The real question is, what could be done with Turner? In a vacuum, I would say just pay his contract and tell him to take a vacation until you can trade him. But, that would kill Olshey's credibility with other free agents, so I can't imagine it happening. Is there any other scenario out there other than making him the leader of the second unit, trying to build around him, and praying?

better than many of you attribute to him, The contract is bad, but if he is released or sitting at the end of the bench then we are getting absolutely zero from him. There is also a good possibility he will play much better next year.

I know you prefer the eye test to some of the more comprehensive advanced stats, yet somehow you seem fond of Evan Turner. Does Evan Turner not fail your eye test?

(Preemptively, I'll say it would be better to get zero from him than to watch another season of his terrible tunnel vision or errant passes that he blames on the receiver or that shot or that "post up game" lol or those turnovers, etc)

I'd just take a year of positive BPM or average efficiency from Turner. It'll probably never happen.

I think ET is an ok player. Three strikes overpaid for what he brings to the table, the system doesn’t utilize his skill set at all, oh and his skill set is a net negative in that system.
I didn’t understand the signing then or now but it sounds like Neil is not letting it go so they should try to figure out how to play to his strengths if they are gonna have him on the court.

@Reep - your math and estimation of what we can pay Baldwin is wrong.
We will have Early Bird Rights, which allows up to 105% of the Average Salary (or MLE). This will be approximately $9M. Portland will be able to pay Baldwin more than any team that does not use CAP SPACE to sign him (if they choose to).

EDIT: Apparently it was Reep instead of Hoopsjock that insinuated that we could only pay $6.5M.

I did a quick look up of average salary at 6.2M. If it goes up to 9M then that definitely helps, but still leaves a window for another team to top us. However if that difference is close, then I would hope WB would remain.

After re-reading this, it appears that the two are not necessarily tied together. But he projects early bird rights to be worth more than the MLE this summer.
