Dunderheads of America don't even care about this ruling, and what it means on net neutrality in terms of charging services via ISP. It won't make ABC/CBS/NBC until it actually starts impacting ISP bills.

Well, I had an argument with Denny a few weeks ago where I said this mattered and he said it didn't. If I understand you we are on the same side here, so maybe I'll leave it to Denny to bite on this.

It's not going to affect anyone's ISP bills. If anything, it's going to keep them from increasing as much as they would have otherwise. What consumers will see in price hikes are the fees for Netflix or whatever other streaming services.

I noticed a 4K TV on sale at Costco the other day. (http://www.engadget.com/2013/11/12/hisenses-4k/). The picture is stunning, and 4K is surely the next big thing, like HDTV was. The problem with 4K is that they won't be making little shiny discs to sell movies on. They're going to be streamed. And Netflix is going to be one of the first companies to offer 4K video streaming (already announced).

Even if Netflix puts a bank of video servers in every ISP's (Comcast, TWC, etc.) cities and directly on their networks, all that streaming data is going to flood their infrastructure to get to peoples' homes. They have to build out their infrastructures to support the demand for these streams and someone has to pay for it.

The alternatives could be much worse. Not only could/should the ISPs charge higher fees, but they could seriously pursue charging by the byte, like cellular data plans. And that would suck.
