Hey Chuck, long time no talk. I agree with you that Girardi is playing well and the guy is a warrior, the kind of guy you want in playoff wars. But Yandle's skill set is sooooo hard to find. I would rather have Yandle locked up than Girardi at this point and I have always felt Girardi was super impt to this teams blue line. They can't pay all their Dmen big deals, to me Girardi is the odd man out especially if they get Eric Staal who will want to play with his brother.

Yandle is a difference maker on O and I want to see what he can bring in a playoff run now that he is used to playing this system
 
To me it isn't LD Yandle or RD Girardi. It has always been LD Yandle or LD Staal. Staal is the guy I move for Yandle not Girardi. To me Girardi is the better player and a R shot as well.

Either way it kind of doesn't matter because the Rangers won't move either IMO. I just don't see it. Plus they would also have to agree to a deal.

IF they get Eric Staal I agree that changes the dynamic, because having Marc would be the key to keeping Eric, but I don't see either of those dmen being dealt. I do see Yandle moving on after this season if they do keep him past Monday.
 
why not? he would be a great third line guy. Hayes can be moved to the fourth line.
 
I'd like them to get Staal as that would be a big time boost but that would most likely prevent any 4th line upgrade in someone like Purcell. Which would certainly be ok. A loophole for Nash on LTIR giving them cap room and also letting him heal until April is a good scenario. And there's also still the possibility of Buchnevich.

Anyway...I agree with you sort of. We should either really go in to win it and add a guy like Staal (and have the Canes keep some cap money so we can add a 4th line PK guy also) OR we should deal off Yandle for the future and maybe add a small low cost player.

It makes no sense to me if we half a** it. We are not beating the Caps and winning the cup with mid range add that would cost any real assets for the future. In that case I would say deal Yandle for a good future payback, and maybe deal a much lesser asset for a small bottom 6 and go from there.

If we plan to just add a medium type guy than we should deal Yandle and not bother. If we are truly going for a cup we need a big add like Staal, not some medium add that won't really change things. So to keep Yandle in that situation doesn't make sense to me.

Either go really in OR deal Yandle and focus on building up the system this season for a retooling to make a run again next season.
 
No they to keep Yandle to go along with Staal if their aim is to win. He's not going anywhere anyway.

Gorton should not give up any picks. He should only acquire them.

I'm telling you, we are gearing up to add a forward and make another run at it. The question is will the forward be a big ticket item like Staal (Nash on LTIR until the playoffs) OR will the forward be a bottom 6 gritty 15-17 goal PK guy.

Either way I think we will be adding a forward and taking another shot.

I say get it done. This is the player that can put them over the top. I bet the price isn't crazy high either, despite what those rumors say. He is a rental, and has a NTC, so the Canes' options are limited. I bet the price would be something good, but not over the top or a bunch of prospects/kids.

Put Nash on LTIR, deal for Staal and maybe Riley Nash with him (Canes keep some of Staal's remaining salary), make another run at a cup.

Staal is the player. We add a guy like that and we can play with any team. Gives us a legit shot, and that's all you can ask for.
 
I've been telling you this about Yandle for the last two months, that short of being in playoff position he was not getting dealt, healthy McDonagh or not. He's like having another top 6 forward on the ice, despite some boneheaded passes now and then.
Now give Carolina Hayes, next years 1st and have them eat half the salary for the 'real' Staal.
 
Not really, you need to clear another 3m if the Nash ltir dosen't happen. Maybe they get away with no 1st but then it's at least a 2nd and top 5 prospect.
 
So basically, the morons are going to lose Yandle for nothing and then probably piss more of their future away and ultimately win nothing. That's why this team has 1 cup in the last 74 years.
 
John Shannon tweets that Eric Staal hasn't been asked to waive his no-trade clause and that he suspects Ron Francis will only go to Staal if he gets a deal that he likes. (Shannon)

I'll add, I simply think it is common sense.

If you are choosing to keep Yandle knowing he walks this summer for nothing, then you have to really go in for it. Otherwise if the plan is to half a** it and maybe just add some fringe player upfront why keep Yandle? The two don't connect logically IMO.

Either:

1. You keep Yandle and really go in for it again and look to add a bigger piece upfront.
OR
2. You deal Yandle for picks/prospects, maybe add a fringe vet dman, and maybe add a fringe forward so you are not totally punting on this season.

Going down the middle in either scenario is the total wrong way to go.

So with that said, if they are keeping Yandle, which it appears they are, then really go in. Go get Staal and maybe even a 4th line PK guy. If you don't want to really do that then deal Yandle and look for a vet dman and fringe forward and play it out that way, looking to reload this summer for another run next season.

But PLEASE do not half a** it and go down the middle, that would be the worst option of all. Either really in or not.
 
I would offer Hayes or Lindberg, a 2nd or 3rd round pick (no 1st rounder), and a middle prospect (no way a top guy like Buch or Skjei).

To me that is more than enough for Staal. And maybe you can get them to throw in a Nash or someone like that as well. And if given my choice I would deal Lindberg over Hayes, but could go either way. Hayes may be the better add for us given his RFA status this summer. Then let Lindberg play on the 3rd line with Stalberg and maybe Kreider.
 
Versteeg is also a guy they could look at for a cheaper return. He is a R shot and basically a 15 goal 40 point guy. He'd be a good add for the 3rd line.


Versteeg, 29, has a cap hit of $2.2 million, is a right hand shot and has won two Stanley Cups with Chicago.

He has 11 goals and 22 assists this season for Carolina.

Of course you would. You live giving away picks and young players for old rentals which never wins this team jack shit.
 
I saw a crazy rumor that they were looking to get both Staals and deal Nash, Kreider and Girardi with Carolina picking up some salary. I just don't see them dealing CK and Girardi certainly wouldn't waive to leave NY. Why Carolina would want that contract anyway i don't know.

Your counter will be deal Yandle, awesome I respect your opinion on that, but the Rangers feel differently. IF you keep Yandle knowing he walks this summer, you have to use logic here and say it makes zero sense to keep him and not really go in for it.

And BTW...I make that deal for Staal every day of the week. No 1st and no top prospect. Jesus Christ man, later 2nd or 3rd round picks are not gold.
 
Most people know Girardi is a top level dman who plays against top level competition every single game. Just this board doesn't, so yeah there's that as well...LOL.

And BTW...NO SHOT the Rangers rip apart their roster in season and make a deal like that...NO SHOT.
 
If you were our GM, it would be like the late 90's where the roster was full of old farts and the payroll was over 80 million.
