Isn't Mo Williams essentially an expiring contract? Will Barton as well?

Wouldn't be enough to trade for Hawes, but Mo has a player option. Sure, he said he's going to use it, but that's a lot different than having a guy on an unguaranteed deal. Mo breaks his leg tomorrow, he's probably not opting out.

So not having any future picks to use and no expiring contracts to trade and 15 players on your roster with no flexibility is perhaps not the best place to have your team if you are a GM. Just a suggestion...

Agreed to an extent, but again, you go to the offseason....Mo and Wright likely don't sign here without the 2nd year, so option seems either non-expiring or not having them. Wright has been a big disappointment, but was still looked at by just about everyone here as a solid signing at the time. Lope has an extra year. Only other option of having an expiring player would be Robinson and Leonard's options not being picked up.

Yep. That's something a team's GM should think about.

So, most changes we will be able to make are the in-house kind. Begin with overhauling the weak ass D.

12 minutes left. This is about when that Gerald Wallace to POR deal came about a few years ago.

If they go as is, it seems more likely that they will play closer to the recent level than return to the earlier level of play. So guess we should reset expectations to being happy to make the playoffs? What a downer. If they end up with the #5-8 seed with no HCA and lose in the 1st round, does that really incline LA to stay? That is still a long way from contending status.

RR7 - Please stop. Fan's here cant comprehend all those details/facts/logic!

We are also wasting some of his most productive years with this middling roster of jump shooters.

I guess the team is happy with that.

It seemed like a legitimate query. If not, please point out where it was so off base. If a team has no draft picks, no cap space, no ending contracts......that doesn't seem a very flexible place to be to improve the roster on an ongoing basis. It seems like you would be somewhat stuck. That also is detail/fact/logic.

Fact - Our roster/team has improved greatly. Feel free to compare last years record to this season. Are we not the most improved team?

Going into this past offseason, though, what moves do you want him making that slightly opens up that flexibility? Again, making the assumption Wright and Mo are only coming with a 2nd year available to them? Do you pass on them? Do you pass on options to Robinson who you just traded for, and Leonard?

Fropez has made the team much better. But that doesn't mean those other things don't apply. Are we a contender? Or is the goal just to make the playoffs and likely lose in the 1st round without HCA? We are not 'mediocre' which is basketball purgatory. Not bad enough to get a good pick and very likely not good enough to make any type of run in the playoffs. Our record has improved but outside of Lopez, our roster isn't that much better. Fropez has allowed players to excel which is great but take away him and the bench is still at the bottom, D is still in the bottom 1/3 and they don't get easy baskets or force turnovers. Details/facts/logic.

And I would say based on projections, Phoenix is the most improved team. They have NOTHING and are only a few games behind us when most thought they could possibly be the worst team in the league. I hope the Blazers figure it out and get right back to battling for the #2 spot but that seems unlikely.

I mean in the off season just to see what his value is.
Well in the off-season everybody on the roster should be available for the right price.
But of course you want Wes on the block...

I wouldn't have gone shopping so much at the Rack. I'd rather have one impact player than a bunch of also-rans for cheap. Hindsight is 20/20 but I'll be as forthright as possible and it's up to others to accept that.

Robinson: Would have extended. For right or wrong, he has a great motor and talent in there somewhere, it's just a matter of finding it. He hasn't turned out very good but just being honest.
Williams: Liked his contract which he will likely opt out of.

Leonard: Heck no. Would not have picked up the extra year. It's a BBIQ/Heart issue. I have the same 'heart' issue with Nic and never would have paid him the money he is currently getting.
Wright: Nice piece but if he wasn't willing to do a 1-year like Hickson, wouldn't have signed him.

Which team wins

Ronnie Price, Barton, Babbitt, Claver and Leonard

Vs.

Mo, CJ, Wright, Robinson, Freeland

A year ago, all that Olshey did was Giorgos Printezis, cash, and imaginary trade exception space for Eric Maynor. He waived Ronnie Price to make room.

If he again does nothing, he will start to rival Pritchard as a Midseason Trade Deadline do-nothing GM.

Wait a minute... so we have a RLEC right now? Learn the game then post. ;)

Did someone say that? However, the goal is to be a contender is it not?

:matrix:
And it was only weeks ago when people were called crazy for NOT thinking we're a contender...
