IMO You can't combine the sports in a list, you have to make 3 different lists.. and I'm honestly not up for doing that now, I will later after thinking about it more.

I don't think he is a top 5 receiver, and I definately don't think he is a top 5 player in the NFL. Marvin Harrison is good for shredding some of the worse defense's in the league, and the less physical defenses. However, against the more physical defenses with the more physical corners, Harrison is not the same, especially come playoff time. He is pushed off his route easier than Smith, Holt, C. Johnson, A. Johnson and Owens are by the physical cornerbacks. That whole offense works off timing, and route running, so when he is pushed off his route Manning doesn't know where to throw it when he goes through his progressions and Harrison is not where he is supposed to be.

I have a hard time saying LaDianian Tomlinson is the best player in sports. He's the best at his position, and yes it's hard to put some positions over others...but for me to put a RB in front of an elite QB...thats pretty tough for me to do.

Pujols is the best offensive player in baseball and one of the more consistant fielders (for a 1st baseman anyway)...nobody has his presence at the plate.

I'd personally go with Larry Johnson or Stephen Jackson.</div> I like Stephen Jackson, I'd like to see his yards per carry go up but that has a lot to do with the offensive line and really isn't his fault. His pass catching ability is really underrated, he's been a great reciever this season. I think people don't give DT's enough respect on top 10 lists. It's hard to put the positions together to form a list but great DT's have a huge impact, Tommie Harris is probably the best DT in football and it's no coincidence that when he went out the Bears defense became vulnerable. (OG/OT's were better able to jam linebackers and the whole defense is never the same, having a bull like Harris take on double teams while creating a pass rush was huge and the key to the Bears defense) It's just too easy to put offensive stars up really high on the list because they score the TD's. You could really put guys like Shawne Merriman in your top 7.

Thats why I prefer to do defensive and offensive lists because it's difficult to gauge who has more of an impact than who. For all we know Tommy Harris could be in the top ten, but many people would hesitate to put him there because they don't know how the impact he has on the game stacks up with the offensive players. Thats also why I think you see most/all offensive players int he top ten lists because they score the points.

Defensive linemen get sh*t for credit. People like Dwight Freeney, Richard Seymour, etc., they get doubled on a play by play basis, so they never get the sacks (which is why you see guys like Robert Mathis and Jarvis Green's sack numbers go so high up). Guys like them are so underrated but yet they never can come up in these talks because they don't put up the numbers.

The defensive line can get sacks from time to time which gets them noticed. The linebackers get sacks and interceptions. Cornerback and Safeties get the best chance for Interceptions, as well as safeties often times can get seen for the biggest hits on the field. Harrison is a very very good reciever, I may have overrated him a bit at 4 or 5 or w/e I put him at, but Wayne IMO is overrated. He benefits from Marvin being doubled and Peyton as his QB. Valo is right though in the sense that his recievers get overrated.
