He isn't the fastest and wouldn't be that great at other sports most likely.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Barry SandersLance ArmstrongMichael JordanJim ThorpeJesse Owens.</div>I like this list, I might throw in Bo Jackson too. That man was a beast. He hurt his knee in college and sat out a few games, people called him a wuss. He wasn't, he just didn't want to damage his career by further hurting his knee. Then in one of his last college football games, he broke his rib and kept playing, then he broke his other rib and still kept playing. He played pro baseball and football and was good at it, he was a monster.

If Babe Ruth is an athlete, I'm Michael Jordan. I wouldn't call maurice richard a great athlete, hell yeah was he a great skater, but athelete, idk. Not enough to 'rocket' him up into my top 5..

Wasn't there an american-indian athlete like a hundred years ago who was an unbelievable athlete? I rember hearing about him?

Alright, for this thread, I meant players. We could go athletes though, and I'll throw in Amare and the young stars of today's NBA.

Gretzky is the only one I might have.Bird? Give me a break and get off his cock.Ortiz? No way he is a top 5 athlete!LT 2? So he is more mobile and quick that Barry Sanders?Artest? Wowzers.

1. Michael Jordan2. Babe Ruth3. Jerry Rice4. Tiger Woods5. David Beckham

Athletes:1. Bo Jackson. I dont know how anybody could POSSIBLY argue this one. I guess a lot of you werent around in his day. Bo played 2 sports at an EXTREMELY high level and was regarded as a top player in both sports.2. Jordan. Nuff said.3. Jim Thorpe.4. Carl Lewis5. Barry Sanders.Skills:1. Tiger. Even Jordan didnt dominate basketball as much as Tiger dominates golf.2. Jordan3. Roger Federer. Has literally dominated the tennis world for the past 3 or so years. Compared to Tiger as far as domination of his sport. May end up passing Jordan on my list. He is still young.4. Gretzky. The greatest. For now. 5. Barry Sanders. The most skilled running back ever. May be passed by LT. Not yet though.Toughest:1. Favre. 2. Gordie Howe. The man played at a professional level in 5 different decades.3. Ali4. Jack Lambert. 5. Cal Ripken Jr. Yeah, I know. He played baseball. But to play in 2,000+ consecutive games in ANY sport on ANY level is ridiculous.6. Tyson.

Look at rugby players, a rougher version of football with virtually no pads.

I had Barry Sanders there and he replaced him with LT. Which I see no problem with.

In no order..MJBo JacksonGriffey Jr. (in 90's)Mike Vick (not that great of a player, but hell of an athleteBarry Sanders

Narrowing this down to 5 will be tough, but here go's...1. Michael Jordan2. Wayne Gretzkey3. Jerry Rice4. Rickey Henderson5. Wilt ChamberlainHonorable Mention:Roger Federer, Tiger Woods, Rhonaldinio (sp?)

1) Michael Jordan-There won't be another one in the sport of basketball. Epitimy of what an athlete should be.2) Muhammid Ali-The man talked the talk and walked the walk. Also a hero for not only African-Americans but for humans in general.3) Tiger Woods-It took the greatest golfer before him, Jack Nickalus, 23 years to win 18 majors. It took Tiger 9 years to win 12. He will surpass Nickalus with most majors by a long shot. Most consistently good athlete in a sport where consistency is scarce. Tiger is the greatest golfer of all time, period4) Babe Ruth Could do it all on the baseball field and partied all night long after it was all over. Ate, drank, smoked and was the best baseball player of his generation. You can't not respect the Babe.5 "Babe" Didrikson Zaharias The greatest female athlete of all-time. Could play any sport and do it well. Won three medals (2 gold, 1 silver) in hurdling, javelin throw, and high jump at the 1932 olympics. Was a member of an AAU Championship basketball team in 1931. Founding member of the LPGA, won 17 straight amateur golf events, a feat not even Tiger Woods could master. Also competed at the 1938 Los Angeles Open on the PGA tour, no woman would try that for another 6 decades when Sorenstan did it. Also played amateur baseball.

hmmm, not quite sure what type of athlete people were looking for but the list has been very much based in America and North American sports. What about Paavo Nurmi, Michael Johnson or Emil Zatopec?Mark Spitz or Michael Phelps?Franz Beckenbauer or Marco Van Basten? There are hundreds more, I just think the tpix needs to be more specific.

I'm not going to make a list, but so far no mention of Dave Winfield. He was the only person ever to be drafted into four professional sport leagues (ABA, NBA, MLB, NFL).
