Pats - Colts are a legendary game away from being a great rivalry. Right now, they've got the legendary players whose names need no explaining.

Yanks/soxDuke/UNCMichigan vs Ohio StateLakers vs Celticsdont know whoelse

In no order:1)England vs Australia (cricket, I've seen a couple of matches now, Cricket is confusing)2)Ferrari vs Porsche (racing)3)USC vs Notre Dame (22 National Championships and 14 Heismans between them)4)Lakers vs Celtics (30 f*cking NBA Championships, 47 conference titles, 53 division titles and over 5,000 regular season victories between them)5) About a million different soccer rivalries from all over the world, I don't know all of them though.P.S. Yankees vs Red Sox is the most overhyped and overrated rivalry in all of sports. I don't get the hype.

you cant see how deep it is unless you're from Boston or New York..it isnt really the teams rivalry..it's the New York vs Boston rivalry

Ohio State vs. Michigan is the biggest rivalry in college football and debated as the biggest rivalry in American sports (I know all you guys love the Yankee and Red Sox rivalry, but that is getting less and less intense as the years go by. College football is becoming more and more popular as well. In fact, some places, like ESPN has voted Ohio State and Michigan as the number one rivalry in American sports). Now, I am not going to say Ohio State and Michigan is the biggest rivalry in American sports, but I tend to think so, since I hate baseball and think it is really boring and I love college football and Ohio State. As for the best rivalry in sports, it has to be some soccer rivalry outside of the U.S. Those things are crazy.

How is the Sox/Yanks rivalry getting less intense? I don't want to hear about any ESPN poll, that's not scientific by any means.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Justice @ Dec 13 2006, 09:39 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>How is the Sox/Yanks rivalry getting less intense? I don't want to hear about any ESPN poll, that's not scientific by any means.</div>I didn't say the ESPN poll said the rivalry was getting less intense, I said that. This isn't the 1920s anymore, there are far more things to do in this world sport wise than watch pro baseball and most of them are more exciting (true, that part is more of a personal opinion). But the fact is, baseball isn't America's favorite sport anymore, it is slowly starting to take the back seat to football. It is only a matter of time before the Sox and Yankees lose their flare for the best rivalry. Besides, the sport of football brings more to the table for a heated rivalry, I mean, a sport where the players can actually take some one's head off, that brings up a lot of angry feelings. Baseball is no where near the physical contact level of football and that can't be debated. Do I have any proof that the Red Sox and Yankees are losing their intensity, no, that was an opinion statement. But football is starting to take hold and become America's number one sport, if it hasn't already, and so in that manner, the Red Sox and Yankees are losing their intensity.By the way, it wasn't a poll. It was an article. And here it is: Here. And here is where the two rivalries were ranked in the article:<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>7. Red Sox vs. YankeesSome say this is merely a media creation, and it's somewhat true, since the two teams have rarely battled head-to-head for the pennant. But, remember this: the Red Sox were the American League's dominant franchise until selling Babe Ruth to the Yankees. Red Sox fans have yet to fully recover. The rivalry has seen the DiMaggio vs. Williams debate, Bucky F****** Dent's home run and Roger Clemens' return to Fenway.</div><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>1. Michigan vs. Ohio StateWhen Ohio Stadium opened in 1922, Michigan spoiled the party with a 22-0 victory. The rivalry was heated in the early days as both have been long-time college football powers. But it got even hotter in 1969, when Bo Schembechler took over as Michigan's coach and upset Woody Hayes' No. 1-ranked, undefeated Buckeyes. Four times in the next six years, both teams were ranked in the top five when they met. In 1970 and 1973, both were undefeated (they tied 10-10 in '73). From 1970 through 1975, Michigan entered without a loss every year. The Wolverines won just once. Ohio State was 9-0-1 in 1993, 11-0 in 1995 and 10-0 in 1996. The Buckeyes lost each time. That is rivalry.</div>Now, I am not saying that Michigan/OSU is the better rivalry, although I personally think so, but I am saying I am not the only one that thinks so. No offense to you or anything but on an overall stand point, I respect your opinons and agree with them 90% of the time, but I would usually go for what ESPN says before I go for what you say.

You misread my statement.I don't care if it's a poll or an article. An article is written by a person. I don't even know what you have to disagree about... I just said that I don't understand how the rivalry is getting less intense. Saying that the Yankees/Red Sox rivalry is overhyped and then citing ESPN is hypocritical. ESPN is the main source in the world of sports hype. Michigan and OSU have had great matchups, and so have the Red Sox and Yankees. Many other teams have as well. That's opinion, but if you look at what the Red Sox and Yanks have been doing over the past 10 years or so, I don't know how anybody could say it's getting less intense. If anything, it's getting more intense.

Army vs Navy in college football is big to both branches, even though Navy keeps destroying Army, it's still huge.

The Sox were down 3-0 to the Yankees in the AL championship series, then came back to win four in a row and take the series. They went on to sweep the Astros and break the so-called curse of the Bambino. There's also that brawl they had a few years back, if you saw the picture earlier in the thread.edit: those are just a couple examples, not everything I could possibly findedit2: here's a very long article about it... link. The Gary Sheffield thing is pretty good, too.

How is the Sox/Yanks rivalry getting less intense?!?!?! If anything, it has got more intense. Red Sox coming back from 3-0 to go on and win the World Series. Aaron Boone game winning home run in the ALCS. The rivalry is getting better and better.

1.) UNC/Duke2.) Yankees/Red Sox3.) Michigan/Ohio State4.) Redskins/Cowboys5.) Lakers/Celtics (Kinda lost it's fuse over the years, but still they put up pretty good games versus eachother.)

1. The BEST rivalry of all!!! EAST AND THE WEST!!!! 2. Nuggets and Cavs (mostly Anthony and James)3. Celtics and Lakers 4. Maple Leafs and Canadiens (NHL)5. Yankees and the Red Sox

I'm just saying, because the Lakers and Celtics don't have that fuel of fire and hate like they once had, even though some is still there; but look at the Red Sox and Yankees rivalry, and it's still running strong between the two for the power of the AL East.
