So once trade season is upon us my favorite deal is still CJ and Ariza for Richardson, Harris and pick 21 and the pick wouldn't be a deal breaker.

However recently I've been thinking about two deals that would make us very good if the Sixers weren't amenable or our front office didn't like that deal.

The first trade is contingent on a very unpredictable draft but if Toppin drops out of the top 4 I think he could be had for the 16th pick, 46th pick, and Zach. Toppin would be a huge upgrade for us over Zach but he might have less upside than the picks and Zach do but we don't need upside and I think Toppin would contribute more right now than Zach and the picks combined. That makes sense to a team with a roster like Cleveland who just needs talent in the form of multiple players to go with their young guards. Due to position of need the Cavs might want Little instead of Zach but I would do that too. In fact I would trade Zach, Nas and #16 for Toppin because I think he would fill an immediate need we have at starting PF and make us better right now.

Then the other trade I would try to make would be CJ and future draft picks for Middleton. If we had to throw in Ariza and take back Bledsoe then I'd do that too since they have been rumored to be eager to get rid of Bledsoe.

However that works out we have a rotation of Dame, Gary, Middleton, Toppin, Nurk, Bledsoe or Ariza, Hoodie and whatever we would then get with the MLE based on position of need (not to mention if we can get Wenyen and/or Melo back on the non-bird exception).

CJ + Mario for
Hield, Bjelica, Joseph, Giles

yes, I am a Blazers fan. It's 1-sided, but the Kings get what most consider to be the best player in the trade.

Want to know how poorly fans around the league think of our players?

BR floated a trade proposal: CJ+Collins+#16 for Thompson. Wow. They also suggested we could move up to 7th in the draft by giving up CJ and the 16th pick AND taking on Blake Griffin's albatross contract.

You think BR is “people around the league”?

Which Thompson? Also: Bleacher Report is not "around the league". It's "around people who watch the league from their sofas, eating Cheetos".

Anyone that suggests Portland would consider trading CJ is the opposite of an insider.

If Klay hadn't tore his ACL i wouldn't believe that is nearly enough to get him.

The other one is indeed very bad.

It would be more accurate, but it’s your post. Do what you want. I certainly wouldn’t take anything BR says as a gauge of what GMs might do.

I take the great majority of sports stories on the internet as nothing more than the starting point for conversation.

To be fair, I don't think the value of either of these trades are that far off. There is no way that Olshey would accept either deal, but that doesn't mean they are not at least in the right ball-park.

I don't think I'd do either one as constructed. I would strongly consider CJ + 16 (OR Collins) for Klay

I'd also be willing to take Blake's contract if it were expiring - but having 2 years left on the contract is a bit much.

Wow I'd trade CJ Collins and the 16th for Klay, that's a great deal for us.

ACL are not a big deal to come back 100% from. If it was meniscus damage or Achilles tear I'd think differently.

I dont see any way GS breaks up the splash bros. Maybe if Curry tears something at the start of the season and they are destined for lottery again while paying luxury tax.... something like that would have to happen first.

even if cap is lowered, teams are in favor of a artificial tax line more in line with last seasons projections for 20/21.
As cap expert Albert Nahmad points out (via Twitter), there are a number of other ways the NBA and NBPA could temporarily tweak the luxury tax rules for the 2020/21 season to lessen the risk of a widespread spending freeze. Besides artificially increasing the tax threshold, the two sides could explore reducing taxpayer penalties or waiving the more punitive repeater tax penalties altogether.

One of my Uber riders yesterday suggested that the NBA should get the PA to agree to let the league open up additional revenue streams to be counted outside the BRI after the pandemic if they're willing to keep operating during the pandemic without reducing the cap. Like opening up arenas for attendance during road games, or increasing the amount of advertising on uniforms. Something to make the (admittedly billionaire) owners whole if they're willing to take the losses up front.

Ariza, Trent and a re-signed Whiteside (for 1 year), along with a couple of 1st rounders to Detroit for Griffen

Trade exception PTD has for $7.5 million to Detroit for Rose

Re-Sign Melo and Sign Noel

There's my prediction for the upcoming free agent season. Detroit's going to be looking for ways to dump salary to sign VanVleet, Wood and probably one more starter. This loans them Whiteside for a year, allows them to dump Ariza's contract and Rose's contract, and keep Trent to start at the 2. We won't be able to keep Trent due to the salary he's going to demand next year. We'll see what happens.

That’s a bad trade. That’s all I am gonna say

Also, the CBA will not allow players to be S&T with 1yr contracts. So the proposal is not feasible as laid out.
Technically true, but you can do a 3 year deal, only the 1st season has to be guaranteed.

CJ for Jrue Holiday. Obviously some combination of players not sure who has more value. Holiday gives you instant defense not an explosive offense like CJ but solid. We need that toughness

I haven't read the article but Gordon Hayward is one person... I assume it's Aaron Gordon and Gordon Hayward

yeah Lowe thinks Hayward would fit in Portland and that they have room to make a deal, whatever that means.

There are smaller moves that could help save some money. Vincent Poirier is almost certainly getting dumped in a trade. He isn't playing for this team next season.

We have a TPE to absorb Poirier. I’ve always liked him. Good rebounder. Protects the rim, sets good screens, solid foul shooter, can play pick and roll, and was a solid playmaker in Europe as well.

Would be a solid, cheap backup for Nurk.
