Tony Parker avaiable: Spurs lookin for a good draft pick?

Batum is better than anything the Spurs will get with a lottery pick in this suck draft.

Lets trade our Frenchy for their Frenchy!

I don't think the 21st pick counts as "good" unfortunately.

I think it depends on how good of a draft pick they want. I'm sure we could probably acquire one in the mid-to-late lottery.

San Antonio has a consistent philosophy of rebuilding on the run; they are not blowing it up but are preparing for the end of the Tim Duncan era. I believe they are aiming for Jonas Valanciunas, who some have described as a franchise center; I personally believe in three years he will be the best player to come out of this draft. I wish that Portland could figure out how to snag him; if Oden/Roy don't pan out we will wish that we were rebuilding on the run. I think Portland could get him but they would lose the assets that they apparently plan to trade for a PG.

The price for Parker is steep right now:

STEIN_LINE_HQ: San Antonio, as I hear it, wants to attach Richard Jefferson to any Tony Parker deal. Can't see that appealing to Raps. Or Kings. Or ...

Lots of money, but since we would be dealing Batum, we would need another wing player anyway?

Dre and Nic for TP and RJ? A third team with capspace would have to be involved.

That's about even talent wise, but I'd just hate giving up Nic

I don't want Parker. He has no outside shot. He's one of the more overrated players in the league, imo.

Oh Wow, I disagree. I think Parker is one of the better PG in the league. I also think a change of scenery may do him wonders.

Am I the only one who would prefer George hill (who is apparently also being shopped) over Parker, even straight up? Hill is cheaper, younger, a better defender and shooter, and reportedly has a lower asking price.

Parker is an old 29 and he's had more than a few injuries, so while technically hes younger, I have to wonder just how much? If miller could continue to give you solid, yet unspectacular production for 2 more yrs and then retired - how many more good yrs after that could parker give us? My gut says not that many more, whereas Hill probably has another 7-10 yrs left in him...

HE'S who I'd like to see us go after, and it's not close...

I agree, and I assumed San Antonio would as well. If Hill is being shopped, then yes, I think he would be a preferable target.

That said, one thing Parker has over Hill is significant playoff (read: championship) experience--something this team could definitely use.

I wouldnt be surprised to see Duncan retire. If so, do you think the Spurs start to "retool" and might look at trading their best asset in T.Parker? Parker and Batum are buddies. Wasnt there a rumor that Parker told Roy he'd like to play in Portland?

You might have wanted to hint to people that you just resurrected a year old thread. Who the hell knows what San Antonio is going to do with Parker after he had a near MVP level season. Trading him is possible, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I'm not a babysitter, they can see the date of the thread themselves.
The Spurs have been rumored to be shopping Parker before, so it sounds like they've considered it and might consider it again.

I'd gladly trade the 11 for him, maybe the 6 but I'd have to think about it. What would the Spurs want? Quite a bit I'd imagine since he's their best asset.

Parker is a great PG today but I'm concerned how he'll age in the next few years. I think our timeline is more to peak in about two years but Parker might already decline by then. A team closer to contending right now might be a better trade partner. It just comes down to how much we have to give up for Parker.

Another idea is to try to acquire Ginobili. If the Spurs want to rebuild around Parker they might let him go for much much cheaper. If the price was right I'd consider him a shorter term option and maybe it would give us the roster to make a legit sales pitch to Deron.

Better hope the Lakers don't grab him throwing Sessions and Gasol their way.....

Duncan has already said he's going to re-sign with the Spurs.

I highly doubt Popovich wants anything to do with Gasol.

I disagree. Gasol is EXACTLY the kind of player Pop would like. People act like Gasol is a big wuss but he's not. He's the best post player in basketball and his defense is pretty damn solid. He was just totally frozen out of that "offense" in LA. I think Pop would LOVE to get Gasol. It would be no downgrade from Duncan (as he is now).

Well he's a serviceable 7 footer too and Timmy is getting old. 7 footers with skill don't grow off trees as Blazers fans know with Oden. Further if they trade Parker they'll need a PG.

Actually he said he was "a Spur for life". Which is totally consistent with him retiring.

I heard in an interview that he's not going to even look at other teams for offers this off season, he'll only negotiate with the Spurs because he's a Spur for life.

Bet you a beer he doesn't retire.

If they brought in Gasol and had Timmy it would extend Timmy's life another two years in the NBA.....

living down here Duncan is expected to sign another deal for 2-3 more years, then most likely retire. as SPD said, he's not interested in even talking to other teams. Doubt they blow this team up by trading #5 vote getter in the race for MVP this season.
