Rumor Total Solar Eclipse of the Heart

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

Whoa, just got a camping spot at the new Stubbs campground! Not in the eclipse totality but stopped by their on a recent trip to the coast and the views should be amazing.

AAAARRRGGGGHHHHHHH!! I love fire! The campfire is the best part of camping.

Effective Wednesday, Aug. 16, all Oregon State Parks will restrict open flames and campfires, including fires on all Oregon beaches. Briquettes, tiki-style torches and candles are also prohibited until further notice. Only fuel sources that can be turned off instantly, such as propane stoves and propane fire pits, will be allowed.

Most state parks are already under a fire restriction due to hot, dry conditions and precautions issued by county or local fire officials. We are expanding the ban to all state parks in order to prevent accidental fires leading up to the Aug. 21 solar eclipse. We want to avoid creating new problems for fire crews that are already responding to several large fires.

We understand this is an inconvenience for campers, especially those who might not see an immediate local need for fire restrictions. We ask for your patience and understanding during what we hope is a brief restriction. Updated information is available by phone M-F, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. at 800-551-6949.

Thanks for the tip. We bought them way in advance, so we wouldn't have to run around at the last moment. Here we are....

...got a $1 pair at the local eye doctor here in Albany, they seem to have an endless supply AND if you return them they will give you a free 1oz spray bottle of glasses cleaner -OR- 20% transition lenses!

Dang. How the heck are they making money doing that? Seems like a great deal. Well, they must be going for the repeat customers/build the customer base. That's a really great idea on how to do it.....

...not sure, but they have been advertising the $1 eclipse glasses for several months now and if anything it is great marketing because the glasses themselves are printed like a co-branded billboard ad for the doctor's office and eclipse event.

I'm more interested seeing the traffic jammed freeways, roads and nerdy freaks getting owned by inconvienience more than the Eclipse itself

We have a party going on all weekend at our place. A few couples camping out in the yard. Shit could be cray-cray, but we're considered to be in "the path".

I was gonna go up to Oregon but the airfares liked got expensive as fuck, so I'm going to Vegas instead.

Sounds like traffic is already getting crazy in Central Oregon, some gas stations are running out of gas, and the Costco in Bend is already selling out of stuff.

Sounds like traffic is already backed up for 30+miles on 26 near Salam.

Just bought the last Propane Fire Ring in town.

$79.99 on Amazon.

$99.99 at Next Adventure.

Sold me the store display model for $49.99.

Score!

I got some from Fry's. Have no idea if they are legit or not. Hopefully Fry's has seen what Amazon just did and check to make sure theirs are safe.

Let me get this straight.

You bought glasses that are supposed to prevent your eyes from frying from a store called Fry's????

Yeah, im sure they are legit and certified....

Forecast for apoc-eclipse tomorrow is cloudy here in Chucktown. Please God, don't obscure this once in a lifetime show!

I've read that even the certified shades don't make you immune from eye damage. I have a pair, but now im scared to even use them. I figure I'll start by doing the out-of-the-corner-of-my-eye attempt...

Just wrote a children's story as something special for the solar eclipse for my son, called The Sun Did Not Come Out. Its about a boy playing hide and seek with the sun.

The Sun Did Not Come Out

At dawn, Taran awoke to a bright light, and he looked outside his window to see the sun.

“Would you like to play a game?” asked the sun.

“How about hide and go seek,” replied Taran.

“My favorite,” said the sun. “Now close your eyes and count to ten.”

Taran hid his face in the crevice of his arm, which sat cozily on the window sill and began to count. “1…2…3…4…”

“No peaking,” said the sun.”

Taran smiled and pushed his face further into the shade of his arm.

“5…6…7…8…9…10. Ready or not here I come,” said Taran loudly, lifting his face and looking to where the sun had been. There was something different than it had been before, and it took a moment for Taran to put his finger on what it was. It was dark again. The bright friendly sun was no longer looking down at him from its place high in the sky. It had gone, and in its place was the moon, which giggled slightly, but otherwise remained a quite spectator.

Taran, discovering he was a bit cold, thought it time to search for the sun, who he knew was a very good hider.. He went outside and looked behind the tree by his window.

“Are you there?” he asked, but when he looked there was nothing there. The sun did not come out.

Next Taran decided to look under a rather large rock. He lifted it, “aha, I’ve found you! He said excitedly, but again there was nothing there. The sun did not come out.

Then Taran decided to look on the other side of the hill past the tree and the rock. “I know you are there behind the hill,” yelled Taran. But, when he got to the top and looked, he saw only the other side. The sun did not come out.

Taran was perplexed. He wondered where the sun could be hiding. “Olly, olly oxen free!” he yelled, cupping his hands to his mouth.

Then a sudden movement in the sky caught his eye, as the sun moved from behind the moon.

“I am here,” said the sun. “I have been here all along.”

“What a perfect hiding place,” said Taran smiling.

“What game shall we play next,” asked the sun.

“How about tag, suggested Taran mischievously, “your it.”
