 feet wide, that's it? Hundreds of kilotons........ it looks like it only took a chunk out of that building though.

IIUC, that chunk of the building collapsed from the shock wave from the explosion. I saw a pic somewhere of a hole in the ice on a lake, supposedly that's where the biggest piece landed...

Those Communist bastards should have seen it coming!

If you watch that video really closely, you can see a tiny capsule inside the meteorite.

Folks: Superman has arrived.

(Or should I say: Cynep yenobek npnexan)

...maybe it was show down?! :dunno:
