He was his usual streaky self last year. This year after a slow start he has been really good for a long stretch, full credit there. Maybe that is a sign of things to come. .75 ppg equals 61 points over 82 games. His career high is 53, so a little better, but again not a stud dominant guy.

He is not a 7 mill per + player. And I think the opposite. If Gorton was willing to give him over 7 mill per he'd be signed already. Not sure why one would think if he isn't dealt by the day before the trade DL that means he won't be dealt, not following that logic when most big deals happen up against a DL.

Truth be told, I think it is a coin toss whether he is here or gone at 3 PM tomorrow. I do feel he will not get a deal that starts with a 7 as his AAV from Gorton. I also feel he is either signed or dealt by 3 tomorrow. I don't see them keeping him without a new deal.

We'll see.

Av's don't have a good pool of prospects at all. We don't need any d or goalies. They said they aren't giving up Newhook or their top d man prospect. So all they have is Kaut who is nothing special and Bowers. They aren't a match IMO at all. More I think about it, why trade for Trochek if you are keeping Strome. Makes no sense. Skjei needs to be a salary dump with no salary coming back. Carolina was a match for us with their forward prospects and a deal was done.

Give it up dude. Kreider is being signed and your opinion on him sucks moose dick. His screens in front probably lead to about 40 goals a year. So take 40 points on to his totals and you see what he means to the team.

He may be signed, I think it could go either way. I will be fine with him being signed if the deal is reasonable and starts with a 6. And please stop the nonsense now of giving him more points because he screens, that's a joke. As if he's the only player in the NHL to do that.

You should focus your energy on making up 700 trades that never happen. Or liking Quinn, and every coach, and then hating them and blaming them for everything two weeks later, then asking for them to be fired. Or liking Skjei, and then wanting him traded. Or liking Trouba as what we need, and then wanting him traded. Focus on that, not judging other peoples opinions.

I also rather have Trocheck than Strome. Doubt the deal happens, but saw it mentioned in a few places. Strome may be a guy we let walk if we can add another C. He will want a deal in the 5's or 6's also I'd think.

Either way I do think Gorton does something. It would surprise me if we did nothing.

Fuck off. Your Kreider hatred got old 2 years ago. You are obviously too stupid to realize that almost nobody in the league can be a net front presence like Kreider. He's elite at it. If you don't think his screens in front make a huge difference, you should be horsewhipped. Zibanejad alone has about 10 goals that went in because Kreider totally screened the goalie.

More I think about it, why trade for Trochek if you are keeping Strome. Makes no sense.

I think Strome to Trocheck would be an upgrade, and his contract situation is better. I doubt we can resign Strome for under 5m given his current salary. If strome would take a short-term deal maybe, but in that case I'd rather have Trocheck for 2 more years at 4.75m, along with whatever we get back for Strome in a trade.

We saw how Strome looked without Panarin early in the year. It wasnt pretty. I'd trade Strome while his value is high this offseason if we can find a better 2C replacement. Trocheck fits that bill. But these may be draft time moves. I could be wrong but I dont see that kind of shake up coming given where the team is now.

Nobody is going to buy into Strome without Panarin. For whatever reason, Strome works well with Panarin. Guys to move or buyout are Skjei, Staal Smith and Hank. Those are the moves to make. I'd rather have Trochek to Strome but we need to dump some salary to sign Kreider, Fast, Strome and TDA. Skjei and Staal are logical choices. Staal I think has helped the kids but they do need to dump some salary here.

Right, but Strome is an RFA this year. Currently making 3.1m. Where do you think his next deal comes in? You going to give him a raise while also giving Kreider and ADA raises? I sure wouldnt.

I'd trade his rights this offseason and get a guy with a contract situation like Trocheck, 2 more years at $4.75m. Not so sure nobody will buy into Strome without Panarin, his versatility to play C and wing is another plus. But say you package him with Hajek and you can target a LD replacement for Skjei who is blocked somewhere.

For example, Calgary is looking for forward depth and Strome can slot in anywhere. Hanifin is blocked behind Giordano and has a better contract than Skjei.

Why not Skjei for Trocheck, then Strome and Hajek for Hanifin. Not saying these specific players, but these types of trades.

Again, I think these are draft time trades. I dont see this kind of shake up given where the team is now. I think the move right now is to resign Kreider if possible. If we can get him signed I wouldnt be surprised if our only move is a cap dump like Smith to someone who needs help on D.

It would surprise me if all we do is sign Kreider and then stand pat. I think we'll do something, but maybe we won't. Maybe if we do sign Kreider and can get him to agree to a reasonable deal in the 6's, Gorton will say let's roll the dice with the current team and maybe we slip in and worst case get some experience for the kids (either in the playoffs or playing meaningful games down the stretch).

Dump, looks like your coming around to my thinking on trouba that despite his physicality is just not only a defensive liability but lately is a human penalty. How many interference calls does he commit before Quinn sits him for a bit. That, chuck is our bad contract right now besides hank of course.

Come on man. There is exactly 1 defenseman in the NHL right now with 150 shots and 150 hits, and his name is Jacob Trouba. He also has over 100 blocks. He plays the PP. He plays the kill. He plays against first lines. Hes our biggest defenseman. He's our meanest defenseman. He's our hardest shooting defenseman. He does it all and we started paying him at 25, not at 28 or 29. It's easy to nitpick a guy's game who is out there playing 26 mins against top lines every night, but I am thankful we have him.

If he was perfect, never took a bad penalty, and never got beat, we wouldnt have been able to get him for what we did. Guys like that arent available for a first and Neil Pionk.

Disagree on this dude. His turnover numbers are right around those for Fox, ADA and Skjei, and Trouba has played 100 more minutes than each of them against way tougher matchups. He's also second on the team in takeaways. I'm not saying he's perfect, I said when we got him his skating is not good enough to recover when he's out of position. But on the balance I have no problem with him at 8m per for ages 25-32. If he wasnt back there, this defense would be getting absolutely bodied. He's what McIlrath was supposed to be.

He didn't say. I think he was offering his opinion. To me I think this is 100% a coin flip because I don't know if Kreider will be reasonable to stay a Ranger, or if he wants a mega 7 mill + per deal, otherwise he will test the FA waters this summer. Not sure where his head is at. I think the ball may be in Kreider's court.

Rangers obviously looking closer to 6M and Kreider’s camp wants over 7M. If he gets moved by the deadline then obviously they couldn’t close the gap. However, if he doesn’t get dealt and an extension is not done, that is a good indicator both sides feel they can resolve before July 1st.

I think the ball has always been in Kreider's court. If he wants to get paid, he'll hit free agency and will get paid. If he wants to leave some money on the table and play here, he will. Gorton has his number and likely isnt budging. Just like the Panarin negotiation. We can only go so high. Take it from us, or take a little more from someone else.

That's not always the case. A lot of times the team bends and meets the players ask. I don't think that is the case here. The Rangers won't go into the 7's for him I don't believe (and rightfully so). Just like Panarin as you mentioned.

I dont think there was ever a chance both years and money would be 7. Sounds like he's content to get a higher AAV now for a year less, and potentially get one last 1 or 2 year contract after this one. That's his smart play in my humble opinion.

If it's 6 years and not 7, $7m is less painful. That could be the magic number.

I hear you, I just don't see the Rangers doing anything that starts with a 7, be it for 6 or 7 years. I happen to agree with Gorton on that approach 100%. 6 years 39 mill, I can see that. If that isn't enough for Kreider I think he gets dealt tomorrow.

Going 6 years doesn't make me say okay for one less year here's 7.2 per, no way IMO.

whoopee!! Another pick we’ll see 5 years from now and another B prospect that some day may be in our bottom 6 if it happens. Don’t think he’s going but if he does it will be a sucky day in rangerland, locker room upset, playoff shot out the window, but chuck will be happy for another lottery pick.

Let's see what happens. Things can change quickly, and Kreider could wake up tomorrow and realize he doesn't need to hold the Rangers up for over 7 mill per. Maybe he will realize taking 39 mill or so over 6 years is good enough to stay in NY, and also that Gorton is not going to give in. I say good for Gorton because Kreider is not worth over 7 mill per. Same strategy he used with Panarin who took a little less to be a Ranger.

As for the return if he is dealt, if it is a B prospect I'll be pissed. It absolutely has so be an A prospect and a 1st I think. A projected top 6 forward for sure.

Lastly, as for the playoffs, we have a 30% chance to get in. Even if we do get in we'll most likely play Boston. I do not think it is the right move to hold Kreider for a 30% chance to maybe get in and almost for sure lose in round 1.

Next year and beyond will be a different story for this team as our window starts to open again.

If it's just a 1st and one prospect, then it better be one of Kaut, Bowers or Timmins. Jost is a decent roster player but doesn't really move the needle that much paired with just a 1st. I'd think they should get 3 assets in any deal for the top rental. 1st, top 3 prospect and either 3-4th round pick or depth NHL guy.
